Hello I’ve come to leave sloppy unfinished scraps from my kurotsukki ATLA au
- -
Republic City Police Station
Akaashi Keiji - Earthbender / Metalbender - Chief
Bokuto Koutarou - Nonbender - Deputy Chief
Kuroo Tetsurou - Firebender - Inspector
Northern Water Tribe
Tsukishima Kei - Waterbender / Bloodbender
- -
Boring. Boring. Boring.
“I’m pretty sure Akaashi’s successfully managed to tap into the confines of time and space because I’m pretty sure an hour’s passed and the clock’s only moved five minutes,” Tetsurou mutters to nobody in particular, though partially Bokuto since he’s the only person within hearing range. “Why am I even here? This is a meeting for the big guys, not inspectors.”
“Keiji’s rounding up some volunteers to help protect our escort during the mission at the end, the more the merrier.” Bokuto rebukes, obviously and obliviously entranced by Akaashi’s current speech about the increase in purse snatching within the West District. He sighs in a way so achingly lovestruck it makes Tetsurou roll his eyes to the clock that hasn’t moved an inch since he last looked at it.
Twenty minutes later - an actual twenty minutes, hence the equivalent of days in Tetsurou’s book - the clock’s ten minutes away from midnight and Tetsurou’s seconds away from ditching the entire meeting for a good couple years of sleep.
The firm sound of Akaashi slamming his palms on the table jolts him back to reality.
The sound isn’t loud enough to be considered alarming, but it’s with a slight edge of irritation that tells Tetsurou that yes the police’s commander-in-chief just saw him dozing off. Oops.
“As some of you may have heard, we’ll be needing volunteers to guard and escort a representative from the Northern Water Tribe. Though he and his higher-ups assure me that he’s capable of defending himself, his participation in future missions is vital in ensuring the safety of the downtown area of Republic City.”
“If he’s so ‘special’ why call for volunteers instead of conscripting the best of us? Sounds like the arrival of this little water tribe prince didn’t catch the finance department’s eye despite being ‘oh so vital’, huh.” Tetsurou hears Bokuto shush him and sighs, not intending for anyone to hear the soft remark but thankful that at least Akaashi didn’t.
When he turns his attention back to Akashi, he notices a new figure stepping in from behind one of the entrance curtains. Tetsurou has to croon his neck a little to get a clearer view.
- -
[Tsukki’s the waterbender (big surprise) and Kuroo’s lovestruck like 0.2 seconds in]
- -
“So, would anybody be willing to volunteer?”
Before Bokuto can get past a second of his delighted squeal of approval that entailed his immediate participation in anything and everything Akaashi was involved in, Tetsurou beat him to it.
Rather loudly, in fact.
“I-I volunteer as an escort!”
It doesn’t matter that his chair screeched and tipped over with the speed at which he stood up. It doesn't matter that he tripped over his words a little bit like some lovesick little kid. It doesn’t matter that he's probably blushing with half of his known peers staring straight at him standing stiff and upright at a meeting table.
What matters is the way the waterbender’s eyes seem to widen that little bit before his expression changes, golden eyebrows moving down like moon crescents that pulled tides in Tetsurou’s stomach.
(Even if it was to furrow into a confused frown, but that was beside the point.)
Before the situation (and Tetsurou’s dignity) can sink any further, Akaashi clears his throat - easily snapping attention back to him - and nods in acknowledgement.
“All right, Inspector Tetsurou will be his primary bodyguard, with Captain Bokuto and I as secondaries. Stay behind so that I may inform you of your tasks. Meeting dismissed.”
- -
As Tetsurou initially expected, the waterbender’s arrival was requested in aid of the recent so-called “Turf Wars” that were surging within the downtown area between a couple of local gangs and an unnamed rising power that’d recently gained a lot of attention.
As a inspector in the station, Tetsurou’s been exposed to several incidents involving the gang as of late, everyone from petty purse-snatching thievery to full-on bloody and beaten bodies that were barely clinging onto consciousness by the time they got to them.
“Judging by the evidence found on and around some of the incidents - burn marks, dirtied scrapes, and melting ice shards impaled into nearby objects - we can see that this is definitely a group of benders that specialize in more than one element.” Akaashi sighs, spreading out a dozen-or-so photos of the depicted scenes on the table below him. “Certainly the type of unison this city hoped to achieve, but definitely not under these circumstances.”
“That sounds horrible and all, but what’s he gotta do with all of this?” Bokuto pops in, managing to draw an offended scowl from the guest within the first three seconds of referring to him.
“My name is Tsukishima Kei and I’ve come forth as a result of the attention more recent events have caught in my tribe.” He crosses his arms, moving his cloak in such a way that revealed a slim waist that an arm - Tetsurou's arm - would’ve slipped perfectly around. “If you’ve bothered to pay attention to the news lately, you’ll know that one of the recent victims of these crimes was a member of the Northern Water Tribe’s local embassy. The locals weren't too happy about it, and when a call of support came I was chosen to help.”
Tetsurou whistles, relishing in how the action got those amber eyes to snap in attention to him. “Sounds like you’ve got quite a name back in your hometown, pretty boy.”
- -
"You know, I read the case files on the incident with the man from the embassy. The one that made you convince your superiors to send you over here as a ‘representative.’”
Kei makes no move to face him.
“And? You’re an inspector. This is your case. I don’t see any reason for you to not be reading a dead man’s profile.”
How cold. Tetsurou rubs the back of his neck. God, he’s never been good at this sort of thing.
“Listen, I know hearing it from me of all people probably won’t change anything but . . . I’m sorry about what happened to him.”
Kei’s silent.
“I’m just one guy, but I’ll do my best to try and find out who’s behind all this. With your help and a couple gallons of coffee I’m sure we’ll crack this case right open. Everything’s gonna be fine.”
For a moment, Kei makes no move to reply. Tetsurou opens his mouth to speak up when the waterbender stands up from his seat, chair legs screeching against the floor. Kei doesn’t look at him when he turns to leave.
“Tell me that when you find the fucker that killed my brother.”
There’s a short breeze when Kei glides past him, and another when the door slams behind him.
- -
(backstory: kuroo’s mom died bc of a local firebender loansharks who had his dad in debt and his dad ended up leaving him at an orphanage bc he couldn’t support him any longer and didn’t want kuroo in danger)
- -
“You’ve been burned.”
“Yes, among other things.” Kei sighs, the muscles of his cheek stinging at the movement. “You can worry about that later, Kuroo, we need to get out of here as soon as possi—“
He stops when he feels Tetsurou’s palm reach out and cup the side of his face, just below the fresh burn marks that’d been singed onto his skin during the attack. Tetsurou’s making a face now, and the intensity of it has the waterbender’s stomach churning into knots despite the state of exhaustion they’re both in.
“You’ve been burned.”
His thumb’s stroking the skin of his cheek now, and Kei can’t help the slight tremble in his words when he replies. Tetsurou’s voice was soft, but that didn’t stop it from making his knees want to buckle down and his head want to roll and float off of his shoulders despite the situation.
“It was an ambush, we managed to fight them off for a while but I got a bit careless and…” He doesn’t bother to finish. “Akaashi stopped them before anything serious could happen, so I should consider myself lucky for getting out with just a burn.”
The hand on his cheek freezes.
“Just a burn?” Kuroo’s hand moves down to his shoulder, the other one coming up to grip just as tightly. He isn’t shouting, but what his voice lacks in volume it makes up for with conviction. “You act like you have no idea how close you were to dying, Kei. These goons weren’t given the order to bring you back alive, and with your bloodbending they sure as hell weren’t planning on kicking you around a bit beforehand.”
“I . . .” Kei doesn’t really know what to say at this point. “I apologize. I’ll be more careful next time.”
thank you!! thank you for writing that beautiful fanfic for gatsby and nick!! was that your first one or do you have others hidden around? and would you maybe consider writing another? ;w;
!! ! !!! ! ! !
I’m really happy that you enjoyed my fic!! It’s actually the first natsby fic I’ve written - at least so far, anyway o3o)b
I only got into it recently since I was more passionate about the book itself until my friends starting filling my head with natsby headcanons. One of whom is Mi who I wrote the fic for! It’s her AU so if you want more of the mafia stuff you poke her @small-hurts !!
ahhh but if you want something from me I’m not really sure. I’d be up for writing more - I’m always open to prompt suggestions of any kind, but I might not always take them!!
(I’ve actually gotten a couple of prompts in general but I've been rly busy w/ school and health the past two years “orz)
psst akaashi's name is keiji not seiji
ahh I corrected it just now ;w; smh @ myself
indirect confession (kurotsuki)
Summary: It’s at a karaoke bar during a normal visit to Tokyo when Yamaguchi decides to get the rest of the group filled in on what’s bloomed in Sendai.
Notes: IB exams are almost done and I have a week until my next one so here’s some kurotsuki. This is unproofread and I keep jumping between first and last names accidentally, but note that everyone here is referred to by their first names!!
Tetsurou found it a bit odd that Tadashi’s gaze on Kei’s backside seemed firmer than usual as the blond left the room to go buy something nearby. But the suspicion becomes a bit more anticipatory when Tadashi’s eyes immediately snap to him as soon as the door’s clicked closed.
“Tsukki’s got a total crush on you, you know.”
The sound of Koutarou spitting out his drink behind him seemed like a perfect description of how he felt hearing that.
don't wanna waste my love (Gatsby/Nick)
Summary: Daisy’s left Gatsby for Tom, and Nick is present amongst the wreckage. Not-so-obvious mafia au.
Notes: For @small-hurts mafia au that I’m super hyped for!! This is a scene which may or may not be in the au, depending on Mi’s creative choices ^3^)7
smoking sunsets (us/punk!uk aesthetic)
Arthur Kirkland was going to be the death of him.
And he’ll let him be.
Because if Arthur’s addiction was the rush of nicotine through his withering veins, then Alfred’s addiction was undoubtedly, unavoidably, Arthur.

ew, old writing
put a little sunshine in your life (kurotsuki)
Summary: It’s a boring day at the flower shop when Kei is confronted with a very interesting new customer.
Notes: Found this in my drafts and decided to finish it up! This is a weird mesh of old-ish writing and clunky out-of-practice writing but ayyyy why not.
As an unexpected green thumb and the only one amongst his coworkers without a knowledge of floriography, Kei had to deal with a multitude of people every day.
From distraught lovers seeking superficial reconciliation in the form of a satisfactorily-priced bouquet, wannabe womanizers picking out roses to hand out to select passerby, to middle-aged mothers who bicker on about certain flowers not being “red” enough for their living room centerpieces.
You know, the works.
“H-Hello can I buy some f—oh shit!”
And today, he’ll be dealing with a rather tall young man (with what seemed to be an awful bedhead) who’d seemed to miss the small step by the doorway in favor of falling flat on his face.
emotional health be like
_(:3 」∠)_
I wanted to say I read your almond milk ficlet and it was so cute!! And to thank you for making Kuroo sufficiently awkward~
ahhh I’m glad you liked it!! The world can never get enough of Kuroo being awkward af when he’s crushing on Tsukki tbh =w=)b
