while I absolutely love people comparing Simon and Grace to Laika and Felicette I feel like a lot of people have them swapped (I've mostly seen Simon-Laika and Grace-Felicette)

Laika was purposefully sent on a one way mission. They knew her ship didnt have the technology to go into orbit and come back safely.

They knowingly sent her to her death for the sake of science, there was no hope or intention of any kind of return

Felicette, on the other hand, survived her trip and she was the very first cat to ever do so. However, despite her survival they still ended up euthanizing her for the sake of research. She made it out, she did everything they had asked her to do, and they still couldn't let her live
