This paper explores the foundational cultural and spiritual constructions of the Virgin Mary by comparing Giovanni Ballini's Madonna of the Meadow. A 15th-century Renaissance Venice Painting, and Flemish Jan Van Eyck's 15th-century painting of the Madonna holding Christ at church.
