tell me more about how steven universe has facade (2005) in its writing im intrigued

facade (which, for anyone who hasn't played it, is about a person walking in on an argument between two married friends and their attempts to mediate their quite broken relationship during a dinner with them) is noted as something that influenced the showrunner in a few interviews and I definitely think you could argue picks at similar things, specifically in how a lot of the drama of steven universe is structured around its main character having to get in between shitty and not necessarily solvable interpersonal arguments between people. it's also often a bit voyeuristic (for lack of a better term) in a similar way; one of SU's most oft criticized choices (and one which I personally like a lot) is that the show never breaks from steven's perspective, and as a result of that the show is peppered with scenes of him overhearing weighty private conversations between the adults around him, not unlike how a lot of facade plays out:

i think you could say one of the main artistic goals of the show is capturing the feeling of becoming cognizant of how your parents are also real people who are just as vindictive and scared and messy as you are and the way that can kind of mess with you; it's, imo, gesturing at similar things facade is going for but for the specific perspective of young teenagers

Also, i like how this movie REALLY felt like an emotional and logical continuation of the original series, the external world is saved now, but how about the heroes internal turmoils? Aangs personal struggles, not to mention the capacity to be a selfish person was touched upon in the show proper, but his arc culminated in the heroes calling where his main challenge is whether he can *do* something. The closure with his people was there implicitly, but not the main focus.

The scene where the air nomad kids were running in the meadow as Aang is grief stricken, betrayed and going at Taga made me tear up, I did not expect a product from atla to move me but here we are. We never got to see Aang be *not* the objective moral compass of the show. Its so striking that hes allowed to make (understandable) short sighted decisions, the tension was there, it worked really well!

I also liked how the show delved into how bending is a *cultural* and *spiritual* element of the the avatar universe. One of my most petty gripes with LoK was how much it proportionally showcased bending as like, solely a congenital martial art, that was supposed to be commentary on social class (which fell flat because, yknow social class is socially experienced not a physicality thing). I mean, it was a bit obvious where the plot was going , it was giving me Bismuth from SU vibes, reincarnation and getting bubbled and all.

Im not really sure if Aang has anymore stories to tell atp, because from the end it seems like it transitions smoothly to Korras story. Unless they cover Tophs parents involvement in the war? I really like how they included that in the live action, it fits in quite nicely into the story.
