gideon and fabian prewett go into the ground that day

molly, the last remaining prewett, feels like she’s drowning

(and although she is now a weasley, she will always be a prewett)

arthur’s hand in hers reminds her that she is not alone (far from it, in fact), but it does not ease the pain, the grief of losing all that was left of her family in one fell swoop

there is a stream of endless platitudes and consolations, so repetitive and meaningless that they blend into one another

(but she sees the way he holds her hand reverently, and the way she looks up at him reproachfully, her eyes betraying her amusement and embarrassment, and how he smiles and she smiles back and molly may as well not be there because they are so in love and damn the war)

‘march,’ she eventually answers and the anxiety in lily’s face melts away

then molly casts her eyes downwards and smiles

‘august,’ she answers, glowing like only a woman who is creating life can

lily’s hand skims across her stomach, the instinctual action of a woman whose belly is full of baby

(and molly would know, she has patted her own belly too many times to count)

‘well, i guess our children will be going to hogwarts together, then,’ molly muses aloud

‘maybe they’ll be best friends,’ lily smirks

and, for a moment, molly feels lighter because it is so reassuring to talk about the future in this way, to think about her children growing up in a world where they’re safe and happy and blood doesn’t matter and they can be whatever they choose to be

‘potter and weasley,’ james is staring dreamily at the sky before dropping his gaze back down and grinning widely

‘hogwarts won’t know what hit it.’

she never sees them again

her hands shake when she reads about them in the daily prophet

and she cries when she thinks about how they were bright and brave and so young

(too young and so in love)

(and now gone too soon)

she never forgets, but the memory does fade, the memory of meeting a vivacious couple on one of the worst days of her life and how they gave her hope for a future when the word future felt like taboo

and it doesn’t happen the way any of them had predicted, but it happens

because ron writes home in september 1991, talking about how he made friends with harry potter and how he stuffed himself silly on the hogwarts express because harry was generous and cool and being friends with him was easy and natural

so she thinks of lily and how she rubbed her belly, green eyes alight with hope

and she thinks of james and his cheeky grin and what he said that day

‘potter and weasley. hogwarts won’t know what hit it.’

Truth or dare

Alice fumbled around in her wardrobe desperately trying to find a cute dress to wear. Finally she pulled out a tight fitting black dress and put it on. She did her hair because she already had done her makeup and went downstairs, slipped on her shoes and called out,”dad I’m ready” neville came out of the living room,”Alice..” he said looking at her right dress. “Nope! I am not changing!” Alice told him sternly. “Then I am not driving you!” Neville told her. Alice gave in and hugged back up stairs. Instead she decided to put on a pair of ripped black high waisted jeans , a bralette and a mesh/see through top over the top. She walked downstairs and even though neville wasn’t impressed he didn’t say anything. When Alice got to the car she found that frank was already waiting for her in there .

They drove to James’ house where neville dropped them off and said goodbye. Even though this was a wotters and co only party all the girls had still dressed up because why not.

When Alice and frank walked in they went straight to the living room where everyone else was. ,”is Reece here yet?” Roxanne asked Alice. “I don’t know I only just got here” alice told her. The two of them went into the kitchen to get a drink when Reece walked in through the door and straight into the kitchen. “Hey rox!” He said kissing her from behind. “I’m going to find James” Alice said as Reece and Roxanne started making out.

Alice walked into the living room and couldn’t see James anywhere , or any of the boys. So she stepped outside into the garden and walked to the tree house. She could already hear the noise before she reached it.”James are you up there?” She yelled.

Just then James’ head popped out from the tree house and looked down to see Alice , his curls getting in the way. “Hey , you want to come up?” He called down.

“Yeah!” Alice replied.

“What’s the secret password?” James asked

“Socks” alice replied

James pressed a button to open the door and Alice walked in and climbed up the stairs.

When she got up there she saw all the boys , a lot were shirtless but they were all downing shots . “Why aren’t you inside?” Alice asked James. “We were drinking before but we’re finished now” he told her. Then everyone came out of the tree house and back to the party.

“Who’s up for a game of truth or dare?!” Dominique yelled. Everyone cheered and they all sat in a circle. Going clockwise it started with Dominique then victorie then teddy then James then Alice then frank then Liam then Reece then Roxanne then Fred then Elsie then Albus then Scorpius then Maggie then Lysander then Lorcan then hugo then rose then lily then Louis then back to Dominique.

“Okay I’m starting!” Dominique said quite drunk already, most people had had at least one drink so far. “Ummm , torie!” Said Dominique “truth or dare” victorie thought for a secound ,”dare” she said bravely. “I dare you to…..wear my flats for the rest of the night!” Dominique said knowing fully well victorie loved to wear her heels. Torie sighed and swapped shoes with dom. “okay now it’s my go!” Victorie said,” Fred! Truth or dare”

“Truth” fred said.

“Will you ever get a tattoo?” Victorie asked

“Probably yeah” Fred said “okay, James truth or dare!”

“Dare!” James said.

“Okay..lets see…let Alice go through your phone” fred said smirking.

James looked quite embarrassed as he unlocked his phone and handed it to Alice.

Alice took his phone, feeling pretty bad , and went through it. She started of course with the pictures. James’ face went red when he saw what she was going through. A lot of the pictures were of him and his dog, there were a lot of him and his friends clearly drunk doing stupid things which made Alice laugh but then as she went deeper she found more and more pictures of herself. They were pictures James took or pictures she took of herself as a joke that she thought James had deleted but clearly hadn’t. After that it was james’ turn to dare someone. “Alice, truth or dare” he said.

“Truth” alice replied.

“Do you have a crush on anyone right now?” James asked smirking

“I do actually “ Alice replied “ okay my turn! Reese, truth or dare?”

Reese thought about it before saying ,” dare”

“Okay Reese, I dare you to kiss the cheek of the person you think is the hottest” Alice said smirking and looking at Roxanne.

Roxanne avoided eye contact as Reese stood up and made his way across the circle. He perched down beside Roxanne and placed his lips against her cheek. Roxanne felt all the blood rush to her cheeks as the blush spread across her face. When Reese moved away the boys applauded as he sat back down.

“Okay so it’s my go, Scorpius truth or dare?” Reese said

“Dare” Scorpius said feeling brave.

“Hmm, kiss your boyfriend “ Reese said

Everyone smirked but James just looked confused ,” How is he supposed to kiss his boyfriend if he’s not here ?” James asked.

Everyone smiled at James and shook their heads . Scorpius looked nervous as he looked to his left at Albus . Then he cupped his face in his hands and kissed him.

It took James a few seconds to realise what was going on whilst everyone clapped . But when he did he looked shocked ,” I’m sorry , what the hell?” He said

Scorpius and Albus broke apart,” Scorpius is my boyfriend “ Albus said painly.

“Since when were you gay?” James asked

“Like the whole of my life? I don’t know really” Albus replied.

“Okay good for you, how long have you been with Scorpius?”james asked

“A month now “ Albus replied

“Okay my turn!” Scorpius interrupted “Teddy truth or dare?”

“Dare!” Teddy replied

“Okay you have to go the rest of the game without touching it looking at victorie!”

“That’s not fair but challenge accepted! Okay my go! James truth or dare ?”

“Dare!” James replied

“Okay I dare you to tell us all who you have a crush on” Teddy said smirking

“And what if I don’t have a crush on anyone ?” James replied

“Oh I know you do , I read your letter in your room”Teddy said still smirking

“Okay fine, I have a crush on …… Alice” James said looking at the floor . Everyone clapped like they did whenever anyone did anything brave

Alice was shocked but joined in the clapping , she couldn’t belive he had just said her name.

“Okay liam, truth or dare” James said stopping the clapping

“Truth!” Liam said happily

“What’s your favourite thing or things about frank like why do you like him?”

“My favourite thing about him has to be his personality, for some reason I like how he swears a lot , also he’s obviously really good looking and cute “ as Liam said this Frank covered his face with his hands in embarrassment,” oh my god and look at him now, he’s so adorable! Also I love it when I call him cute and he gets all embarrassed! I love how he is secretive towards everyone else but me , I love how he doesn’t want to put our relationship on display and he wants to keep it to himself, I love how much he loves me and how much he tells me he loves me, I love his cute little dimples that he’s hiding right now , I love how red his face gets , I love how he’s muscular but not James type muscley because in my opinion that’s too much , I love how tall he is because I’m taller than him and he’s the perfect height for me to rest my chin on his head , I love how good his hugs are , I love how good he is at kissing , I love how close he is to his family , I love how clumsy he is , I love how he can always make me smile, I love how he always has time for me , I love how he listens to me but most of all I love how much he cares about me and about everyone around him , honestly he’s just perfect !” Liam finished ,finally taking a breath. Everyone clapped and some of the girls had tears in their eyes . Frank still had his face covered.

“That was bloody beautiful!” James said wolf whistling. Fred tried to prise franks hands away and when he eventually did he saw that frank was crying happy tears and blushing madly at the same time . Liam hurried across the circle and pulled him into a big hug and kissed his forehead before frank hid his face in his chest. Frank said something that was muffled by Liam’s jumper ,”What was that frank?” Liam asked

“Ah-ra-ra” was all they could make out .

Liam pulled franks face out of his jumper . “I love you !” Frank said still blushing and smiling . Liam kissed his lips for what seemed like a while , everyone savoured this moment because it was probably going to be the only time they saw them kiss until their wedding day.

Afterwards frank sat in Liam’s lap.

“Okay so frank truth or dare ?” Liam asked

“Umm Truth” Frank said

“How happy would you be honestly , if James hooked up with your sister ?” Liam asked

Alice went red .

“Honestly I would be very happy because it’s my twin and my best friend but I don’t want to see them kissing or anything because that’s just too gross!” Frank said laughing

“Okay now dom truth or dare”

“Dare” dom replied

“Okay , take off all your makeup” Frank said

“Fine!” Dom said getting several makeup wipes and removing her makeup

“Okay alice , truth or dare?” Dom said

“Dare!” Alice replied

“Give us a description of your crush without giving too much away “

“Okay where to begin …… he’s tall, good looking , out of my league , sporty and fit , he is loud and funny , has great hair , he’s a good listener and he’s a gentlemen. He knows what I like and what I don’t like, he knows me better than I think I know myself , he’s helpful and selfless , he puts others before him self , he’s brave and clever and I know I can always count on him “

James listened to this description and all the good things she was saying and thought to himself , it’s obviously not me

“James , truth or dare?” Alice asked

“Dare!” James replied

“Okay….. I dare you to say yes to going on a date with me” Alice said more braver than she felt .

As soon as James realised what she said he went all giddy and couldn’t look her in the eye, he was smiling and blushing . Everyone clapped. “Okay alice, I will go on a date with you” James said much cooler than he felt.

It took him a while to be able to say anything else

“Okay Reese, truth or dare”

“Dare” Reese replied

“Ask your crush out “

“Okay, roxy , do you want to go on a date with me ?” Reese asked

Roxanne was shocked ,”y-yes of course!” She stammered.

and that’s where they decided to end the game.

“Wait Alice before you go! I just wanted to tell you how beautiful you look tonight and also I wanted to say that I’m not out of your league because your ten times more pretty than I am which makes you the prettiest person alive so congratulations because you stole my title” James said making alice giggle,” and I also wanted to say that I can wait to go on a date with you and I wanted to know if maybe you would like to be my …. girlfriend “

Alice smiled “I’d love to be your girlfriend if I get you as my boyfriend”

“I’ll be the bestest boyfriend “ James said before kissing her

When they pulled away neither of them could stop smiling . Alice had to go but she waved to James and blew him a kiss which he caught and kept forever
