maybe i'm just transgender and therefore biased but something always fucking gets me about seth going by his middle name. like. he was named after his dad who left when he was young and after that there's a weight there, you know? there's this lingering presence in his name on your shoulders, even though you're not him, even though you never fucking will be, part of him is there. like a parasite. and it just makes you angry. like, this is my fucking life, and i have to carry his name through it? be labeled as his son, after he up and left and never looked back? no fucking way.
seth taking on his middle name and cutting his namesake out of his identity is something that's really fitting for the first of the foxes. take yourself back. doesn't matter who you were, it's who are you going to be? what are you gonna do? what will you call yourself? especially for somebody like seth, perpetually angry at everything and yet hanging on by the skin of his teeth because fuck this world if he lets it kill him. taking your own name and reinventing who you are is just. it's angry. it's a form of rebellion. it's the only one that some of us have. the foxes are about second chances. i think seth renaming himself was his first second chance.
