tbh i think the funniest phenomena that's been happening in the last couple years is "youtuber, having gone too deep into the research hole, has been made an investigative journalist against their will"
Shout out to the guy who wanted to do some fun & silly little reviews but uncovered an illegal gambling operation
(Review 2)
this guy started out poking fun at australian politicians and ended up investigating the firebombing of his own home, during which he uncovered connections between the same politician he was making fun of + major organized crime
JasperDasper started out just curious why everything had suddenly become about trans people and questioning some of the sources used in a book. He came out of it, 4 years later, with a 5 hour long video that connects all transphobia to less than 60 people. (I'm not joking. literally every single transphobic rhetoric and bill passed is because of these 50 or so people.)
If you wanna watch it I cannot recommend it enough; I just warn that it covers a LOT.
well. you heard the official orange county health ad.
Things are rough rn, but its pride month! I've been doing a lot of self reflection lately on my own queerness. Because for a long time, its been something I've put on the back burner, where I haven't had the space to interrogate those parts of myself.
And while I have to be careful, since I work a public facing job in a small community, that doesn't mean that I have to hide myself away. And its important that I don't. Its big and scary, but I am not alone out here. I wish I could tell my younger self how much happier we are.
I heard it was that time of year again.
close your eyes and imagine freshly roasted root vegetables perfectly seasoned and crispy as far as the eye can see

Oil changed, as of a half hour ago!! Housing tours continue! Community garden work scheduled! First professional haircut I've had in 6 months! Bike polo to play!
It is summer and I am so very glad to be alive.
Music this week (albums):
Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen
Fenian - Kneecap
Coloring Book - Chance the Rapper
Fondness etc. - Shakey Graves (I want to see him in concert again!!)
Mama's Gun - Erykah Badu
Voodoo - D'Angelo (still feeling sad about him passing last October)
Its Not Going To Be Okay - Joshua Burnside (this album was largely written after the death of one of his dear friends. Lot of grief, but its been helping me to work through grief of my own)
Books I'm reading:
They can't kill us until they kill us - Hanif Abdurraqib. Quickly turning into one of my favorite things I've read in a long time, cannot recommend enough
Martyr! - Kaveh Akbar. Halfway through atm.
Wolf Hall - Hillary Mantel. Need to buy a copy of this, because I really really like it.
To do list:
Birthday dinner!
Camping trip planning
Schedule wisdom teeth removal
Work on tree IDs
Schedule birding outing with W's boss
I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up
