My faith in humanity is restored with the knowledge that there will be a digital ticket of the West End run of TGWDLM
I need to relive the experience again and again
Genuinely feel inconsolable that Starkid’s west end run is done, truly has meant so much to me to have seen my favourite Starkid show and to have met the cast, truly life changing shit
I keep having to tell my brain that it is still a fucking amazing time to be a Starkid fan with Tombquest, The Guy Reprise proshot and miss Holloween coming up but Starkid not randomly being like an hour on the train away from me will leave a hole in my heart
Hope that at the very end of Glam and the Pentagrams we time skip, don't see Holloway or anything, and we just see Paul and Emma just stand there for five seconds and then fade to black. Cinema
Guys I watched Big Bear earlier and it was great, went into it completely blind and I’m so glad I did.
The writing is fucking great, the ending is perfect, the English lit student in me is throughly impressed.
If you guys haven’t seen it or didn’t know it was on YouTube now PLEASE GO WATCH IT, ITS SOOOO GOOD
Crazy how Paul Mathews and Heather Duke are in the same friend group
Bryce Charles character: Who's going to help me with this magic-related problem?
The Magical Kim Whalen character:
After seeing TGWDLM live on Friday I think I’ve unlocked a new level of appreciation for not just my favourite Starkid show but all Starkid shows, I feel like my third eye has opened
Got my favourite ship in my hatchetfield photocard
@m0nomercy ‘s photocard I’m so happy that I got it today at comic con
Here’s my view of the curtain call btw
OK SO THIS IS GONNA BE A INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF YAP BUT THESE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON SEEING TGWDLM LIVE
IT WAS FUCKING TRANSCENDENT.
Everyone sounded incredible I think my absolute favourite songs were La Dee da da day, what do you want Paul?, Not your seed & inevitable
It was one of my favourite experiences ever I adore Starkid
In the opening number they bring on Paul on his chair and I he looks brain dead and only begins typing once bill and Charlotte do, might be my favourite thing i hadn’t seen before that I spotted
ALSO during Paul & Emma’s meet-cute there is a moment where they get really close and are staring at each other and then they stop and turn away I FUCKING LOVE PAULKINS, WILL BE HOPPING STRAIGHT ON THE ARCHIVE WHEN I GET HOME
OH and there’s a new bit after cup of poisoned coffee. Basically Paul and Emma stay on the stage and go to find a place to hide and keeps getting around in circles. Then Emma asks Paul if he knows where they’re going and Paul says he dyslexic and that it’s very offensive to ask him that
They added in idk how to describe it but I guess a filter over certain parts like when Mr Davidson is on the phone to Carol or when Emma is asking for Hidgens to open the gate which I really liked
Theres some many things that were incredible, Ivan’s hidgens may be my favourite portrayal and my audience went fucking wild with show stopping number it was such a blast
There was some really funny Ted/ homeless man bits- when the little improvised bit before America is great again joey kept making that’s what she said last night jokes
Also at the end of la Dee da da day homeless guy said ‘hey bucket hat girl, you want a dollar’
YOU TIED UP MY HEARY FINALLY GOT SOME LOVE GUYS I WAS SO HAPPY
When I tell you I got fucking chills at inevitable I’m not fucking joking I felt like I was gonna fucking die it was so good, I will never forget that ‘if you just give us one more show stopping number with Emma front and centre’ I ADORE EMMA SO MUCH SHE IS MY FAVOURITE HATCHETFIELD CHARACTER AND THAT GODDAMN LINE GETS ME EVERY TIME
I might comeback to this post tomorrow and add more but for now I just wanna say that this show was so peak
NEW MEMORY WHEN PEEP COMES OUT AND THEY DO THE SMOKE BOMB BIT, JOEY SAID ‘I GOTTEM DAD’ TO MCNAMARA WHICH WAS CRAZY TO HEAR IN THE ACTUAL SHOW
ALSO I CANT REMEMBER IF I SAID IT ON HERE OR NOT BUT THE PAUL AND MCNAMARA SCENES WAS SOOOO FUNNY LIVE
For the people dressed as Ted & Tinky in the box seats you are brilliant
So I just did the meet and greet with @the-real-team-starkid and it was amazing, if you see this I was the girl who made the watercolour painting. It was such a dream to meet you I had so much to but so little words to put them in but anyway, if anyone is doing the meet greet it’s fucking great. Feeling the most autism fuelled excitement for the show later I CANT WAIT
THE NEW PHOTOS ON JON’S INSTAGRAM I DONT THINK ILL EVER BE THE SAME
IM SO EXCITED TO SEE PAULKINS IN ACTION TOMORROW AAAAA
im not even watching the stream but ., holy shit. holy shit., holy fucking shit
THESE NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS IM ACTUALLY BUGGING OUT
It IS AN AMAZING DAY TO BE A MISS HOLLOWAY FAN OMFG!!!!!!
this is my favorite part of tgwdlm:r proshot! 😊💗
thinking about the audience capacity of the theater TGWDLM was originally preformed at compared to how massive the apollo theater in london is is so crazy. some clips i see of the curtain call you can barely hear emma screaming because of how LOUD that audience is. but dude i am thinking. the bigger the audience is at a show of TGWDLM the more terrifying its ending really gets.
of course you as the audience can't help emma even as she begs for you to, it's just a show, and it was fucking phenomenal so you are cheering. BUT so are the actors, who in the context of the story are the infected. and in the context of the story YOU are there too, cheering along with them. YOU are infected.
i think this is why inevitable and the ending as a whole make me sick to my stomach in a way my words will never adequately describe. we watch as the apotheosis strips paul and the others of their individuality, turning the world into one big musical number, and we are comfortable viewing it all from an audience perspective. but when emma cries to YOU, something shifts. the wall is broken. everything about the show is perfectly set up so that by the end you will be whooping and applauding at a character that so desperately needs your help.
it's set up so that you can initially feel you are in line with the heroes of the story, only for it to put you in the same position as the villain. because maybe in reality that isn't as uncommon of a circumstance as you might think. how often do we dismiss ourselves all the while viewing tragedy from a comfortable audience seat, treating it as a spectacle? i believe this is the question the show wants you to walk away with.
from emma's perspective in the original TGWDLM production its a moderately sized crowd of us against her (still terrifying), but in the west end theater it's this gigantic surging ocean of people all laughing at her desperation.
anyway all this to say what an insane way to incorporate the audience into the message of your story. riveting shit. live theater is so beautiful
WHO UP POKING THEIR OTHO AT THE APOLLO THEATRE ON FRIDAY THE 22ND OF MAY!!!!
