becoming an adult is essentially having all your friends in different cities and permanently missing someone

OH MAN
my animal behavior professor just emailed me this
LOOK AT THIS INCREDIBLY GOOD BOY
#i have reason to believe cresties are governed by a form of ragdoll physics as of yet unknown and unstudied by man
That flailing motion of the legs is actually the crestie adjusting/stabilizing to better land on their perch. There’s a really cool tED talk (I’m gonna have to go find the link later) talking about how if you put a gecko in a wind tunnel they will actually start using a flapping motion with their legs to stabilize themselves and can actually somewhat glide and steer themselves over long jumps. Scientists think that the first birds may have started to evolve flight and wings out of this inherited reptile instinct to flap the front legs to stabilize and steer when jumping down from trees.
