The real slowburn that we were robbed of
And the ship that all the sun/moon yin/yang imagery actually belongs too
My most recent ask has me once again thinking about a post I mad that got me some heat even in RWDE circles but I will die on the hill that if Glynda was in Atlas she would look at James and RW/BY recognize they are both having severe trauma responses to Salem is coming and be able to talk to them both through what they’re going through and help them come to a resolution that both sides can live with because with Salem coming that’s kind of the best anyone can do.
I think I also want to explain my big bias about romance in epics: a heavily opinionated thread
Keep in mind, I’m not trying to throw shade at any indie creators who do this, just trying to explain my style and why
I really don’t like “Star-Crossed” Lovers and “Love interest to be built up and killed off” tropes. Not sure I ever did honesty.
I get why they work, they just don’t work for me. Unless like Peter Parker they get another chance again.
And three franchises were the final straw for me, and what drove me to go indie along with being inspired by indie works of others
First it was RWBY the tragic end of Arkos and what I feared to be sane of Black Sun among others along with the doomed fate of Oscar Pine
I tried to express my distaste of it on tumblr and RWBY wiki discussion forum(big mistake, I know) and I regretted it so much
Never had I met a fanbase so arrogant, self righteous, and sanctimonious about this kind of stuff, going on how amazing these tropes and dark stories like RWBY initially seemed circa V3-Finale along with Madoka Magica and Akame Ga Kill were and sneering at anything even one shade lighter than that
They were either passive-aggressively judging and gaslighting me, or outright lecturing me
How a epic story that has Dork knight and a lonely warrior woman isolated by society crushing on him, or a unlucky moody girl and sunshine himbo, a doomed hero having a well earned happy ending, especially if it involved resurrection as a good thing was nothing but “pandering”, pretty, and worthless and the preference of the weak and cowardly
Even one fan said “people don’t find that interesting, sorry.” And that another fan seemed to stated characters like Pyrrha and Jaune are only fit for tragic endings because “that’s the kind of character she is” both of which these fans spoke as these things were gospel, or they themselves had some kind of storytelling authority
Then I heard about Superman and Lois Lane getting married and having a kid and even Bruce and Selena getting hitched, until hearing both marriages get trashed along with a few others
Along with the defense Dan Didio gave
It was absolutely MADDENING to me
"Heroes shouldn’t have happy personal lives. They are committed to being that person and committed to defending others at the sacrifice of their own personal interests.
That’s very important and something we reinforced. People in the Bat family their personal lives basically suck. Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon and Kathy Kane. It’s wonderful that they try to establish personal lives, but it’s equally important that they set them aside. That is our mandate, that is our edict and that is our stand."
Like, these guys want to hopeful, but only in certain ways the pop-culture/literary ‘intellectuals’ deem acceptable as well as what they deem to be ‘interesting’ and what I had in mind did not only not qualify, it was seen as outright heresy
When I brought this up in my grievances with stories like RWBY, one holier-that-thou jerk supported it because
“Single Batman and Superman sells well”
After writing my preferences off as “pandering” and only for the likes such as Disney and Marvel,
The Self-Centered hypocrisy was staggering because what he said and his many followers were basically saying this;
“We don’t like it when your niche interest stuff is forced into our stuff, but when the case is in the reverse? We’re totally cool with that, and we hope it keeps happening.”
other fans said what I wanted was only for sitcoms, imposing themselves as gatekeepers of *epic storytelling itself*
From where I was standing, there is a growing hatred of couples in epics go through and making it and even getting married and having children, especially those of certain dynamics all under the guise of “hopepunk” and “The Greater Good.” Or whatever the term is now
Prattled on by conceited fandoms who in my opinion, have become a bunch of literary snobs who think way too highly of themselves
Who go around deciding what ways are legitimate “raised stakes” and “consequences”,
both which might I add are defined by their *own* standards,
along with their own preferences, especially fates for of certain kinds of ships and characters, which they flaunt as “objective” and above those of “the unwashed masses” in order to justify glorifying them as well as themselves for liking them
Which then afterwards these fandoms pressure these standards onto aspiring writers such as myself or be exiled to sitcoms, romcoms, Disney, or Marvel.
Because it’s not “entitlement” if it’s directed at the peasants I guess.
That along with the fact their so insecure and discontent with just being different, they need to feel superior than others for their own preferences
Nor they can’t handle the idea somewhere out there there is story that have characters like the those of the stories they enjoy, but with a different outcome
All epic fiction, its characters, its settings, its themes, its use of its inspirations, the creator’s style needs to begin and end on terms of these self-appointed arbiters who, once again, try to justify by presenting their preferences, tastes, and “personal emotional beats” as objective and superior
And once again: I’m *NOT* saying creators who goes with the tragic romance route are bad or malicious, most of them are just doing their thing
This problem lies with sycophantic individuals among fandoms who appoint their chosen champion’s ways as law and act offended on their behalf, even though they never spoken to these creators personally nor did these creators asked them to pick up a sword in their name and are not held accountable for their behavior
And what’s worse, is that these groups imply epic stories where heroic couples get married and have families are allegedly incompatible outside of Disney or Marvel or else it ends up as terrible story
Which they will imply is the case for stories like DragonBall Z, Sword Art Online, and Naruto/Boruto
But when *their* way of doing things ruins a franchise like DC comics and people complain about it?
It’s the whining of unwashed masses or vocal toxic minority opposed to the enlightened few or informed majority
Because *their* way makes everything better and always will
It’s incredibly self absorbed and narcissistic
So that’s why I’ve been so keen on having my heroes find love, get married and having families. Especially ones who’ve been through so much sorrow.
I’m just weary of this and tired of fandoms telling me when I’m disappointed;
“It’s not for you” and implying “nothing should be for you and everything should be for us”
And I’m certain I’m not the only one who feels this way
You don’t have to share my personal tastes and distaste’s in story beats in epics, once again, I just want you guys to understand.
I just read an article that was a list of anime’s fans of ATLA should watch, and y’all… RW//BY was on it lmao
Exact quote:
“RW//BY isn’t a traditional anime as it’s produced in the United States of America instead of in Japan. It does, however, use a lot of the elements fantasy anime is known for, including a trek across the known world, just like in Avatar. The teams in RWBY are born out of school assignments instead of necessity, but like Avatar, the group of teenagers is tasked with stopping someone who wants to use their power to ruin the world. Taking inspiration from fairy tales, the audience will find a lot of things familiar about the story, but with new twists on characters and happy endings. The series deals with grief, the burden of responsibility, and fear in a lot of the same ways Avatar does.”
Not even getting into everything false about this, but the bit about it deals with heavy themes the same way… that in itself is so inaccurate, I’m in tears lol
People have got to stop trying to compare their favorite shows to ATLA.
You are not on that level. You will never be on that level.
Louder, for the people in the back.
Not even The Dragon Prince, made by some of the same creators, is on par.
I bet Sun's attitude towards bb will be almost line for line the same as Mako's reaction to Korrasami. He will say they're perfect for each other. Freeing bb fans of any potential guilt while shaming any remaining blacksun fans because "See? Sun is happy for them too." Y'all just a bunch of bigots!
If he's not at least a little bit heartbroken/confused at where the fuck bees came from, i'll be disappointed.
sun would NOT support bees 100% off the bat. he should be RIGHTFULLY heartbroken. he LOVED Blake. you don't just get over that *overnight*, fam. that's not how that works.
that said, i can unfortunately probably agree with that being a more likely scenario because crwby are POS and don't actually give any fucks about their fans or good storytelling whatsoever.

Honestly I’m gonna find it forever funny whenever I see people say “BlackSun shippers ruined the ship for me” and then completely ignore how most of the time bee shippers were harassing the whole fandom and BlackSun, amongst other shippers, were usually just defending themselves, and it’s to the point now that what’s left of the fandom is just a bunch of bee fanatics and wasps. Rarepairs don’t even really get shipped anymore. Or atleast, no content gets made. And that is 100% on the wasps.
I sincerely hope they all look back, after RW/BY ends, and cringe at all the harassment they did to people simply for having a different ship.
Gonna say this again so people can see it.
"And that is 100% on the Wasps."
Because the Wasps and BB shippers ruined everything for this fandom to ever thrive.
on one hand, I find it absolutely hilarious that the crazy bee stans gaslit themselves so hard into believing Blacksun had no credibility whatsoever, that Blake and Sun’s relationship was totally platonic and any other reading makes you a homophobe only for Miles Luna to be like “Yeah we were totally playing around with Blake and Sun teasing a will they won’t they.”
But on the other hand I’m angry, cause people have been harassed and bullied for thinking there was anything between Blake and Sun, yelled at that we were wrong when the evidence is right there in the show. And what’s worse is that once again, the revisionist history will come and pretend that wasn’t the case.
Sun to Blake
I guess... I like Tauradonna now. But like, in a 'I don't condone the real life dynamics of it for or upon real people', just...
The emotional and mental whump of it. Some physical but mostly being mental.
Like my brainrot is now two characters that are both the best and the worst to each other and should really just go to counseling instead of meeting up at random shady shops in the middle of the night because they're currently enemies in an ongoing racial war and can't be seen together being way too cozy.
So. Yeah.
That's all this announcement was. I just wanted to get it out of the way that I have a new Problematic Pair and it might not be a midnight phase.
Between @scipiosmith's Yang ask and a post I saw a few days ago, it's got me thinking. The post in question brought up how Yang doesn't really fit in with the rest of Team RWBY: Ruby is a fated anti-Grimm warrior whose kind have been hunted nearly to extinction, Weiss is the heiress to the largest company in the world who wants to change her family's reputation and undo the damage her father has done, Blake is the former 'terrorist' princess of the faunus who's been fighting for their rights since she was a child (largely against said company), but Yang is just… Yang. She's just Ruby's sister, who's trying to find her mother. Everyone else has something big and important going on, but the closest Yang has to that is that her mother is a bandit queen… except Raven doesn't care about her so that doesn't mean anything.
Contrast this with JNPR. Jaune is a cheat who doesn't even know what aura is, Nora and Ren are orphans from a small town… but Pyrrha is an international celebrity, a 4-time tournament winner who has never lost a fight, with a major sponsorship deal, someone who Weiss – who's part of the very highest level of society from another country — knows all about, and who latches onto anyone who doesn't immediately recognise her name and face.
I think you know where I'm going with this. What if we swapped the odd ones out? What if, rather than teams RWBY and JNPR, we had teams RNBW and JRNY? How would it change things?
Well, here's a few ways it might.
Schneekos (hey, I'm still me lol). Alternatively, Pyrruby and Monochrome would work really well in this.
Ozpin selects Yang to be the new Fall Maiden. She lacks direction but she's got a good heart, and she's strong; this will give her purpose. Moreover, a Maiden will need to hide away, and where better to hide than with Tai, his old agent? No one will give a second thought to Yang returning home, and should she need to be anywhere, a trip with her uncle would hardly be strange.
Yang isn't totally sure how she feels about this, mostly because of the risk of losing herself. Trying not to let anything on, she talks to Ruby. Who else? These are the stories she use to read to her! But she's not such a cool big sister anymore; Ruby is stretching her wings, she has her own friends… she doesn't need Yang the same way now. But if Yang can be one of the figures from the stories, she'll always be the cool big sister, right? Ruby is super excited of course, given that her idea of hunters and heroes is still straight out of those stories, and she inadvertently encourages Yang to accept.
Hot-tempered as ever, when the Beacon attack happens and Cinder kills Amber, Yang is right on her heels. Unlike Pyrrha, she's at close to full aura, but also unlike Pyrrha, she depends on getting hit as part of her fighting style. Things end more or less the same, only this time Ruby is arriving just in time to see her sister die.
Ruby is the one to get the major grief arc in Mistral (but we don't leave out the others, because it would be ridiculous for them not to grieve their lost friend). She doesn't have just one training video, she has lots of pictures and videos from over the years, and the others will frequently catch her looking at them and crying as they're travelling. She takes to wearing Yang's gauntlets (if Cinder melted them, perhaps an older pair that no longer fit Yang but would fit Ruby) and, slowly but surely over the course of several seasons, learns to fight with them like Yang did — never as well necessarily since they aren't her primary weapon, but with the same style.
Pyrrha is faced with many of her fans suddenly turning on her, believing she murdered Penny and caused Beacon's downfall. Her mother is furious with her for 'throwing away the life they'd worked so hard to build'. She has to come to terms with herself beyond her persona and reputation, and ultimately decide to truly take control of her own destiny.
At some point after reuniting, Ruby snaps at Pyrrha (probably when the latter is trying to comfort her or something), not just because of Penny but Yang too. Why was Yang the one that had to do all that? Pyrrha's the champion, she should've been the one to do it! Fighting people is what she does!!
Ruby is the one who's especially angry that Ozpin kept his secrets from them, because her sister died for it. Qrow's anger also fits in better since Yang was his niece.
Weiss takes Yang's place in the Adam fight. She has to confront firsthand what the SDC does, driving her (more) to do something about it when the group returns to Atlas.
Given Ruby's ire toward Ozpin, she doesn't keep his secrets from Ironwood, who is now able to immediately begin altering his plans to account for new information.
With Weiss fired up from what she saw in Adam, she takes a much larger and more active role in opposing her father, publicly denouncing the SDC's practices and revealing what she's seen. Although she has no proof and thus can't bring criminal charges against him, her efforts draw the attention of the Happy Huntresses, the workers of Mantle, and Dr. Watts. The former groups quickly become allies, while Watts begins targeting her, thus leading the team into their initial villain for the arc.
I could keep going, but I'm drifting far enough out that it's less changes and more a totally different story from there. Which could of course happen earlier too! Or less could change, or different things!
What I find really interesting, however, is that by making that one little change — by switching Yang and Pyrrha's positions but still having Ozpin pick 'the B team ace' — so many things suddenly fall into place so well. So many things that were, to a greater or lesser degree, askew, no longer are. Everything just smoothes out so much and makes more sense, and the only thing so far that doesn't click into place is bb (which imo needs a lot of work anyway, so yeah).
Still laughing at the bees being made canon in a filler volume
Hi @multishipper444!
Bees still suck, sorry!
But like, are you okay? You know they’re just pixels, right? Maybe you should touch grass.
This video is so funny because it goes from them blushing at each other to saying I love you in 30 seconds with nothing else in between. JelloApocalypse was right: They "not talked" their way into being girlfriends.
Take a good, hard look, RWBY Fans
Any time you wonder why your FNDM is getting shat on or why your show is getting flack, just look back to this tweet and realize a fan got so defensive of RWBY that they went out to attack a RWBY critic, called him a slur, said this is why his mom and cousin are burning in hell, and is devoting their entire Twitter account to attacking both him and another critic.
Think about that next time you want to #greenlightv10.
My new theory of how Blake became Blek (Blake taken over by an imposter who is Not Blake around the start of season six) is that she's actually Velvet in disguise.
I mean, think about it. Every single line she said since the train to Argus would feel much more in character for Velvet than for Blake, especially in V9. Velvet is more of an optimist, she's sweet, a follower, a bit meek and doesn't stand up for herself very well, and Yang is definitely her type. Oh! And her lack of fashion sense makes Blake's volume 7-9 look make total sense
Blek might just be Velvet!
you're worried that if sun gets brought back into the story, the writers will turn him into a bumblebly supporter
i'm worried that if ghira gets brought back into the story, the writers will have him adore yang which the shippers will use as a proof that bumbleby is a better ship than blacksun
we are not the same
I’m worried about both tbh lol
“I hate obvious symbolism” bro shut up sun and moon couples are a pillar of our society
