Painting 1: Amethyst, painted in 2007, I believe. I was so proud of this painting at the time. The paint flowed exactly right and I had so much fun painting it. You ever have a painting you look at and wonder how YOU painted it? That’s this painting. Painting 2: Aries, painted in 2015. Part of my Zodiac series (which I have yet to finish). I just really enjoyed making those lotus. I was obsessed with water lilies and lotus at the time. They’re just so beautiful! Painting 3: This is a commission piece so it has no name. Finally got my new art table set up. I received it for Christmas from my parents but I’ve had so much going on in my studio/guest room that I didn’t want to put it up. However, now my husband is having to use my studio room as an office. I’ve got my map drawn out! My watercolor sketches have to be very accurate so the portraits actually look like the people I’m painting. The drawing is the hardest part of painting but it’s worth it, because once it’s transferred to the paper, it’s kinda like painting a coloring book. Of course, lots of thought goes into the color choices, but I don’t have to think about where they go as much of my drawing is accurate. Finished the sketch/lighting study. I always do a black and white study before moving onto the painting. It helps me to see where my lights and Darius are going to go but it also helps me to draw it everything so I can reduce it to a line before I start the watercolor. Watercolors need to have a complete drawing underneath because, unlike oils, things can’t be moved around after the paint has been applied to the paper.
