This scene is so cute and a great illustration of the absolute PLETHORA of pronouns there are in Japanese.  Each one has a specific connotation about how the person is presenting themselves or views themselves. 

For example:  Watashi - the word for “i” taught in most Japanese Language classes is almost entirely used by women and young girls. “Watakushi” is exclusively feminine. 

Boku is kind of a neutral “I” for boys and men, the kind of “I” you use around acquaintences or people you don’t know well. and “Ore” is informal and the kind of “I” you’d use as a male around other males who are your peers and friends. 

That blush gets me every time as they are trying to figure out which is the correct Pronoun to use in the situation. 

Also, this clumsy attempt to find the right pronoun? It me.

Excellent! I love this! This is so good for demonstrating how weird Japanese is when it comes to pronouns. Just for fun, here are all the Japanese pronouns I am aware of, after four years of study (not counting manga and anime):

私 watashi/watakushi - polite speech

僕 boku - used by young boys/tomboys

俺 ore - macho

わし washi - old codger

あたし atashi - girly

拙者 sessha - super formal/deferent

我が wa(ga) - kinda like the royal “we”

自分 jibun - militaristic/individualist

There are others, but this gives you a sense of how formality & self/other plays a role in the culture.

For reference like they say in the notes, this is the person who was walking around Kent state with a gun “because it’s her right.” And is now a reporter for infowars and is super cruel and mean to everyone cause she can be.

anyone else notice how her tone changes when from a more aggressive one to a softer non-threatening one once she is talking to the white security officer 

like she goes full blown into “i’m an innocent white lady who is being picked on and did no wrong here” tone of voice 

compared with her much more hostile manner and tone when she was talking to the campaign staff member 

there are very distinctive tonal and attitude changes when she was talking to a black man and then to a white man and with each one you can clearly see how she uses white womanhood/femininity as weapon and cudgel

i find it pretty scary how quickly and easily she was able to just shift from to one to other

An important part to note is that this was a members- only event which she was not invited to. It was rented out and put on by AFT, or the American Federation of Teachers, a union. She also had no press pass, and was sitting in a reserved area at an event she wasn’t invited to, hosted at a high school. Someone infamous for toting around deadly weapons on campuses busted into a private event at a high school, then pretended to be shocked when she was asked to leave.
