I am 27 and am wanting to make a game featuring my interests! (Right now my mind is stuck on mechs and robots)

Just had an idea based on the typical cute aggression moment with my cat, you know the one? Where you take your cats little paws and want to squeeze the little paw pads because they are so adorable? And the crazier among us pretend to bite the cat who just.... Is bored with our antics?

I'm praying this wasn't done before or I would look INCREDIBLY silly. But the idea is similar to when you take a silicone mold for any fluffy creature to sell like those adorable teacup piglets or puppies etc... that you just make a little gummy mold for a cat paw, and then somehow you flock the outside with cotton candy.

I'm not a sweets expert but I think by just.. having a gummy mix that comes out slightly stickier than gummies usually are (think how gummies get stickier as they melt) you'd need it to be similar but without heat that would melt or ruin the cotton candy and then just dip the gummy candy around your cotton candy.

The end result would look like a fluffy cat paw and be squishy and tasty, and you'd absolutely need to brush afterwards because that is candy on candy XD

If anyone tries this I 100 percent need to see it or if it already exists does this have a name? Because I'd love to try it lol.

Oh you could do the same sort of idea but for a head to go with it? Or just as the overall dessert or something? Now I'm thinking of when people make those adorable bento boxes where they shape the rice and things like little characters? Anyhow I'll stop before I go on too much about this dumb little idea 😅

Not my usual post but I was just proud of how this dumb furby came out XD

Had to get my blood drawn yesterday and my dad picked me up some burger king since I was lightheaded.... They. Had. Furbies!!!!

I hated the blank eyed template though so painted it. Also it's a weird little... Fortune teller furby thing? The back you shake some dice to get your answer? I love it lol.

Forgot to post this with the other one but here is an example of the explorations I'd been talking about!

Pebbles concept art. I was trying to figure out how tf to draw super simple cartoon cats since my only references had been anime cats which tend to be needlessly detailed???

Fun fact while designing him: I gave him clawless nubs but he has a warriors spirit and CRAVES violence he can never have. Just like all cats. (I can say this because my cats are sweethearts to me... And evil to each other and everyone else. Cats contain unfathomable rage in a tiny package.) All he can do is smack things... Uselessly.. that and pouting.

Also an example of the simple stick figure style I mentioned. All the art shown on the page that ISNT the shrimp cat or person sketches that are in blue? From old cartoons. Milkshake from billy and Mandy for a fat reference. Some random animals from I think it was big city greens? Pearl from Steven universe but randomly fused with lemon grab I found on Pinterest uncredited.. and then I'm going off color palette since I don't think I have this file anymore but ppg for some reason? If they had a cat too I think that's why lol?

This little shrimp cat is named Pebbles!

No the name doesn't start ever making sense it's just what I thought of after I drew him!

This is a scrapped concept for him. I intend to make him just be a cute companion that vaguely sits around your home or follows you around. Maybe he'll pick up drops for you occasionally?

He's mostly there for the adorable ambience... Kind of like how the cat and iguana in cyberpunk literally don't do anything other than cutely pose in your apartment by taking naps or hanging out in empty hampers.

Also old Rowan face is visible here lol

The little 2d face never fit him properly because I just stretched over an older models face to test out the proportions

I am heavily addicted to a certain cookie game... It should be obvious which. I won be tagging it for obvious reason LMAO. But playing the game made me realize how cool designs can be while still being simple. Often times to try to improve a design I would heavily overcomplicate them, try for realism and then use that like a crutch. To me the more detailed meant the more important I was showing even if I didn't enjoy the art direction. I didn't want to copy the style and proportions of said game though it didn't match the adult tone and style I'm hoping to aim for. And I wanted my work to clearly stand as its own thing.

I began to study simpler styles that I actually enjoyed drawing in, this tended to be rounder cookie or marshmallow heads, stick figures and things that were messy and sketchy. Eventually frustrated with the more angular heads I'd just drawn my characters in the cookie style... Then just gave my 3d models rounder heads. I ended up really liking the result and I hope it's not off-putting and other can see the vision I was hoping for LMAO.

This artwork Is actually pretty old compared to the overall project. This character, Rowan, had brown eyes in this pic which was intended as a lighthearted goof drawing at a time where trying to stay on model was frustrating me.

For the body I also took look inspiration proportionally from NSR.

I think through these adjustments his character finally began to look older as prior to this I kept super shrinking his arms, the chest would be too small or too big, the legs were often far too long or way too short.

I'm also torn between altering his hair a bit more or keeping it as is.

Some of my oldest models for this game. Originally it was going in a VERY different direction where you'd pick between a brineling and abyssborne. The style was katamari inspired because it meant modelling was super easy to do. These guys were Basically mermaids loosely inspired by olms and axolotl mixed with a gulper eel and toad. The gulper eel head eventually became a clamshell head that the mermaid torso for the abyssborne resided in.

It was going to be a sort of like... Turf war game but with light vs dark instead of paint?

At this point I was just gonna have it be an entirely silly concept where you could blow yourself up to roll over your enemies. It was incredibly lighthearted and dorky and had zero plot. I might go back to it one day but for now this concept is scrapped AF cause I lost inspo for it early on.

Some outdated character models and art direction concepts. The hair is a must have and has been the most difficult part to figure out for me so far. I have a few ideas of what direction to take it but not concrete so far. It's been challenging choosing between something more cartoonish or more angular and detailed.

Pink one was Tash in an outdated bug like content I didn't like the direction of.

The more detailed faces and hair styles were looking very.... Burton-y? Not exactly but it reminded me of a very generic Gothic style that didn't at all fit the tone or characters that I saw in my head.

I like the one middle lineup specifically only the hair and might try to use that same technique again. It makes it look very doodley/closer to my art style, but I'm not sure how I'd animate the hair in grease pencil without having to go frame by frame over and over. I have a possible solution in my head but only time will tell if it actually works.

Been gone a while for a myriad of reasons irl but not dead!

Some character exploration art and models for the game I'm working on!

Early hair and face exploration as well as earlier models with rounder bodies that didn't really fit the tone I was going for.

Models and movement tests for flora and fauna might be too complicated to replicate a bunch.... But we'll just have to wait and see 👀

And finally the art style I think I'll stick to for the game inspired loosely by low poly models with 2d faces like in mouth washing or animal crossing!

One thing I have repeatedly struggled with is finding and keeping motivation on projects. Today I forced myself to keep focus and just try and get something down like one might on paper.

So I started by using this official free blender base mesh (stylized woman primitive)

Normally the hardest part of any project for me in 3d is the sheer overwhelm of remaking the same type of form I've made a thousand times over. It leads to worse and worse results and I often end up frustrated and drop the program for months.

So I bit the bullet and decided to just use the free assets provided... I don't know why I didn't do that to begin with? And I ended up much happier as a result with how these based came out that I want to use in a game I'm working on:

These aren't even rigged yet I was just testing the poses out to ensure they'd work!

Oh and to provide credit even if you can't see it well but want to check it out yourself, the scorpion tail of the character on the left in the second pic above was made by this person over here on sketchfab!

Everything is far from finished but it's rewarding to see progress actually happening after feeling like it never would. If you're a person who struggles with motivation or focus but have the skills I recommend a workflow like this. It's a lot more therapeutic to just have free bases you can use to get your ideas down rather than torture yourself through your least favorite parts and leave your ideas stuck in your head.

Got further along with this animation, redid the flight sequence and added little water droplet effects and tears, made the little sketches more complex too, I've been a bit under the weather the last week though so progress has been a lot slower than I'd like 🫠

This has been a reoccurring question and I am very flattered but currently my commissions are closed!

Now that I know some people have interest though I'd love to start opening them soon! I don't have a set date in mind, I want to finish a few of my own projects and art pieces first!

This looks rough as hell.... Cause it is XD. I've been going back and fourth on what control schemes I want for my game. What fun cosmetics I want to include. Trying to determine how hard each would be.

In this instance I got very basic WASD movement using 8 directional movement in Construct 3.

I also added a very basic cat companion, it follows you when you are near and stops when you stray too far.

I'm thinking I'll keep pets within your home or wandering the streets. Something that makes the world feel lived in but also doable so I don't yank all my hair out trying to do some complex NPC pet AI and mini games.
