His words aren't reassuring to her. In fact, it's having the opposite effect of making the situation worse, and no matter how many times she can think about how things were before — this is their now. Absence, arguing, a heartbeat that aches so heavily that she feels as though she's dying. When her suspicions are confirmed about where he's been, Jessie feels her whole world crumble and shake beneath her. A petty comment turns into the truth in an instant, and if Jessie were being honest with herself, the redhead didn't want to hear any more of his lying and his desperation to keep her under his thumb.
Klaus had slept with someone else. It makes her shrink, her skin crawling at the idea of him anywhere near someone else in the way that she's had him for the past few years now. Another person sleeping with her husband. It makes her feel like she's going to cry, maybe scream at him at the top of her lungs, but she doesn't. Not when the words she has to say come out as a dry humorless laugh and she shakes back her tears with a frown. His step closer didn't help, shoulders rising a bit out of their tenseness as she backs up instead.
"And instead of stayin' here an' makin' it better, you're here t'get a rise outta me." Jessie scoffs. "You're not listenin' t'me when I talk t'you 'cause you think I'm tryin' t'attack you or get you angry when it's the complete opposite of what I want. I just told you I want you here an' you're trying t'get me t'tell you I want you to stay?" A look of disbelief spawns on her features. "It sounds like you want me to cut you loose so you can go fuck whoever it was you were with before you got here so you don't have to feel guilty about it." There's heat at the base of her neck, like branches of a tree it spreads its roots across her shoulders and up to her temple, a pounding pressing into her skull as she shakes her head.
"I am your wife, Klaus. Not a fling, a one night stand, or a girlfriend," She shows her ring, dangling it in front of his face before she forcefully takes it off her finger. "If it means nothin' t'you that we had a whole fuckin' ceremony where we read vows and stood there promisin' a forever, that alla this is complete bullshit, an' me gettin' upset 'cause I want to spend some damn time with you is such a fuckin' problem, how about you stop bein' a coward an' just end it with me completely. It ain't a gigantic ask to want you around, I think it's part of the job, actually. Not somethin' t'have t'beg for."
She's not finished, but she needed a quick breath before she's squeezing her eyes shut, a shaky sigh as she slowly lowers the ring down to the table.
"I love you," Her words doesn't match the pained expression on her face. "I have never loved anyone as much as I love you," with every word that escapes, the volume of her ramblings get quieter, a crack in the last syllable as she shakes her head. Jessie takes another breath before looking back up at him, eyes glossed over from that prickling feeling of tears. "But now I don't trust you."
