~ “Smile In The Face of Tragedy”
Chapter 3: Hold Back The Rain
Pairings: Billy Hargrove x Henderson!Reader, Steve Harrington x Best friend!Reader
(Y/N) learns something about Billy that leaves her questioning their relationship. Meanwhile, her and Steve make up.
(Y/N)’s cheek met warm soft skin, she buried her head in the tone chest below her; sighing contentedly. She blew a raspberry on Billy’s stomach, in hopes of waking him up. She succeeded! Soft giggles erupted from him, she smiled as she felt him twitch a bit. “Morning ‘darling”, he murmured, hugging her tighter and kissing her head. “Morning B, how’s your head feeling?” , (Y/N) asked, referring to his possible hangover. “Hurts like a bitch- I assume you have some painkillers?”, he groaned, hitting the headboard. “In the bathroom, down the hall. Just a breifew- you might run into my family”, she blushed, “Hey! It’s nothing I can’t handle, I’ll try to be as less intimidating as possible, besides! I already met your mom”, he smirked. (Y/N) playfully slapped his chest, “So I guess you didn’t forget much from last night huh?”.
Billy stumbled to find the bathroom, still only wearing his boxers. (Y/N) tried to convince him to put his jeans on, even by throwing them at him, but he wouldn’t take them. The bathroom door was open, peeking in, Billy saw someone who he assumed was her brother. He looked like he was almost putting on perfume? Maybe he wanted to impress a girl and make it pass as cologne? Now, if it was girls, this was definitely up Billy’s alley. “Hey little dude- I hope your crush likes the smell of flowers”, he chuckled. Dustin was startled by the unfamiliar voice, even though he thought he'd heard it before. Though the only time he has heard it, was always in an angry tone. Directed at his crush. He shot his head to the voice, and there Billy Hargrove was. The same Billy Hargrove that tried to run over him and his friends the other day. “(Y/N)!!!!” Dustin screamed, trying to get his sister to come into the room. He wanted to know the meaning of this.
Hearing the shouts of her brother, she quickly scampered into the bathroom. A bra and some jeans only covered her, she didn’t have time to put her blouse on. “What’s going on- is that my perfume?”, she pointed at Dustin’s hand, confused. “No time for that! Can you explain to me why this asshole is here?”, he motioned to Billy. Billy scoffed, looking offended. The kid didn’t even know him! Or did he? “Do you two know each other?'' She was really confused. “This mullet wearing jerk- tried to hit my friends and I with his car yesterday!”, he shouted angrily. “Excuse me?”, she was exasperated. “B- is this true?”. He didn’t mean for (Y/N) to find out, and now that Billy knew that one of the kids was her brother, he felt extremely guilty.
Billy was the alpha male type, that was for certain. That’s the only “bad” trait he wanted (Y/N) to really know about, but sometimes he did bad things. He hurt people. He took out his anger. Billy had a storm brewing inside him, he had these pent up emotions that could only be channeled by aggression. (Y/N) was able to mend that, anytime he was with her, he felt calm. Something was so comforting and familiar about her that he couldn’t bring himself to be angry, and now he’s messed up. In this one moment, Billy Hargrove hated himself. It couldn’t match the times Billy’s father has talked down on him. He’s felt defeated, sure, but never this. He hated himself because he’s lost his first grasp on happiness that he’s had in awhile.
“It’s true- but (Y/N) it’s not what you think!”, he pleaded. “It sounds exactly what I think it sounds like”, (Y/N) glared at him. “Wait sweetheart-“, “No Billy! Do you realize you nearly slaughtered three teenage boys? Just get dressed and get out, don’t even think about talking to me at school!”, now she was angry. He wanted to say something- but he was speechless. Billy nodded his head slightly, leaving the room. During her spur of anger and confusion, she was trying to hold back obvious tears, but now that he was gone, she let them flow. “Dusty, I had no idea”, she sobed. “Hey (Y/N/N), it’s not your fault”, Dustin shushed her softly, holding his sister in an embrace. Dustin was still wondering why Billy was here in the first place, but he decided not to question it. “Is momma up- I’d hate for her to hear all the commotion”, she whimpered. Dustin pulled away from her slightly, “She had to head out early, but she won’t be too late getting home tonight”, (Y/N) smiled at this. It's been awhile since they’ve had a family night. “Well I’ll tell you what, after school before mom gets home, I’ll take you on a ride on my ‘Harley to the arcade, mhm?”, she offered. His face automatically lit up, “Really? That’d be so cool! Does that mean I’m riding with you today?”, he beamed. “Sure is buddy! Now go get ready & we’ll head out, okay?”, “Sounds good!”.
While (Y/N) continued to get dressed, she was still trying to process the information she just heard. How could Billy have done something like that- he must’ve been angry about something. Billy seemed to have these little triggers that she couldn't explain; like when he grabbed her wrist, but this seemed more serious. She realized Max must’ve been in the car with him, and stopped him somehow. It was almost as if she didn’t, she wouldn’t have been seeing her brother today. Dustin, Lucas and Mike could’ve died at the hands of Billy Hargrove and she was stupid enough to trust him. (Y/N) Henderson was a fool. It wasn’t like she could turn back to Steve- she wasn’t exactly happy with him either. What mattered though, was that Dustin and his friends were safe. That’s all she can bring herself to think about right now. She loved those kids, and if anything at all were to happen to them, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.
Dustin was waiting eagerly at the front door. He had the motorcycle helmet (Y/N) had gotten for him for his last birthday, it was black and had yellow stars all over it. It reminded her of Star Wars, so she knew he’d love it. “Ready?”, she asked, smiling. Though Dustin could tell she was still distressed. “Are you?”, he asked back. She shrugged, knowing what he was getting at. “You know you don’t always have to smile through a tragic moment, right?”, he said. “You know me- always keeping my head up high!”. “Now come on, we don’t wanna be late!”.
They made their way up to her motorcycle, Dustin walking in front of her. She couldn’t help but notice his backpack looked like it was moving, which confused her. “Hey Dusty, is your backpack...moving?”, she questioned. Dustin whipped around to look at her. Then he remembered. With everything that’s happened, he didn’t get a chance to tell his sister about his discovery last night. He had snuck Dart into his bag so he could show his friends, he was pretty excited about the little creature. “Oh..I may have found something last night?”, he smirked. “Well bud- you can tell me ‘bout it later, we’re all already late as it is! ``Back seat or side car?”, she gestured to her vehicle. “Back seat!”.
(Y/N) hopped on her bike, Dustin sitting behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. She slid her motorcycle helmet on, her’s had a white and black checkered pattern. They rode off to school. Dustin was grinning from ear to ear, he loved when his sister took him on rides on her motorcycle. To him, (Y/N) was the coolest. The best sister he could’ve asked for, really. She drove a motorcycle, listened to the best ‘kind of music and never questioned him when he was doing something weird. His friends loved her, as well. She kept everyone in check while still managing to stay easy going. He never knew how she did it.
Before school, Dustin wanted to stop at the library. (Y/N) insisted that would make them even more late, but Dustin was persistent. He said he needed these books to help him partake on a curiosity voyage, and let’s face it, (Y/N) never was one to turn down his interest to learn something new.
When they made it to the school, (Y/N) noticed that the only parking spot open was one beside a dreadfully familiar camaro. How convenient. Despite her telling Billy not to talk to her, she wanted to know his input on what happened. Even though she shouldn’t, a part of her still trusted him. First period was cutting in close, but Billy was comfortably laid back on the hood of the camaro, smoking a cigarette. Parking beside him, she made sure not to make eye contact. She looked behind her at Dustin, shooting him a half smile. He nodded knowingly, heading off to the middle school.
(Y/N) sighed, grabbing a cigarette out of her jacket pocket. One of them had to talk first. “I hope you know you're making me late for the first period”, she muttered, lighting her cigarette. “I never welcomed you to stand in awkward silence with me”, he huffed. “I guess you're right- but I hope you still know that I don’t forgive you”, “I wasn’t expecting you too”. “Good”. This was so uncomfortable. “So what gives you the authority to skip class?”, (Y/N) asked. “Free period before basketball practice”, he stated simply. This meant Steve was free. “Well, there’s no use for me to go to class now, but I’m definitely not going to waste my time talking to you”, she glared at him, grabbing her backpack and heading to the one place she knew Steve was. The back field.
Sure enough, there he was. He was at the top of the bleachers, alone. Him & (Y/N) definitely had some important things to talk about. This wasn’t (Y/N) turning back to Steve, she wasn’t going to let herself be tied up in him again. She just wanted to know why he had showed up at her place last night, and more importantly, why he was so distressed. Walking up the bleachers, Steve had noticed her right away. “Mind if I sit?” she questioned. “I’m never one to turn you down”, he smiled softly. “You're probably here to talk about last night?”, he said. (Y/N) nodded. “Stevie, before you start, I just want to say that I’m not mad”, she stared down at her feet, “Are you mad at me?”, she questioned, looking back up at him. “Me? (Y/N/N), how could I stay mad at you? You want to run around with Hargrove, be my guest”, he shrugged. “Yeah I think my days being seen with Billy are over”, she chuckled nervously. “Oh-”, “I’d rather not talk about it”. “Fair enough- I guess it’s my turn to give an explanation now”, he responded. “Only if you want to”, she said reassuringly. “Well, I think Nance and I are done for good this time”, he stated in a somber tone, “Last night, we got into this fight. She said everything that I had been worried about in our relationship for awhile, that it was bullshit. That she didn’t love me. She went home with Byers that night”. “Steve I-”, (Y/N) started off, but he cut her off. “So evidently, I didn’t know who to turn to, I went to my house, and my parents weren't home, so I got more wasted than Nancy & drove to the only place I could think of”, “My place”, “Yes, your place”.
In a way, (Y/N) wasn’t surprised by his story. She knew it had to do with Nancy, but the fact that they could’ve been over for real this time, was good in her eyes. It sounded bad, but, this way Nancy & Jonathan could be together, and Steve could finally find a way to truly make himself feel happy. Even though the loose thread had finally been broken, it was going to take some time to be mended again, and (Y/N) was willing to help Steve through that. As long as she was able to cover the trauma that was Billy Hargrove. Though, (Y/N) wasn’t sure if she was ready to get rid of him. What he did was unforgivable, but she still couldn’t deny a connection like that. It wasn’t love at first sight sure, and it definitely wasn’t the same way she felt towards Steve, but it was something. Something she didn’t want to throw away. Unless he did something redeeming, she wasn’t going to take him back that easily, but somehow she had faith that he would.
The pair sat in silence. It was a comfortable silence, though. Steve was the first to speak up, “So you were into me, huh?”, he quipped, grinning. “Steveeeee”, (Y/N) groaned. “What? Was it the hair, the charm?”, he asked cockily. Now this was the Steve she knew. “All of that and more Stevie”, she rolled her eyes, playfully pushing his shoulder. “Aww you know you love me”, he smirked. “Yeah ‘cause if I didn’t no one else would”, she said sarcastically. “Ouch-you got me with that one”, he held his chest jokingly, as if he was getting shot. “Now come on, you got basketball practice and I don’t want to miss the second period”, she stood up, taking Steve’s hand. Steve removed his hand from her’s, placing an arm around her shoulders. (Y/N) smiled. She had gotten her best friend back.
Stepping into her second period class, which was English, she found her seat next to one of her friends, River. River was an art student, like herself. They had met in freshman year and really hit it off. Much to (Y/N)’s disappointment, Steve’s friends had always made fun of her. Calling River names like, “fairy” and “fag”, because River was in fact bisexual. They backed off around the time Steve had started dating Nancy, because they seemed to listen to Nancy more than (Y/N) about the wrongfulness of their teasing.
“Hey Riv”, she greeted. “(Y/N)! I missed you!”, she pulled her down into a hug. “River-” she laughed, “We saw each other in English yesterday, remember?”, “I know I know but it feels so long since we’ve really seen each other, you know?”, “Well we could’ve hung out at the Halloween party yesterday! Where were you?”, (Y/N) wondered. River smirked. “Promise me you won’t tell anyone, especially my mom”, “Come on Riv! Spit it out”, (Y/N) smiled intriguingly, “Okay a friend of mine may or may have not have gotten me into a gay bar last night!”, she whispered excitedly. “Riv, that's crazy! Sounds like a fun Halloween”, (Y/N) grinned. “Oh you bet it was! Much better than a crowded house filled with rhoudy teenagers, well at least in my opinion”.
English was more or less a free period, the teacher had given an assignment where they had to work in pairs with the person beside them. So (Y/N) had the privilege of working with River. The project was to be completed in class over the course of a week, so the students didn’t need to work on it at home. (Y/N) and River spent most of the period chatting, and arranging plans to hangout. “Hey my brother and I are going to the arcade after school, you're welcome to join us”, (Y/N) offered. “I’d love to but my R-X7 got totaled a few days ago, I’m supposed to pick it up at the mechanic this afternoon”. (Y/N) was shocked, she loved that car. “No! Not our joy ride! What happened?”, she asked worriedly. “I made the mistake of letting my little sister take it out for a spin, that tree never saw it coming!”River laughed slightly. “No worries though, the guy called this morning and said it was as good as new, they even gave me a free paint job”, River smiled contentedly.
Last summer, if (Y/N) wasn’t with Steve or the party, River and her would take her blue Mazda R-X7 up to a secret swimming hole they had found. They’d blast The Beach Boys & The B-52’s till the stars came out, and it had become their little spot. It was a perfect hideaway to have fun, and relieve stress. Even though the spot was supposed to be a secret, (Y/N) had suggested it as a date place for Steve and Nancy one time.
It was nearing the end of English class, and (Y/N) had two classes till lunch time. One was gym, which she shared with Steve and the other was Phycology, which was one of her favorite subjects. She stopped at her locker briefly to get her gym uniform. There were a lot of gym uniform pieces to choose from, but (Y/N) always liked the white tennis skirt and dark green sports bra. She felt the most comfortable in them. Surprisingly, the school also provided white and green Nike’s for the students to wear so everyone could match. Even though she hated to admit it, she loved sports attire. It was different from her normal style, but it gave her the feeling of being a cheerleader without having to be one. She played softball instead, she didn’t like the uniform’s as much, but she did love the sport. Which reminded her that she had practice after lunch. All the sports teams practiced on Thursday’s, mainly because there was usually a game on Friday. Tomorrow’s was Football, which she never really attended because she didn’t understand the fuss around the games.
Gym & Physcology went by pretty quickly, Gym was a free for all because the teacher knew all the sports teams were practicing hard for the upcoming games. Since Steve had done his practice, he helped (Y/N) practice for hers during gym. Since (Y/N) was the batter, Steve and her went outside and he pitched her some balls. It was pretty fun. (Y/N) was happy she had remembered to bring her letterman jacket, because it was pretty cold. A few of the girls who were on the team and her had also started a small match to help get ready. (Y/N) loved being on a sports team, it made her feel a part of something. (Y/N) was co-captain next to this girl Angelina, who was a very determined jock. She was also a cheerleader, so that’s how she landed the spot as captain. Angelina was really sweet, and a great captain. Her and (Y/N) were both very good at keeping the team motivated, and planned the best after game parties.
It was now lunch, and (Y/N) figured she’d visit Dustin at the Middle School. She was kind of interested in what his “discovery” was, and if he was going to show it to his friends, might as well see it as well. Walking into the school, she stopped at Mr. Clarke’s room. He’d probably know where they were. She knocked softly on the door, signalling her arrival. “(Y/N) Henderson! What a lovely surprise!`` he greeted cheerfully, standing up from his desk to give her a hug. “What brings my former favourite student here?”, he asked. “I was wondering where Dustin was? I wanted to surprise him on his lunch break”, she smiled. “Oh! I believe Mr. Henderson and his friends are in the AV club”, he motioned to the door across the hall. “Thanks Scott! It was nice seeing you!”.
(Y/N) knocked on the door of the AV club, “Who is it?” she heard her brother’s voice. “It’s your sister dipshit, open up”, (Y/N) grinned. The door swung open, revealing Dustin and the party, as well as Max. “What’s up?”, Dustin asked, “What’s up is I want to know what’s in that ghost trap”, she motioned to Dustin’s D.I.Y ghost trap that was moving on the table. “Wait-he’s your brother?!”, Max questioned, “Yeah, told you you were out of his league”, (Y/N) smirked. “Hey! Wait! Do you two know each other-”, Dustin said, shocked. “Does that really matter now? We all want to know what’s in the trap!”, Max stated. “Yeah!”, the rest of the party shouted, along with (Y/N).
Dustin opened the trap, and a small slug-like creature crawled into his hand. “Isn’t he cute?”, Dustin smiled, more like disgusting. “Dartanian?”, Mike questioned, (Y/N) assumed that was his name. “Dart for short”. The group unwillingly passed Dart around, grimacing at the slimy texture. Back in Dustin’s hands, he explained his discovery. Saying that Dartanian was probably some sort of polywog that hadn’t been discovered yet. Though Dustin was excited about his new friend, (Y/N) was worried. The so-called “pollywog”, made (Y/N) feel uneasy.
(Y/N) remembered last year, when Nancy, her and Johnathan, were off in the woods trying to find the demogorgon, she had heard very similar noises to Dart in the upside-down. The three of them had split up, which was probably a bad idea in itself. While Nancy had discovered the gateway in the tree, (Y/N) discovered another on her own. It was through a small cave, and, for some unknown reason, (Y/N) thought it was a good idea to go inside. Before she knew it she was alone, in the upside-down. On the other side, Jonathan had already helped Nancy escape. (Y/N) was absolutely terrified. The place was cold, dark and desolate. She turned around to find the gateway, but it had closed up. There was no way out. The screeches of unworldly creatures filled her ears, and she couldn’t help but scream. The roar of something big could be heard from behind her, and she turned around. The demogorgon. She ran as fast as her legs could take her, she needed to find another way out. Luckily she did, and she pushed through. The demogorgon had just missed her.
The gateway she had found, opened up to a small creek. She dipped her hands in the water, rubbing them on her face. Her breathing was so loud, and her heart was thumping up against her chest. Staring down at her clothes, she saw that she was covered in slime. She probably looked awful. All she wanted to do was go home and take a shower. Heading over to where they had parked, (Y/N) noticed that Johnathan’s car was gone. They had left her there. They didn’t even think of looking for her. Right then, she started crying again. How could they have left her? She hopped on her motorcycle, and headed home. She could yell at them in the morning.
She was late for softball practice, and didn’t get a chance to change into her uniform. (Y/N) was lucky she was at least in her gym uniform, but you couldn’t exactly play proper softball in a tennis skirt. She at least quickly had a chance to grab her baseball cap, so it looked like she was somewhat prepared. When she entered the gym, the rest of the girls stood in a horizontal line. “Ah co-captain! Glad you can make it”, Agelina said. “Where's the coach?”, (Y/N) wondered. “She couldn’t make it today, you're lucky she didn’t make it or else you would’ve gotten a uniform penalty”, Angelina chuckled. “Well, considering the coach isn’t around and we have two extra practices next week for next Friday’s game, I think we all deserve a free practice, what do you say Angel?”, (Y/N) suggested to Angelina. “But (Y/N/N), don’t we need all the practice we can get?”, Angelina replied. One of the girls, Lily, raised her hand. “Yes, Lily?”Angelina asked. “Well co-captain and some other girls and I had a chance to practice third period during gym”, Lily explained. “Is that so? Well those of you who practiced with the co-captain can head home, the rest of you will run a few drills with me for the remainder of the period”. Angelina really knew how to take charge.
Two free periods and (Y/N) didn’t know what to do with herself. She knew one thing, she’d take a shower and get changed. So, she grabbed her normal clothes, and headed to the locker room to take a shower. At Hawkins High, there were showers and changing rooms separately for the girls and the guys, but they shared the same locker room. For what reason, (Y/N) didn’t know. Since a lot of the boys in the student body had no sense of privacy, she had caught many of them changing in the shared locker room instead of one of the changing rooms. Luckily, today, there were no unwanted dick viewings. She had the locker room to herself. Placing her bag in one of the lockers, she took some shampoo and conditioner out of the front pocket.
Slipping out of her gym uniform, she stepped under the warm water. She softly hummed Mötley Crüe’s, “Starry Eyes” to herself as she slipped her fingers into her hair. Knowing that no one was around, she couldn’t help but start to sing the lyrics.
She's got the power of a child in her eyes
She'll hold you like a man's supposed to be held”
She continued to sing the lyrics, lathering her hair in shampoo and conditioner. She imagined the guitar solo in her head, playing air guitar as she sang “Oh no!”. (Y/N) was probably enjoying her little self jam session too much. When the song had ended in her head; her brain had switched to another. Almost like a mixtape. This time it was Ramone’s; “Rock ‘n’ Roll Highschool”.
She totally got into it; dancing to her heart's content. (Y/N) grabbed the shampoo bottle; using it as a microphone as she sang the lyrics. Though unlike her first “performance”, someone was around. Not watching; but rather, listening. Billy.
During Billy’s fourth period, history, he had realized, or more so the teacher had pointed out; he had forgotten his textbook. He “thought” maybe he left it in the locker room. His teacher dismissed him to go get it.
He knew it wasn’t in the locker room. Since when does Billy Hargrove actually bring his textbooks to school? Billy saw this as an opportunity to ditch class; and the locker room was a perfect place for a smoke break. He entered the locker room; laying on the nearest bench. Taking a cigarette from his jacket pocket; he lit it, taking a puff. It took him a while to notice the faint singing from the girls shower room. He grinned. Billy had enough human decency to not peak; but, he did move a little closer to try and determine the mystery voice.
With his ear now propped on the door to the showers; he determined the voice to be none other than (Y/N)’s. Though her voice was familiar, Billy wouldn’t expect any other girl, not that he knew of, to be singing Ramones. He established that most of the girls here would probably perform Kajagoogoo or Hall & Oates type music in the shower. Never Ramones. With his listening; he was reluctant to notice that the floors were wet. He had started to jokingly dance to her singing; causing him to slip. He landed on the tiled floor in a loud thud.
Billy scrambled. He didn’t want to run into her; especially not like this. So, he quickly ran out of the locker room. (Y/N) heard the thud. It had startled her, making her turn off the shower. She grabbed a towel from the nearest hook, wrapping it around her. She opened the door, heading to her locker to get her clothes. When (Y/N) was at her locker, she noticed a familiar denim jacket laid out on the bench. One that wasn’t there when she got there. She searched the pockets to find anything that could indicate the owner; a pack of cigarettes and…a picture? On the back of the photo a heart was sketched on, in the middle it read; treasured memories, hopefully the next time we dance I won’t be wasted. (Y/N) flipped the photo to the other side; it was a picture of her and Billy. The night of the Halloween party, dancing in Tina’s living room.
She didn’t remember who had taken it. Maybe Tommy took it and gave it to Billy this morning. It almost warmed (Y/N)’s heart, making her blush. Though she soon scoffed, having remembered this morning, she quickly shoved the picture back into the jacket. Now that she knew it was Billy’s jacket; and how creepy it was that he was in the locker room while she was in the showers next door, she needed to return it to him.
School was let out. She’d need to find Billy and give him his jacket; or perhaps find Max when she picked up Dustin, and give it to her instead. When she left the building; Max happened to be passing by. (Y/N) ran to her, explaining what had happened and handing her the jacket. Max nodded, taking the jacket and heading to Billy’s car. (Y/N) leaned against the school, tugging on her letterman. She patiently waited for Billy to pull out so she could get her bike. He soon did; and she headed to her bike.
(Y/N) cranked the volume on the radio. She made her way to the middle school, Dustin was patiently waiting on the steps. His face lit up when he saw her. He ran to the bike. “Hey Dusty! And..Dart?”, (Y/N) half smiled, motioning to his backpack. Dustin laughed. He put his helmet on and hopped onto the back. “How was your day?”, (Y/N) asked her brother as they started to drive. “Nothing much has happened since lunch, you?”. “I made up with Steve”, (Y/N) sighed. “I didn’t know you were fighting with Steve”, Dustin said, confused. “Well we're not anymore”, (Y/N) chuckled. “And Billy?”Dustin inquired. “Not important”.
They pulled into the arcade parking lot. (Y/N) knew Dustin would be trying to beat Max’s score on Dig Dug the whole time; so she’d do her favourite game; Dance, Dance, Revolution. Her favourite song to play on DDR was, “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell. She’d hate to brag, but she was a master at the game. They made their way into the arcade, and she went straight to the machine. (Y/N) placed two quarters into the machine, though before she could start the game; she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around. It was Steve. He had a big smile on his face. “Care for another player?”, he asked. (Y/N) smiled, nodding her head. If (Y/N) was a master at DDR, she was even better with Steve around. They had even made routines to all the songs. Steve put two more quarters into the game, stepping onto the pad, preparing to dance.
As the song started; their bodies moved in sync. (Y/N) felt so free around Steve, especially now that she had figured out to appreciate him as a friend, and nothing more. It also helped that he had stopped hanging out with jerks like Tommy H, and the old Steve that she knew was shining through again. The second song that “Somebody’s Watching Me” moved into was, “Hold Back the Rain” by Duran Duran. She’d never admit it, but despite her rocket style; she loved Duran Duran. Who was she to deny John Taylors attractiveness? Also, it was impossible to not like Duran Duran. “Hey Stevie, it's someone with better hair than you!”, (Y/N) joked, referring to John Taylor. Steve scoffed, “No one could beat these locks, not even John Taylor”. (Y/N) rolled her eyes. For someone who portrayed himself to be so macho, Steve sure was defensive when it came to his signature quality.
Steve and (Y/N) danced to a few more songs, then went to go find Dustin. Sure enough, he was playing Dig Dug. (Y/N) placed a hand on Dustin’s shoulder, “Beat MAD MAX yet?”, she asked. Dustin groaned. (Y/N) had broken his concentration. “I would’ve if you hadn't distracted me!''Dustin yelled angrily. Steve laughed. “No need to be dramatic little buddy”, Steve said, ruffling Dustin’s hair. “Says the guy who refuses to admit that John Taylor has better hair than him”, (Y/N) smirked. Steve scowled at her, “Okay enough with that”. (Y/N) told Dustin it was time to go, explaining that their mom was probably waiting. They said bye to Steve and made their way home.
If I’m being honest, I didn’t think I’d continue this series, but after along while, I decided to post chapter 3. I have so many ideas on where I’m going to take this, and I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! As always feedback is appreciated & if you want to be added to the tag-list comment down below! ❤️
