Like remember how in Fly Boy in the Sky we were told that Eiji needs glasses but doesn’t wear them because he feels shy?? But at the party where he shot at Golzine he was all about that glasses on hair slicked back look

I’m just saying he might have been in danger almost the entire time but Eiji genuinely found himself in New York with Ash

It’s such a shame he lost basically all of that After

What I love so much about this is not just Eiji's love and loyalty, nor is it just Ash's expression of "dang, he really do like me frfr"

It's the "that is, if you don't mind" part.

Even while declaring love and devotion, Eiji is STILL seeking Ash's consent and always letting him know that, with Eiji, he always has a choice.

It reminds me of the scene where Ash vows to protect Eiji (episode 18)

And the hospital scene in episode 23

In both situations, I was expecting Ash to make physical contact with Eiji; maybe touching his hair or face or something sweet like that. But he doesn't! And it could be his usual "I don't wanna taint him with my evil hands" self-loathing, but I also think it could be that, even though his touch would most likely be welcomed by Eiji, he probably didn't want to touch him without his permission or consent.

This also makes me wonder if he felt bad about The Kiss, since he didn't ask Eiji's permission, and they weren't even familiar enough with each other at that point for him to take a chance like that, plus it was so public. I do appreciate the anime version of it, because, at the very least, he was a bit more tender about it, and gave Eiji somewhat of an out to reject it

As opposed to the manga where he just grabbed his face and kissed him

Anyhoo, I just wanted to touch on how important consent is with these two, especially in a series where majority of the villains are like "Consent??

ok but what REALLY gets me about harley and ivy growing old together is that joker becomes such a negligible footnote in harley's life story. in the present, she's still struggling to step out of his shadow-- in the eyes of so many fans (and in various media depictions) she's still 'joker's girlfriend'. her character's independence from him is really only a few years old -- literally just one year for movie-only fans.

we're never told how long their relationship actually lasts, i don't think, but let's give it five years at the most. for a woman in her early thirties just climbing out of the abyss of an abusive relationship, that feels so long. she defined her life by that man and now it's like she has to start over from scratch, and both in-universe and out people still don't fully see her as an independent woman (see her friends gossipping about how she'll be running back to him in birds of prey.)

BUT THEN. WITH IVY. she spends the REST OF HER LIFE with ivy. that's, what, fifty years? ten times as long as her relationship with joker. she and ivy build a life together, their relationship reaches depths harley couldn't have imagined with joker. they save each other, they complete each other. they share everything. for fifty years.

joker's left as a bad memory that she barely even bothers reflecting on, anymore. she thinks about how she used to be so head over heels for him and cringe-laughs. ('oh. ew. did i talk about him the entire time?')

any power he had over her is long gone. he's nothing to her. he's dust. the defining relationship in her life isn't with him, it's with ivy.

fifty years, man.

I watched this show start to finish and I was actively keeping up with it waiting every week for the next episode and I can not articulate how beautiful it was to see them actually go through with making them canon (around the same time CatraDora became canon too i mean jab bhagwaan deta hai chappar phaad ke deta hai amirite?)

I shipped them in the first season but with Kiteman around I let it go but then the trailer for the second season dropped and they were teasing stuff and I thought it was just queerbait BUT THEN THE KISS HAPPENED AND OHMYGOD I DID NOT SEE IT COMING

And it just

It meant a lot

Because early in the second season it looked like they were going with the love is real actually route and I was worried they would make Harley either end up with Joker again after all the growth she had gone through or give her a happily hetero ever with some random guy

But they subverted my expectation in the best possible way???

I have,,, so many feelings about this show,,,,, that I will articulate properly,, sometime in the soon,,,,

hot take: i never saw the common idea that ash saw eiji as this ideal of innocence that needs to be protected at all costs. no disrespect if you have that view! this is just an enby airing out their thoughts

idk when i watched their scenes together, i always got the impression ash was well aware eiji was a flawed, reckless, headstrong little tank of a man who cared deeply for him, and was determined to make eiji feel like him being around wasn’t a burden, despite it being very ill-advised. 

because at the end of the day…. ash is a kid. he just wanted to have the boy he loved around. that’s human nature. 

the latter end of the anime, ash never got a chance to recover from the intense paranoia that blanca forced him into. blanca stalks him? bam, he gives himself up so he stops trying to LITERALLY kill eiji. then blanca doesn’t agree to leave eiji alone. then he’s brought out of it, blinded, and eiji still runs into danger to protect him and he’s panicking when cain holds him back. then, FINALLY, after a traumatic assault, he’s finally with eiji again…. only for eiji to be shot. 

it isn’t that ash treated eiji like a child, or wanted to coddle him. yoshida just never let him have that narrative of recovery toward the end of the manga. it was event after event after event. having that conga line of trauma, it fucks with your head. no wonder he was so down on himself in the “he’s better off without me” scene with fuckface mcgee (blanca) at the end of the show. 

narratively, he was never allowed that peace that he got with the “forever” scene again, after the “will you come to japan with me” talk. he gets a few scant moments, but not a night of relief. 

and i think that’s the real tragedy; that this abuse victim never got that ending he craved.

to me, ash never treated eiji as this ideal of innocence and perfection. he was well aware eiji was human, with his own light and dark. and he loved him anyway, because despite all that went on around him, eiji was good to him and others.

Answer: Oooh that’s a good question. I listen to just about every genre, and my “favorite song” changes all the time. I think I’ll go with Masterpiece Theatre III by Marianas Trench. It’s a 7 minute song and has references to a lot of their other songs, plus they’re my favorite band, so I don’t think I’d get bored of it very easily.
