Hey I'm sure some of you already have novels about this but I'm just thinking about Eliot's timeline. I just noticed in his speech about Toby, it sounds like it was fairly early in his career -- out of the army, he says as if he means fresh out and not sure what he's doing, second PMC he says and crossing the line, as if crossing the line is still maybe new to him, and he meets Toby and he spends a couple months with him and he credits that with stopping him "from falling all the way down."
Except I don't see any room for Moreau in that story. So he didn't stop because he met Toby. He even got worse after that. Moreau came after that. But it still meant he had something else, something that let him feel things, something that was still there even when he did hit bottom and because of it he was able to come out of it.
That's honestly so much more believable. Kind of reminds me of the insistence on not having Nate have a full recovery arc. Reality is messier than that. "I met a chef and found meaning in life and quit killing people" would be just as much of a cheesy unbelievable thing as "I learned the power of friendship and quit drinking." But it's so hopeful to say that that seed could be planted even years earlier and could be powerful enough later to save you when you were ready.
Platform Decay. Unsustainability. -
Yo shout out to all those sci-fi artists cus this shit difficult. The small description of the planet was so jarring it immediately stuck inside my brain and i had to doodle about it. not sure which version i like better, space or the window.
[Image Description. A drawing of some scenery from Platform Decay, a part of the Murderbot Diaries. The planet shown is dead. it is cracked into pieces and slowly falling a part. The planet is a mix of brown, yellow, blue and green colors with a variety of pot marks, cracks and ridges along the surface. all around the planet is the torus, made of different shaped modules that reach mostly around the planet, there is a part that is not there, which lets in light to the middle of the planet. the stars shine in the void of space. End ID]
it’s a good thing that hardison is a snuggles after sex kinda man bc if he thought his two beloveds were at maximum velcro capabilities already outside of sex, BZZZTTT 🚨 wrong 🙅♀️🚫 usually parker does force them all into the shower first at least bc she doesn’t like being sticky/messy, but after that once they’re all in fresh PJs and tucked into fresh sheets her and eliot are trying to climb inside hardison’s skin. parker’s happy but exhausted from the Activity™️ of it all and she needs to use her half of hardison as a comfy mattress to melt into and pass tf out on (the real mattress is Not good enough), and she also needs the grounding warmth and nice smells of his soap and cologne to even her back out. eliot’s maybe still a little subspace-y and out of it today so he needs to use his hardison half to curl up into and hide in a little bit until he comes back to himself. other times he’s just sleepy and blissed out and he rubs and cuddles all over hardison like a drunk puppy while he smiles to himself bc he’s just so haaaappyyyyy mmmmmm<3 (his fucked-out words, not mine). parker’s also winding all her limbs around him like she’s part cat and part octopus, and she’s nibbling on his thumb as a self-soothing kinda thing. eliot’s maybe butting the top of his head against hardison’s jaw to ask for hair pets (he thinks he’s being cool and subtle—he’s not). meanwhile hardison’s trapped in the middle of the bed trying not to explode with joy bc his sweeties are the absolute worst kinds of barnacles and if he could eat them whole he would
started s1e8 of almost paradise where the conceit is that alex bodyguards a famous country music star for ~reasons~ and unless there's a Very Good Reason later that it was someone else's idea, i am Convinced that kai and ernesto came up with it
these are my their reasons:
they're both american (they can annoy each other for a change!)
alex needs to talk to/be around human beings other than tourists, and if he won't do it voluntarily, bought is fine
alex has to have heard of this guy, and he liked the other famous guy he worked with. maybe they'll get lucky a second time!
they have upbringing in common, don't they? alex has a southern accent right? and this guy's a country singer! country singers are southern, right? (hold on let me google this--)
it's been too long between cases. alex is going to start stalking suspected unfaithful husbands or throwing annoying guests into the ocean or something if he doesn't get a chance to use his skills in a constructive way. he needs enrichment
nobody in the station wants to be this guy's bodyguard. hell they'll chip in a little towards alex's fee if it means they don't have to babysit a celebrity!
alex needs money. alex always needs money
Oooohhhhhhhh my god ohmygod OHHHHHMYYYYY GOOOOOOOODDDDDDDD fucking Nathan Ford sacrificing himself for his team as he’s hiding a fucking GUNSHOT WOUND and Sophie came back and saved them and Eliot and Hardison were like 😦 MOMS BACK????? And Parker HUGS her i cannot fucking handle this my god i hate all of you
AND THEN Nates lying there BLEEDING OUT and says Im Nathan Ford and Im a thief?!?!!??!!!!!! BUDDIES WTF THIS ISNT COOL MY HEART CANT HANDLE THIS
looper
I honestly don’t know what to do, other than sign that petition, but I feel like everyone is just resigning to Leverage: Redemption being over. I’m really upset but there’s not much I can do other than make this post. No one is even talking about it apart from Gina Bellman who posted a tweet saying Goodbye to Sophie. I’m devastated.
I can’t even send the petition to all the people responding to her tweet because you have to be verified on Twitter to send direct messages to people who don’t follow you. I don’t know what to do.
Turns out, I can't even login to my Twitter account. So, if you have a Twitter account you can access please go on it and at least share the petition under some fans posts and goodbyes to the show!
Renew Leverage: Redemption for a 4th season
Actually: Game Time! Every character gets one fuckword in the whole original series. Where do you put it? ex. i just put in a vote for nate to say “i fucked up” instead of “screwed up” during his performance in the Long Goodbye Job
Nate gets his in the long goodbye job as stated previously. obviously.
breanna gets hers in her speech at the end of the card game job
Harry gets his in his "i want them to suffer" breakdown in the too many rembrants job
Parker gets hers either when she's threatening to drop tara off the roof or when she's arguing with astrid on the roof in redemption. i forgot the episode names
Sophie. my first thought was in the flashback where she gets shot by Nate. or if one of her grifts cursed like a sailor for literally no reason. (my vote is her grift in the polygeist job)
Hardison. he should have so many but i have to either give it to the rundown job when he says he's scared right before eliot grabs his neck. Or the grave danger job so he can curse as he's freaking out
I have multiple i would give Eliot. but Eliot should say fuck at the very beginning of the double edged sword job during the debrief when he walks in. "What's up parker where's she at right now" -> "where the fuck is she"
honorable Eliot mentions: big bang job 'worst thing i've ever done' speech and the 'serve your head on a platter' threat in the french connection job.
these are all excellent takes, however I would like to submit that Eliot, instead of any of the very legitimate places he could be doing emotionally-charged swearing, should get to complete the die hard quote in the radio job
YESSSSZ
No, Nate uses his in… is it the ho ho ho job? The one where he confesses he failed to do his job. Giving it to him in the Last Goodbye just lets it be part of the act. I want a real “fuck”. (Other short list options: helicopter love confession to Sophie; screaming at Blackpool about sleeping in his car in front of Maggie; admitting he would have blown his fucking brains out to a Maggie; rescue my fucking wife from prison.. Eliot taking him away from Sophie’s bomb… okay, so I want Nate to use fuck from love, you get the idea.) (side note, shout out to the possibilities at the end of the radio job, whether when talking to his dad on the phone, or when he first argues with him)
Parker’s fuck should be over something non-emotionally interpersonal. It could be a comedic one - that could be fun (“what? I thought that’s what we were talking about?”) maybe as in “okay, Sophie and Nate are fucking. Anyway, what’s next in the heist?”). Could be when she asks Eliot to kill the psychic though. Or in the ice cave. That would work.
I definitely vote for Eliot in Radio Job. Imo he has too much control to slip and his character doesn’t swear. So it needs to be something purposeful. I’d consider the rundown job when he convinces Hardison to help, though. To give it to him while he’s “playing hitter” undermines its power.
Hardison: first time Parker pushes him off a building.
Sophie’s interesting. If I stick with my “no character” rule - I want it to be THEIR fuck, not a role they’re playing, there’s a lot less opportunities for her, by nature of being a grifter. Waking up in Nate’s bed in San Lorenzo? When she sees Nate at her door in London -“Fuck. Who died?”? In response to Parker not escaping from the Steranko famine building (forgotten the job name)? Most of the time she bickers with Nate doesn’t suit - she’s not truly worked up. Maybe the “what the fuck was that” scene defending Parker that’s doing the rounds at the moment. Maybe her monologue about weddings early season 1? That could be a fun one…
I forgot to say!!!!! When I actually wanted Parker’s fuck!!! Which is the broken wing job. It is frustration at her body failing her. Maybe in the vent, maybe when she forgets and has to hop around in frustration. But that’s my dream Parker “fuck” point.
Let's go steal a pizza pie.
hardison spends the episode being Insufferable and accidentally bonding with the mark because they both have the exact same insufferable opinions about pizza toppings. this allows him to grift the bastard without even trying and sophie is genuinely upset because shes been waiting to grift this clown for like five years (he ruined her attempt at pulling off the South Ivan Shuffle! its like the West Ivan, but you frame the mark for embezzlement instead of tax evasion) and hardison is STEALING it from her
elliot inevitably gets Too Into being a pizza chef and starts complaining about how the pizza pie company uses terrible ingredients and that he could make a far better pizza if they just let him. at one point the episode stops so he can show the viewer his personal pizza recipe.
I know Eliot's single-con "baseball career" was too short for this to actually make sense, but I have a sudden delightful mental picture of pre-season 3 Damien Moreau sitting in some expensive cushy office, studying a Roy Chappell baseball card* in utter confusion, trying to figure out 1) whether that is actually Eliot Spencer and 2) if so...why?
*The baseball card of course features a photo of "Roy" smiling mid-game, hair at maximum floof.
You say this as if Hardison did not actually design a limited edition Roy Chappell baseball card and hack the Topps website to add it to the catalog. AND as if the limited edition Roy Chappell Topps cards didn’t sell out within an hour and promptly create mass chaos at Topps’ HQ because a) no one knows who this guy is and b) where are these cards and how are they going to ship things that don’t exist and c) 5-10 business days later: HOW are we getting reviews on the website about a product we did not ship to customers because we do not have?
I stand corrected. This is clearly what happened.
these are the things we're missing out on with streaming services instead of DVD's with bonus features.
Leverage: Redemption 1x6- "The Card Game Job"
i just think it’s really important that parker ended up with the two best huggers in the whole world bc she’s got a lot of hugs to make up for yknow. she was so alone and so lonely for so long. and now when she’s exhausted and maybe also a little overstimulated and she needs someone to ground her and wring all the bad feelings out of her, instead of trying to handle it by herself she can go find hardison and he’ll wrap her up in his long strong arms and squeeze her sooooooo tight against his big broad body, and he’ll tuck her face into the curve of his neck where it’s warm and nice and smells so good like sunshine and lemons and fresh air, and he’ll rock her side to side while he tells her it’s alright, baby, it’s okay, everything’s alright, you’re gonna be just fine, i promise you’re alright. or maybe he just hums something for her, something a little tuneless because he’s making it up on the spot and he’s really only a quarter focused on it because the other three-quarters of him are focused on “how can i make parker feel better Right Now, how can i hold her, am i swaying her enough,” etc etc. and parker feels so safe because she knows that hardison will always be there to keep her warm and to chase all the bad stuff away, and as long as she’s got him she’ll always have somewhere quiet to rest
or if she wakes up from a bad dream where she was all alone again, working all by herself, no one else, just her, parker just parker, she can seek out eliot and he’ll tuck her in close and rub her back and say it’s okay, sweetheart, i’m right here, and he’s so sturdy to hold it’s like hugging a tree, you know neither of you are going anywhere. and he doesn’t really say much else, he just stands and breathes with her, and that’s okay—it’s enough to know he’s there. it’s enough to feel how present and real and alive he is, how he’s warm and solid but also a little squishy in his chest and his belly. his hand is steady and sure moving over her back, and his shirt is soft as it’s clutched in her fists, and his hair tickles her cheek and his stomach rises and falls against her own, and with every breath she remembers she’s not alone anymore. eliot will always be here to catch her and he won’t ever abandon her, he’s too loyal for anything else, and that stitches up something in her heart to know that
and god, if both of them get her at the same time?? heaven. heaven and a half. heaven times seven. hardison’s a sturdy pillar at her back keeping her upright and eliot’s a comfy cushion against her front, and she’s got hardison nuzzling into the side of her throat while eliot presses their cheeks together and occasionally kisses her jaw or her temple. and they smell like citrus and trees and sunshine and comfort and safety and sometimes she can’t help but cry a little, just a little, because now she’s got not just one person but two to spend forever with, two people to love and to be safe around, she’s got her boys, and as long as she’s with them?? she’s home.
HAPPY PLATFORM DECAY DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE
Platform decay moments that I can’t stop thinking about (here there be spoilers!!):
Murderbot making its drone do a loop de loop for the kids
When Tula was clinging to mb’s chest for a While and it was just letting her. The kids trust it so quickly and it’s so soft towards them and agh mb you’re so sweet
“So I collapsed down my ribcage” ??? Okay. Yeah alright sure
The fact that mb watched worldhoppers as well as sanctuary moon to make itself feel better. I see you missing your asshole spaceship bestie mb <3
Literally everything about Three. The awkward wave. “It can’t be a we problem?”. The fact that it was just fucking around on the station for that entire book doing who knows what and freeing other units. Three I love you I am sending you one million sparkly heart sigils
Mb losing its shit when they got to the torus zone that had no public transit at all. And I thought this series couldn’t get more relatable
Recognizing ART’s shuttle by saying it was like a familiar heartbeat. Maybe that’s how the feed always works but it was such a cute description
Everything that happened on the last page. It has FRIENDS and it LOVES THEM and it is LOVED IN RETURN
“Emotion check: Good, actually. Really good.”
In conclusion: 😭😭😭🥹😭🥹🥹🥹🥰🥹🥰🥰
parker is the one instantly interested in nate's ability to see the big picture. in the first ten minutes of the Nigerian job nate tells her how he knows the guards aren't at their station and she goes "I would've missed that." then at the end of the episode, she's the one that she's good at one thing, but he knows other things. she's always learning things from the others in a way no one else is. sometimes crime things, sometimes real life/social things, sometimes both. eliot teaches her to fight, sophie teaches her to grift, she doesn't hack, but she handles tech better than anyone but hardison. (eliot teaches her to like things, sophie teaches her how to have/be a friend, hardison teaches her to trust) she runs her own jobs, on her own, where the rest of the team never does. at first it doesn't work (the inside job) but then it does ( the broken wing job). obviously we see nate actually pull her into the planning in the long goodbye job in preparation for the ending, but she's been interested in learning from him, learning how to do what he does, since the very start. at first I think it was out of her self-preservation mindset, she didn't expect to have people to back her up, maybe ever. but even after she figures out they're sticking around, she won't have to run jobs alone, she keeps learning. from nate, from sophie, from eliot, from hardison, even tara. eventually, from harry. because of harry, from breanna. she accepts their input in a way nate never did, in a way nate never could. his "sicko love of control" wouldn't let him. but from the start, parker lets them teach her. and that carries over in the way she leads. she controls herself, never them. she makes the final call, but she wants input first. not because she can't make the decision herself, but because she sees the big picture in a different way than nate. she's watched the team save each other's skin over and over because one person noticed or knew something no one else did, and she knows she isn't always that person. they all grow so much in those first five years, and I don't know if I even think parker grew the most. but I do think she grew the most intentionally. she looked at all the others, saw what skills they had that she didn't, and decided she would learn.
