Aro and ace activism is healthcare reform, so that no one needs to rely on a spouse for health insurance, so that healthcare is available to everybody regardless of income, so that no one’s lived experiences or basic dignity are dismissed or overridden by doctors
Aro and ace activism is well-funded and expansive public transit, so that you don’t need to have someone on hand to drive you places if you are incapacitated, so that you don’t have to pay for an ambulance if you need to get to the hospital quickly
Aro and ace activism is disability and elder care services, so that no one needs a spouse to care for them, so that no one needs children to care for them, so that marriage is not a bind for disabled people, so that people on disability who want to and can live alone can
Aro and ace activism is community-building, it’s public events, it’s free social activities, it’s mutual aid, it’s activities that bring community members together without socializing relying on just a romantic partner
Aro and ace activism is developing a culture of believing when people tell you who they are and what they want rather than assuming you know them better than they know themselves
Aro and ace activism means a better world for people without “normative” desires or “normative” social support, which means a better world for everybody

The way Nate and Eliot let each other lie to each other is so important to me.
It’s quiet things, they’ll let each other keep their utterly see-through pretences and obviously hidden secrets, Nate will look away when Eliot is hurting so he can put himself back together alone, Eliot will trust Nate without answer if not without question and without either when that specific urgency creeps into his voice, they’ll ask but won’t push when something clearly hits too close to home letting them share what they want and ignoring the rest, they’ll let each other hide behind the job, with that mask of professionalism and duty because it lets them put whatever it is aside and not fall apart for a little longer.
There so much trust in it. they're trusting that if something was really actually important, they would share, and that they can handle themselves and eah other to catch one another if they can’t.
It builds so much trust, too. They’re in a crew of grifters and conmen and people who read people to survive, they’re constantly on display to people who can read them better than anyone and they’re so so used to hiding. Having that relationship where, yes, they can read each other better than almost anyone just like the rest of the team but at least they try to pretend they can't probalbly feels like safety to them.
But that relationship lets them confide in each other. They both talk to each other with a different honesty than they ever use with anyone else: Nate will tell Eliot things in this specific casual tone and Eliot will let him pretend like it really is casual and doesn’t mean everything, Eliot will tell Nate things with this knowing and this darkness in his voice and Nate will never make him tell more than he chooses to share, they’ll both tell each other things and know that anything they say will never leave the room.
it also lends real weight to the times they don’t let the other lie, when it’s like you have to acknowledge the situation, you have to accept help, you have to tell the crew something, they’ll listen to each other in a way they won’t to anyone else because they know it actually matters.
btw if you are friends with someone and you have the kind of dynamic where you can tease each other you also need to be nice. just so we're all aware. you also have to be nice with your words on top of it. like with your words. use your words. you should tell them with your words when you like something about them. if you are scared of being too sincere or vulnerable that is not an excuse to not be nice to someone. also you should work on that. ok are we all on the same page

"Christian Kane is in every TV show" factoid is actually a statistical error. The average TV show does not cast Christian Kane. Devlin Georg, who casts Christian Kane in every show he makes, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
it is tiring, being endless political just as someone existing. my teacher asks me if i’m writing more of that “feminist poetry.” a lot of it is just talking about me, being a woman, being afraid in the city. i write about walking a line, about how i am expected to choose between home and work, how each comes with a slew of its own insults; how it feels when i am wearing shorts and there are too many men outside. these are just facts of my life. someone in the comments says, “where are woman even coming up with these crazy generalizations in their feminism?”
i hold hands with the prettiest girl i’ve ever seen and someone sighs when they see me. “do they have to make everything gay?” she asks her friend, loudly, “like, do you have to force those views in my face all the time?” i can’t stop blushing. my girlfriend holds my fingers tighter, tighter, tighter, until my knuckles are white, and i let her. somehow, this is us, protesting.
my father’s cuban blood stains my skin, i think. when i am honored with a position in the dean’s private council, a boy sneers, “you only got in because you’re hispanic.” did i? i spend the rest of our meetings wondering if i was selected for my stellar academic record, for the multiple recommendations, for the clubs i lead - or if i was just a move the dean made, to make use of me. when we all take a picture, the dean brings me in the front. in the first three we take, i am not smiling.
it is odd. “i exist.” i say, “i deserve to exist.”
“oh my god,” he groans, “we get it, you’re a feminist.”

literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.

i have a personality flaw that always positions me on the side of characters who are hiding everything and refuse to accept help. like do NOT confide in people. confiding in people is the enemy. REAL winners lie and lie and continue lying until they ruin every single thing theyve got going for them & didnt fix a single goddamn thing. keep digging grandpa youre almost there
stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.
