I’m sorry if I just can’t bring myself to sympathize with men who wish violence upon women and go so far as to encourage it among their peers. I find it difficult to see eye to eye with someone who wants to control my every sexual decision, and if I do not bend to his will, he will kill me. 

I can acknowledge that the patriarchy affects everyone, and capitalism plays a role in how incels view the world as well, but we have to ask ourselves how a subset of mostly white men are going so far as to idolize violent murderers who commit acts of hate against women because they feel entitled to their body.

Do these men hate themselves? Yes, and that is the fault of the culture that surrounds us. The culture that also impacts women, far more so than men. It sucks, and feminists are doing all we can to combat it, but these men are choosing misogyny, a lot of them a lot easier than others.

Their hatred of women runs deep, a lot more than their dissatisfaction with themselves.

I agree that the specific culture surrounding dating is often toxic and scary, but I would argue that dating isn’t the issue for most of the men who call themselves incels. They don’t just want to date women, they want to control every aspect of their being and are willing to become violent to do so.

The incel does not just want to date, he wants to date the “Stacy,” he wants the exceedingly hot woman that he feels entitled too, and most of the time in his mind Stacy is blond, white, thin, and cis. We should have a discussion about dating and how young men navigate it, without dismissing how much their hatred of women plays a role. Incels actively reject women who do not adhere to a particular stereotype, the hot cheerleader. 

The majority of them turn their noses up at average girls, so we can’t just say an incel is an incel due solely to self-loathing when I would argue misogyny is the primary factor, self-loathing is a close second.

I work at a coffee shop and have gotten all my co-workers to start calling lattes “hot milkybois”

Our largest drink size is affectionately referred to as “Texas Size” so sometimes when I hand it out in the drive-thru I like to say, “Here’s that TEXAS SIZE [drink] for ya, YEEEEHAW!”

And some people look at me as though I have just made their entire day while others look like they they could not possibly get away from me soon enough. Both reactions are equally satisfying.

I made this into a game except when I hand out the Texas-size drinks I say “Can I get a YEEHAW?” And the guests always look mortified but occasionally one of them will let out a terrified “yeehaw” and all my coworkers cheer and then we keep a running tally of how many yeehaws we each get on the back of a pastry bag.

the reason these exist (iirc) is because peppa pig is banned in china for “promoting gangster attitudes”: peppa was popular (for whatever reason) with “shehuiren” (anti-establishment internet users), who made a lot of memes involving peppa and even got tattoos of her because it’s funny. the result of banning peppa is that shehuiren-types liked peppa even more afterwards, and now she’s a bit of a counterculture symbol in china. hence these shirts.
