ok actually. on that last post: it really is a shame that post-MVA the villain characters lost all agency they had within the story. literally just mouthpieces for arcs that aren't theirs, and then killed off when they had served their purpose and just to cap it all off they are really framed as useless in the grand scheme of things (the hero rankings are still there, the HPSC remains, nothing *major* is shown to have really changed). this also ties into the lack of consequence the leagues most powerful players had (dabi, spinner, shigaraki, and toga all not really killing off any notable characters beyond a handful, and even then the reactions to which were lackluster at BEST) in the war arc, where they stop feeling like 'characters with a chance that will have good payoff' and go on to feel more like 'stand-in villain for the heroes to defeat so stop being invested now' and to come so soon after MVA, after dabis dance, even, it is WILD tonal whiplash!!!!!! and it really fucking sucks not only for villain fans but it reduces the heroes' '''''win''''' to a guarantee and cheapens the story for the hero fans!!!!!!!! everybody loses!!!!!!!!!!

The Dabi/Frankenstein's monster parallel probabably being intentional is kinda another "Hori just copying things on a surface level without actually understanding The Deeper Themes and WHY it all works" innit? He copies it SO hard complete with Dabi burning himself to death in a fire in the end like the Monster says he's gonna in the original novel but to actually do Frankenstein's Monster requires feeling genuine sympathy for the outcast and understanding that an injustice occurred even as he lashes out dangerously.

Hell, you could have copied it beat for beat where Endeavor is mortally wounded and they have a last conversation where he finally expresses genuine contrition, Dabi realizes the emptiness of revenge and that he doesn't feel any better, and THEN walks off and torches himself with his powers and you'd STILL have a slightly less shitty ending for the story arc than the canon one (though still not one I'd have loved)

He created life when he was 20-21 and mentally unstable, running away from his creation was a huge mistake but he also was genuinely scared. Why the Quirk Singularity disappoints me

The Quirk Singularity could have been this amazing biological ticking time bomb, but Hori....sidelined it. Quirks via mixing and breeding, would get exponentially stronger to the point where the human body likely wouldn't be able to handle it. The younger the kid, the stronger the Quirk. How do you fight your own DNA? Your own Quirk? You can't punch DNA or a Quirk (usually), so how would you fight it? Gene therapy? Mandated Quirk supressors? Anti-Quirk marriages to dilute Quirk genes?

Horikoshi gave us potential glimpses of what the Singularity could look like—Dabi's body failing, Shigaraki's decay evolving, Eri's uncontrollable rewind—but by keeping the Singularity as background lore, he avoided having to dismantle the classic superhero genre he was working in.

He set it up and abandoned it. And that's just bad writing.

At least Vigilantes is smaller scale and more contained. Trigger is simpler and easier to manage thematically.

With how bad the villain's endings were and how every systemic change in hero society was so easily handwaved or ignored completely, now I find the inevitable quirk singularity doomsday quite comforting.

dabi using a hug to burn shoto is so interesting because he is a long-range fighter like this proximity to shoto was not needed, but he did it anyway because dabi's attacks are all emotional and his offense tells us so much about the men he fights (endeavor shoto hawks).

dabi vs hawks is so good because it's all about debasement. i love how easily dabi overpowers hawks (seme), how he stomps on his face and his back like it's soo different from how he fights his brother and father, this is pure hatred and humiliation there is no desire for connection he just wanted to pluck that chicken and humble him #yaoi

Gotta love how the biggest encompassing flaw of the League is their collective inability to shut the fuck up.

Tomura, Himiko, Dabi, and Spinner all just trauma dump in the middle of their fights and can't keep going with the same vigor when they're shown genuine understanding or compassion.

All For One is practically asking people to damage his ego until he goes insane.

God knows how much sensitive information Twice told Hawks without flinching.

Skeptic didn't listen to basic internet safety and told an internet troll his triggers.

Muscular single-handily made the training camp raid way harder than it needed to be.

So did Compress actually- he literally just could have bailed the second he had Tokoyami and Bakugou. The others took forever to notice they were gone.

How Horikoshi feels after making the League of Villains metaphors for the cycle of abuse and how victims and the mentally ill are treated in society just to kill them all of in the most ironically horrible ways

Like wdym we spent multiple full length chapters learning about how Shigaraki was abused just to accidentally kill his family before being basically kidnapped, groomed, and psychologically tormented by the literal manifestation of evil just to be killed by him in the end??

Wdym we followed multiple counts of the Todoroki family’s suffering at the hands of Endeavor, learning how the selfish desires of one man ruined the lives of five other ppl and how he turned his son Touya to a life as a murderous villain just for him to be forced to survive past his natural lifespan so that Endeavor could force Touya to talk to him to feel better abt himself??

Twice dies alone after finally finding a family who accepted him. Mr. Compress and Spinner joined the league to be less alone, and are now going to spend the rest of their lives alone in jail mourning their friends’ deaths.

Even Toga, who had the most arguably “satisfying” conclusion, only did so because she sacrificed herself, a choice she made. Even then, it adheres to the idea that the mentally ill are the ones who must change in order to fit society. Even if Uraraka understood Himiko and was willing to help her, Toga still died a villain in the eyes of society

I understand that they’re villains and they won’t get a happy ending, and that death is the easiest way to finish a characters story, but literally what was the point of it all? What was the message Horikoshi was trying to convey? That victims and ppl who suffer from mental illness are villains and are bound to die or rot in jail/psych wards? That abusers will always win over their victims? The villains were thoroughly fleshed out and made to be empathized with, just to kill them all off? Lazy writing imo

Tbh this ending hurt me a lot and made me realize that no matter what I do people will only see me for my mental illness and as a horrible person. And people agreeing with the ending makes me angry cause it feels like they believe I deserve to die due to this illness I didn’t ask for
