Being a notorious robotlover in the current state of "AI" is the worst. I love robots discovering how they process their feelings in fiction, but when a chatbot pretends it knows how to love it feels like an insult to the craft
if the eutychia crew were played by muppets, robin would be played by kermit, tyche would be played by gonzo, steve would be played by fozzie bear, and the captain would be played by a muppet i just made up which is ms piggy's nonbinary cousin mx piggy
Goal: During the month of September, make one (or more) zine of any quality, that is in some way related to fiction podcasts. You can share it using the tag #fiction podcast zine event
On Zines: A zine is a paper booklet that can function as art or an informational pamphlet. These are traditionally very cheaply made and hand-folded.
Zine vs Art Book: Sometimes, fandom or personal projects function under the title "zine" to produce glossy, professionally printed projects. These are more often elaborate, gorgeous group art efforts, and more art books than true zines. You could make one of these if you really wanted to, but I'd encourage you not to, and instead spend just a spare hour (quick), afternoon, or weekend (long) on it.
What should it be about? Whatever you want, so long as it is related to fiction podcasts! Click here for a list of suggestions, or ignore those entirely.
What medium should I use? Literally whatever you like. Hand-drawn/written zines that can be photocopied are traditional, but digital art or documents are fine too. You could experiment physically with all kinds of mediums, too.
Do I have to make them printable to contribute? You do not! While I'd encourage you to if you're able, you can also just make one for yourself.
I want to make something, but it won't be very good. Do it anyway.
I don't own a scanner/printer/copier but would like to make use of one. Any suggestions? Associates who work in offices and schools might be willing to scan or print them for you. You can also check your local library, post office, corner store, and university (in that order, probably). The first three will often charge a small fee for printing, rarely more than 20c, the last will definitely charge a fee higher than that.
Hey, I've got something to add! Let me know! If you have advice to give (to me or more generally speaking), or useful resources, I'd appreciate you sending it my way.

genuinely tho trans actors in fictional podcasts are so important.
the first thing you associate with this character is their voice. their voice and how they talk influences how you picture the character. how people interpret the character. and to hear a trans voice simply existing within that realm of fiction- not treated horribly, having friends, having a relationship with their siblings, having a job, making(a lot of) jokes, means a lot to me as a fan.
especially considering the pressure trans women face to have a cis sounding voice, to fit an ideal picture of womanhood, hearing billie hindle’s character be downright hilarious, well received by the fandom, and existing in contexts other than the butt of a joke or for the writers to preach at us.
I wholeheartedly agree, and I'd like to take a moment to shout-out some phenomenal shows (in no particular order) that have trans &/or nonbinary voice actors/ characters.
Camp Here and There (someone mentioned it in tags as well)
The Strange Case of Starship Iris
Transmission Folklore
Woe.begone
The Department of Variance of Somewhere, Ohio (and the semi-prequel series, The Dead Letter Office)
Moonbase Theta, Out
Valence
Breathing Space
400 Words a Horror (shamelessly plugging my own show, bc many of us are trans)
Yoooo, I'm a trans VA in several of these! (as well as my own show, of course 😉)
Voice acting not only helped me come to terms with my voice, but with my trans identity as well. Super grateful to all the audibly trans actors out there!
I love trans voices in audio dramas. I love when trans characters are voiced by trans actors and their voice isn't 100% passing. I love that said characters are never misgendered. I love how their voices sound beautiful and authentic. I love that their voces sound like mine our my friend's.
My friend, I have done casting for several shows, and I can tell you that perfect voices do not get a look in. If I'm casting for a character I want a voice that is fucking out there, a voice that you can pick out from a fucking kilometre away. Squeaky voice? Amazing! Weird speech impediment? As long as you're intelligible, let's fucking go! Odd cadence? I'll fucking run with it!
Like, yes, it also has to match the character, but I'm so often surprised by amazing, weird voices that I'm then wondering "who can I cast this weirdass voice as?". Don't cut yourself short before you've even put yourself out there.
Also psst, super secret - if no one will cast you, write your own damn audio drama! There are *so* many fiction podcast actors who made their own audio fiction just so they could get their voice out there, and it does, indeed, work!
”What if nobody likes my story?” Well do you like it? Your story will always have at least one fan. Write for yourself and the right audience will come along.
I’ve listened to well over 100 hours of podcasts from a lot of different genres so I’m gonna give you some recommendations. These will all be audio dramas so no ttrpgs or conversation podcasts. I’ll include a short description, the amount of episodes they have as I’m writing this (not including bonus content), if it’s finished, and probably my own little thoughts about it cus I have too many thoughts. Please feel free to add any podcasts you recommend that I didn’t include I’m always looking for more!!

That’s all I’m doing for this one I say as if this isn’t an insane amount. I have plenty more podcast recommendations if needed. Also turns out tumblr has a tag limit and it also just gets extremely glitchy on mobile when you add a lot of tags which isn’t surprising considering this is tumblr
Sometimes writing is like having an enormous lake in your head, and you want to get it out of your head and into a proper place for a lake so other people can come and go swimming and ride jet skis and stuff, except all you have to move the lake is a teaspoon. So you’re just sitting there frantically flinging water out of the lake with your teaspoon and telling people, “Guys, this lake is going to be so cool when it’s done,” but it will never be done. There is so much lake.
