Kafka wakes up after a few days, in the defence force's infirmary. He looks over to find a huge bouquet me flowers and a lot of fanmail. even the little plushie of no. Eight from the little girl he had first saved. "sir. You're making a habit of staying in the hospital like it's a luxury hotel!" Kafka looked up at him, "Reno!" "kid wanted to send it to Mr. Kaiju himself. She gave it to me during clean up, she remembers the both of us huh!" Reno sat in the chair next to the bed, "should we decorate the place to feel more like it's lived in sir?" "argh kid, you're acting like I wasn't blitzed through the chest!" "yeah about that! You scared all of Japan, pulling a stunt like that! " "WHAT ELSE COULD I HAVE DONE RENO!?" "NOT TRAUMATISE EVERYONE?! I DUNNO!!" "LISTEN HERE KID" Kafka jumped up, and the blankets flew up, and he saw his naked body. Except he wasn't naked, he was stuck in a limbo transformed state, with his privates covered by kaiju scales. "AH!? THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I WOKE UP AS A KAIJU!?" he spun around and saw a tail, "what-" his large tail knocked over the monitoring equipment, the chair Reno sat on, then Reno. "ah! Sir! Calm down! Try to transform back!" Kafka strained. But the harder he tried the more spikes shot out of his spine, "IT'S NOT WORKING?" "uh, what if you did the opposite? try transforming into a kaiju!" Kafka tries to focus, honing in on the larva, and then he finds the larva is… smaller, underdeveloped, and snoring softly like a sleeping baby. Kafka opens his eyes, "uh oh" "sir? " Reno sat up cautiously, "is something wrong? " "the kaiju within me, is having a nap"

This is Iharu (ch 11) & this is Reno when he's pissed off (ch 8).

Conclusion: Iharu is Reno's true self. Reno so is falling for him, sooner or later.

Also, this is Iharu when he's pissed off (ch 11), fyi. His teeth becomes less regular.

Now, I know we all like the idea of treating Kafka's kaiju form like a giant Kitty Cat, myself included. I ain't ever gonna refute that.

BUT HEAR ME OUT.... Kafka growling like a gator when hes pissed.

Just the idea of Kafka fighting another kaiju and it starts growing at him, only for Kafka "Walk it Down" Hibino to pull this sound out from the depths of his chest and it actually makes the kaiju piss itself a little.

Even better situation- Fully human form Kafka standing in a room with a bunch of people and he sees someone get a little to close to someone he likes (Hoshina, Mina, Y/N if you're that way inclined.) And all you see is his eyes glowing teal and that low, primal growl echoing across the room as Kafka just death glares the intruder.

(Of course, pronouns don't necessarily equal gender and not having pronouns doesn't equal not having a gender either. And with the kaiju not being human and the sapient ones not necessarily knowing relatively irrelevant shit about humans like gender and gender expression if they did know about human gender and decided to have a human gender there's no way in hell any of these fuckers would be cis and any human gender for them would be a xenogender.

And we have no way of knowing if sapient kaiju even have genders since what sapient kaiju we see have been one-offs and the offspring of one of those one-offs with no indication that there's a kaiju people culture or anything that genders might arise from.

And most certainly human sexes do not apply to the kaiju whom we only have evidence of reproducing asexually for. )

Granted, I generally assume that:

-> no. 9 is a 'he' due to male default bs. Like the gender ratio in this comic, Kaiju no. 8, is heavily skewed towards dudes. Like, we've got 3 lady trainees with names and 5 dude trainees with names. And more than one instance of 2-3 guy platoon leaders for every 1 lady platoon leader.

I can easily see no9 interacting with human stuff in Japan and picking up male default language given that he also refers to no8 as a 'he' even tho he has zero reasons to consider no8 a he as no8 didn't seem to refer to itself with any kind of gender (granted its possible that in the Japanese no8 could have since I don't speak Japanese but am aware that some of the ways to refer to one'self in the first person can have masculine or feminine connotations)

and also we have human characters referring to no10 as a he even tho it's referred to as an it by the mangaka and the characters likely didn't ask and are just assuming given its build and deep voice. Which leads to more credence to the male default theory

-> no. 15 was most certainly assigned girl by her dad b/c she was molded on Shinomiya to be her dark mirror/to fight her. I highly doubt that no. 15 really had much choice on the matter or that no9 would approve of her deviating from what he decided for her by trying to pick other pronouns or alter what human gender her human form appears to be mimicking

-> no10 is a beastly brute who doesn't seem to give a singular fuck about shit outside of fighting. It could be being referred to as it for dehumanizing reasons b/c it's very much not human and not attempting to even approach being so. It could be an it b/c it doesn't give a flying fuck about something as irrelevant as gender. Hell, it could even be called an it b/c it's cis. We don't have enough info on kaiju in this setting to be definitive about most shit in regards to them.
