The amount of time I spent staring at Perpetua to get him right and I still think I am way off but progress is made. As for Copia, personally I will always see his Cardinal Copia look I decided to go ahead and design Papa Emeritus IV the way I see him no harm in a little change. Terzo got any sort of hat privilege taken away, I don’t think his height difference bothers him much anyway.

I wanted to do one of my big rambling posts today but my brain is scrambled - and oddly enough that led me down a rabbit hole of feelings about my blorbo's own scrambled brain

Cardi and his befuddled noggin are so fucking important to me.

He dissociates multiple times including an entire dream sequence in RHRN, but also in the chapters he is shown zoning out and losing the thread of the reality around him.

Cardi says words that are adjacent to the correct thing but not actually the correct thing: "main poncho", "I'm going to skiddle", his utter mangling of movie quotes you can tell he memorized but aren't coming out right.

His memory is full of little holes, forgetting what he is supposed to be announcing, forgetting Sister Imperator in her hospital room when it's time to wheel her out.

Cardi is also despite being graceful enough for sexy stage moves and ballet dancing, chronically clumsy - crashing his trike into an obvious wall, fumbling his juice box straw, tripping over boxes in his temporary office. His stammer is another of these charming physical hiccups.

It's played for a gag but there's even hints of auditory processing disorder in the chapter where he's talking with Mr. Psaltarian on the beach and needs Psalty to repeat himself.

idk I know it's frustrating when people portray him as a complete bumbling incompetent - I don't vibe with that interpretation of him at all, but it is very, very important to me that people do not forget the ways in which he is legitimately impaired. There's not a label or easy diagnosis for Cardi in canon but just as he isn't a complete doofus (despite me often calling him one affectionately) he's also not a hyper competent cunning Machiavelli like a lot of people want from the Cardinal era either - he is broken in ways that I and a lot of us other fans are broken and I know it's for comedy but it's still Very Important to me. It's Representation. It's comfort. It's seeing him neurotic and sputtery and forgetful and competent in some areas and hopeless in others and going "me too, pookie, me too."
