i think the fact that ilya loses the game after the tuna melt scene so horribly (that even the commentators are emphasizing that he just wasn’t on the ice). that he let his guard down so much that shane is defeating him on and off the ice. 1-0: listless effort, four shots on goal in the third period, and shane didn’t even react when ilya slammed him into the boards. all of this contributed to how the club scene goes down. he needs a win over shane, and he doesn’t mind getting dirty with it.
