❝ Didn't look like it, ❞ Sonic fires back.

He dashes towards a robot, and kicks its head straight into — goal! Another robot's torso! He jumps off its now inactive body, twirling in the air as bullets are fired in his direction.

He counts — one, two, three... a lot left. It's not unmanageable for him — could the same be said for Shadow, though? He'd have to take a closer look — but it still sucks he came during the wrap-up. Oh well, he takes what he gets. He hasn't had any excitement in a while anyway.

He touches the ground for a split second, then in a blink of an eye he's gone — leaving a gust of wind behind as he bashes a few more bots before returning to Shadow's side. That's when he sees how battered the other hedgehog is. Sonic saw the destruction while he was in the air — Shadow must've been fighting for a while.

He's definitely gonna handle the heavy lifting. Rub it in too — just while he's at it.

❝ How'd you get in this mess anyway? ❞

Scoffing could be heard in response. Grtitted bloody teeth and then a jump, swing, and CRUNCH ! from Shadow's shoe sends a crumpled robot hurtling for another. Shadow had been dealing with an onslaught of seemingly infinite robots going at it, AND Shadow had gotten distracted in the middle of the fight, leading him to be more beaten down than usual.

❛ I don't see how that's your problem. ❜ He tripped an Eggman alarm near this abandoned base, trying to stealth it. A trail of robots could be seen leading from the base, and the transgenic hedgehog's subsequent flight ahem I mean his tactical evasion.

Shadow ran forward and jumped into the air, rolling into a ball that quickly fell to the ground and swerved in an arc to send a couple of robots flying back. Unrolling into a kneeling position, he furrowed his brows and scowled towards Sonic.

Chaos control

An impact like that certainly draws some attention. Rather than let the citizens crowd around and mess with whatever potentially-alien thing had landed outside of the city, Syphon decided to jump in and handle it himself. As he approached the edge of town, he could begin to feel the presence of Chaos energy. Not small enough of a thing to be an Emerald, so… not a lot of options for what it could be.

Hey, at least he was right about it being alien! Kinda.

Reaching the edge of the crater, Syphon’s carefully slid down, careful not to crash into his lookalike. At first, he was silent, looking over the other. Looked likeShadow’s taken most of the fall on his leg. He wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry. Kneeling down, he’d finally converse with the other.

“Hey… you still awake, there? I know you better than that, no way you died from a little fall like that…”

Shadow closed his eyes for just a moment, the tormentous feeling of dying frying his nerves. The pain was intense, and it took all his strength not to black out in the moment. Shadow wiped what might have been drool or blood from his lip. Once he opened his eyes once more, he was met with someone sliding down the little crater he had made.

Damnit.

His narrowed eyes looked to the other, not quite making out their shape fully, but their voice was clear. A hand moved to press the back of it against his brow, smearing blood everywhere as he brushed it aside, trying to gather himself.

❛ Gonna take more...than this...to put me down. ❜ He manages to muster out in reply. He leans back on an elbow and attempts to straighten out the mangled leg, but is met with pain and resistance. He grits his teeth to keep from screaming out and grunts instead. He falls back on his spines, staring up at the sky.

❛ Fell from greater heights... ❜ he notes.

Hunched forward with blood dribbling from his nose, half-lidded eyes regarded the cheeky hedgehog before him with distinct apathy. Maybe a little disgruntleness. Sonic had made a save, and now Shadow owed him. He didn't need that save. He would have been fine. Maybe a little more beaten down, maybe he could have dodged, he IS the Ultimate Lifeform after all. But what it all came down to is that Sonic had something to lord over Shadow with now.

How irritating.

❛ I didn't need your help... ❜ comes the cool, dark, and soft tone of the black hedgehog. For emphasis, he spits out some blood onto the ground and balls up his fist, punching an incoming robot and shattering it with his brute might.

It wasn't a question of 'who' Shadow was. That he knew. Even in his darkest hours, he always knew that he was Shadow. Yet, to ask 'what' Shadow was threw him for a loop, because it wasn't a simple answer. At least, he didn't think so at first. The more he thought about it, the more he came to a single conclusion.

He was once a cure, but that's long since passed. A weapon more suited him these days. With the raw and powerful energies that coursed through his veins. He was a ticking time bomb waiting to be unleashed on this world. The only thing keeping him from exploding was his pure will. Will to do as he wanted, because he was ...

Another sleepless night for the transgenic hedgehog. He wandered the forest with the stars twinkling ahead. His air shoes crunched the dried twigs and lush grass beneath as he walked through the area. His mind was spinning with several things, so it was no surprise that in his mindless wandering, he didn't notice someone approaching until they were close enough. He only realises then, spinning around to face the person.

⟦ ??? ☢ 𝐓𝐇𝐄-𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐄𝐒𝐓-𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄 . ⟧​

He was like a comet that shot right out of the sky, hurtling towards the ground at extreme speeds. His body crashed into the Earth with a heavy thud, grass and rocks spewed into the air as his body created a crater. The hedgehog lay there lifelessly for a moment before an agonising breath was pulled through their lungs. A hand shot out to reach for the ground, redish-purple blood-soaked gloved fingers dug into the earth and grappled for traction.

Shadow's breath was ragged, the sensation of his blood pumping so loudly he could hear it ringing in his ears. As he attempted to stand, he found a sharp pain pierce through his leg, and upon looking back, the mangled mess of his leg said he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. He gritted his teeth and hung his head, gathering all the strength he could must to flip himself around.

⟦ 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄𝐇𝐎𝐆 ☢ 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐖𝐑𝐋𝐃𝐒 . ⟧​

It was a calm day with flickies chirping happily nearby. The sky was blue and clear, the sun shining happily in the distance. Everything was as it should be.

Until a certain ebony hedgehog came hurtling through the air and flew right into a rock. The rock crumbled under the force of the throw, a hedgehog-shaped crevice forming in the rock face. The hedgehog lay there for a second, catching the breath that had been knocked out of them. A gloved hand moved slowly to wipe blood dripping from their nose, and a smirk appeared on their features.

Shadow narrowed his eyes towards the robot before him. He'd have to give the Doctor credit this time; he actually made something really difficult. A chaos-debuffing robot that packed a punch. The robot loomed in the distance, steadily making its way towards Shadow. The hedgehog pried himself from the rock and dusted some rubble from his fur. He launched himself at the robot and curled into a spin dash, which sent him bouncing off with little effect.

As Shadow was unleashing an onslaught of regular moves towards the Robot, he didn't realise that there was a third party joining the bunch. A certain blue hedgehog in the vicinity.
