Anyway here is my take:

I think trying to make a movie out of The Odyssey (not the story of Odysseus, but The Odyssey as in the poem) is a bit of a doomed endeavour as the structure of The Odyssey simply does not jive with the structure of the Hollywood movie

I think you COULD make a good movie out of the odyssey but would need to engage w the fact that it's a work which veers back and forth between fantasy and realism; that it's a story told out of chronogical order; and also that it is a Trickster Hero story first and foremost. It is perhaps best done as a comedy but with the occasional shocking swerve into graphic violence.

Here are my opinions:

The Odyssey should be a musical but ☝️only some of the time. When Odysseus is narrating? Musical. Penelope and Telemachus on Ithaca? 🙅‍♀️

Odysseus can break the fourth wall during the parts where he's narrating.

Movie opens with Odysseus inside Charybdis, whirling around and around clinging to a tiny raft and screaming. *Freeze frame* yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.

To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.

i keep rotating this post by @deervsheadlights around in my mind palace,, im such a sucker for characters meeting different versions of themselves,, i think b!rocky & m!rocky would naturally butt heads owing to their very stubborn & testy natures but i believe that emotionally they have an amicable relationship. they have a mutually unspoken self hatred pact that they dont feel the need to hash out with each other. they get it. its fine. b!grace & movie grace however have insane beef and they do NOT get over it. instant understanding of why they had to induce four year comas for the trip to tau ceti. Like some evolution of the cain instinct but not in a like. brotherly fashion. Only the murder

lmao im seconding all of this. i feel like all things considered the rockies might balance each others neuroses pretty well, even if theyre gonna keep butting heads and complaining and generally being miffed about having to work around each other. they both have A System of working out a problem that they will both insist is superior to the others even though its probably. very similar lol. theyll get super technical and pedantic but by the end theyre arguing just to argue with someone who can keep up. also they get to thrum! which might be conducive to their relationship but also weird and uncomfortable? which is new because usually thrumming is a pretty frictionless enmeshment? but theres a new (self)awareness to doing that with another version of themselves, so maybe they do it once and then unanimously go no. no i dont like seeing myself that way. lets not do that.

with the graces you KNOW its just constant one-upmanship. they wrongfully assumed that rocky has helped them outgrow the need to be the smartest guy in the room but it turns out theyre both wrong. theyre going to pick apart every suggestion the other makes and even the mildest logical error or inaccuracy is blood in the water. its NOT productive. its also very transparent what theyre doing, which is projecting their own insecurities onto each other lol. theyre treating this like a game show where the lesser of them will be hogtied and vented out the airlock by the end. the rockies bond over their aforementioned self hatred pact (real and true btw) and also over their mutual exasperation at their aliens ego-driven bullshit.

The Rockies, who think human voices are just as cute as we think Eridian ones are, do not put a stop to it. They should absolutely be putting a stop to this but they just don’t.
