hope this helps someone! a few linux-style terminal fun facts for you:

grep searches for patterns in a file structure; Kinger was looking for Caine's files and thought starting here could work

rm means remove (which didn’t work)

gdb ptrace generally speaking means he’s using a debugger within Linux's core functions to try and manipulate some file structures (which didn’t work either)

chmod I think stands for command hierarchy moderation, so he tried to control his reach/maybe the limits of his knowledge?

as for that "torment must be accidental" line, the paraphernalia engine may be the thing that control's Caine's imagination or how the adventures are made if it hurts him that much

Bringing this over here because Steve Grand mention. For those not in the know, Steve Grand is probably the closest thing we have to a cross between Scratch and Kinger in real life. Nice guy, absolute genius in a way that's deeply spooky, aims to create genuine artificial life and is definitely smart enough to do it. Creatures was a very big deal at the time because of how complex the genomes and brain structures were, raising questions on whether it was ethical to mistreat these things...Steve's magnum opus, Grandroids/Phantasia, has been in the works for over 10 years and the ideal plan is for it to make Creatures look like a box of Tinker Toys.

No real point here, I just think the man's cool as shit.

right so hear me out; i KNOW that it's just the budget for the series getting higher and naturally the animation gets better HOWEVER, looking at these two images side by side...

it kind of makes me think that the different in animation style also looks like pomni getting more and more immersed in the virtual world. when she first arrives, everything looks very "game-like", virtual, etc. because she hasnt really connected with the world or body shes in, so everything still looks just like a computer program.

but, now, shes been in the digital world long enough (even if its just been 1-2 weeks) that she can see past everything just being 3d models, she can see the details in her design, maybe even see the beauty in it.

im not sure if im explaining this well, i just thought it was a cool way to look at it and i hope that what i mean makes sense.

Fuuuck his expressions when he's forced to be met with the fact that they all still care about him. It's hurting my heart. He looks so shocked and scared. Almost confused. Like a cornered little animal.

Even after everything he did. Even after everything he put them through they still care about him.

You can hear him asking himself.

Why? Why after everything? Why? Why?

He's trying so hard to pull away, he's trying with every bone in his digital body to make them all hate him and not miss him when he abstracts. He's done evil, he knows he's not a good person. He's come to terms with his abstraction, that he will be nothing more than a cruel memory in their brains.

But...They still care. They care.

They still care, Jax.

You can't do anything about that.

C&A's AI Process (Interpreted using the Color Wheel)

An AI is created, and it is fed information. Easy to process information, information that's the same color that it is. Red to red.

And it's fine! The AI accepts it, it learns, it generates responses that fit reality, that are expected, that are rote.

So far so good. So C&A feed it more data. Different data, green data, a data set that's the direct contrasting color to its original code, to see if it can incorporate it into its being and its ideas. It changes the underlying code, it's less cohesive of a color scheme underneath, but it takes in the information and settles.

And it makes some ideas out of it! They're a little whacky, a little different, a little new. But it makes them, it was creative! (Green is a creative color, you know.)

So C&A figures, hey, that's fine. It's not too unstable. Going okay. But a truly creative AI needs to know its purpose. So why not give the AI another data set? A data set that explains exactly what it is, where it is, who made it and why? One that explains that it's a program, an artificial intelligence. One to trigger sentience.

Oh. Hm. The AI seemed a bit unstable with that one, I'm not sure it liked that. Maybe it's okay?

No. Not it is not okay.

Taking an AI that started off so basic and then feeding information about its nature, purpose, origins just makes the program unstable. So they start again.

And using what they learned from the first AI, they're able to make the second one sentient from the start.
