Sirius gripping onto Remus desperately in POA as Remus starts to lose consciousness when Sirius is like “Remus, Remus did you take your potion? Remus please!”

Because he did not.

And that potion is what allows him to keep his sanity and intelligence as a werewolf, so homie has probably not had to lose total control in a while, and he had to do it with the knowledge that Harry, Hermione, Ron and most of all Sirius could be seriously hurt.
