THE BIG FOUR: Convergence(A Once Upon a Time AU), Ep. 1, Part 2 Excerpt
EP 1 – A Strong Enough Belief
PART 2 : Lost Memories
Two years later.
On the day of his wedding, Jack Frost couldn't help feeling that something bad would happen.
The sky was still. It had stopped snowing after days of a blizzard. At one point the palace staff had exchanged weary glances with each other—at least when they thought Jack couldn’t see—whispering or mouthing that the wedding would have to be postponed. It just didn’t do well to expect a perfectly perfect day to happen in a Winter at Arendelle, or at least that’s what some of the villagers said. A Royal Wedding ought to happen during the Spring or even Summer, but everyone agreed it didn’t suit the couple. Though one would think that a queendom whose royal highness is famously called ‘The Snow Queen’ would be able to spare her domain from the harsh weather, Elsa had had to explain to one too many dignitaries that it wasn’t how her powers worked. She could control snow and ice as far as she could, but the weather was weather.
Only a few people knew that Jack Frost could quite literally influence the visitation of a Snow Day, with his presence alone, and Elsa had told him and the other three that it was probably best they withhold telling anyone else about the slow but chaotic return of Jack’s gifts. He couldn’t quite remember if he’d ever caused horrible blizzards in the past or if he could coax it to stop so that people could come out to play. It didn’t seem like something fun, but regardless of what he could and could not control now, they couldn’t afford to have the neighboring Kingdoms and Queendoms, much less Arendelle’s villagers, decide to drive the Guardian of Fun until they could figure out if he and the new Blizzard was connected. Besides, it only just started happening, everything else was fine before.
His memories were coming back slower than he’d wished, but he did live for 300 years so maybe it was taking a while for his brain to fill in the blanks, even with help from the the other Guardians or his friends.
That was another unavoidable reason behind this, as he was brought up to speed to the days that preceded his disappearance, the days that made him a lost amnesiac in Arendelle. There had been a bigger fight with Pitch Black prior…it involved the villain stealing Jack’s particular archive of memories from the Tooth Fairy’s kingdom. No one knew what Pitch’s plan had been, except, apparently, Jack himself, since Tooth had been preoccupied with business in another realm. But one thing was for sure, whatever Pitch Black had done to rip Jack off his earlier memories, it was more serious than just delaying the recollection of a couple hundred years.
❆❆❆
When he and Hiccup first paid a visit to the North Pole after Jack’s second curse had broken, Santa himself went to greet him. North, Jack remembered. The man was followed by a parade of crying yetis and musically clumsy elves, but the moment he was at arm’s length, the usually jolly old man’s expression shifted to concern.
“I sense something has changed in you, Jack,” his expression grim as he welcomed the boys into his office. “Something more was taken from you.”
North bid his time, requesting one of the elves to procure the boys’ mugs of hot cocoa. He furrowed his thick wispy eyebrows as he leaned against the large window behind his ornate desk.
Somehow Jack moved around the scattered toys and curious objects out of reflex, feet nimble and almost ghostlike. Meanwhile, Hiccup had bumped into every accessory and stepped on a few miniature castles that Jack was sure one of the yetis was spying on the office door’s little glass window just in case he’d break something inside. But the craftsmanship of everything fascinated his friend to distraction, that Jack thought he hadn’t been listening up until he said, “That’s what the Woodcarver said when we visited Dunbroch Castle a week ago.”
“What do you think it is?”
North inhaled and sighed deeply, glancing at the window as if he could imagine that the Man on the Moon was listening.
”It’s something that’s gifted to all Guardians of Childhood and is quite dangerous in the wrong hands.”
Hiccup had let his intrusive thoughts win, setting a blue marble down an elaborate mini slide, swirling around them, hitting little blocks, and wounding up into castle drawbridges, before going into the wall and somehow reappearing moments later through the doors of a grandfather clock. It began to play a little tune as a mechanical boy with a fishing rod moved on top of a moon. Then it stopped and there was silence.
“Sorry,” Hiccup said.
North seemed, at first, to beat around the bush, unsure whether he wanted to say despite clearly thinking of something. He spotted whatever it was he was looking for on the mantel shelf as he warmed his side by the fireplace. He picked up a wooden doll that reminded Jack of an egg or, better yet, a peanut. It seemed to be a tiny wooden version of Jack. His mischievous smile was painted well enough.
“I remember this,” Jack said, almost wistfully. “My center. Finding the fun when it’s needed the most.”
“Time,” North said, his voice a deep well as he picked up the marble in his large hand. “It is clear to me that the Dark One has stripped you of your Immortality.”
“What does that mean?” Hiccup asked, when it seemed that Jack couldn’t process what he’d heard, let alone say anything.
“It means, like this young man—” North put one beefy hand on Hiccup’s shoulder. “—you will continue to live on and, when the time comes...”
Just going to leave a quick post on here that I'm still going to be continuing the Big Four: OUAT AU on AO3. It's just that I had a lot going on in the last months of 2024 and early 2025! :D

EP 1 – A Strong Enough Belief
PART 1: The Boy in the Frozen Lake
Once Upon a Time…
Up above.
It was a full moon, pure and bright, as the heavenly body seemed to watch over everything. It looked like the moon had a face of its own and one could imagine it beheld a knowing look down the acres of wood in one part of the forest of Arendelle. Although, it doesn’t seem to give away anything else to help an observer guess how much it knew, not even when one would look up at it hard enough. Did it know enough about what was unfolding?
Down below.
A frosted lake, smooth and reflecting the light of the aforementioned moon.
A few cracks barely visible on the surface and then…
The shape of a boy, floating beneath, almost invisible in the opaque and chilled water encasing him. He could not have been older than 17 or 18 and, by some magic, it was as if he was only asleep as the rest of the lake flowed around him. His back was to the surface, his head hung low and his chin against his chest, as he drifted with his arms wide. He wore an unmistakable dark blue coat, with embroidered snowflake patterns on the cuffs and lapels, though a little torn from some fight not that long ago. His hair was white as the first sight of snow.
A glint.
There was a silver delicate chain around his neck, the end of which had a medallion, yet another snowflake, but one that used to belong to a young queen in a kingdom not far from the lake.
In between the heavens and water.
A queen dressed in light blue—the kind that glistened like the frozen fractals on the leaves and branches of trees and the very body of water itself—hurried to the edge of the lake. She was unbothered by the howling winds and the sharp coldness that came with it, running in search of something and eyes trained on anything beneath the surface. Any movement. Any sign of life.
She barely turned around as the sound of a sled and of hooves behind her signaled she was not alone and that the others have caught up.
“Did you find him?” called the high-pitched voice of someone, clambering off a sled. The princess of Arendelle’s voice rarely faltered with tension anymore, but maybe it was something in her sister’s expression that bothered her.
“I’m looking. I just can’t see him. I can’t--” The Queen, Elsa of Arendelle, huffed, her eyes wider this time as her breath made little clouds. She can hear something, something like a siren calling her in the wind. It guided her. Her heartbeats were loud as her sight honed in on a particular patch of the lake, somehow glinting brighter under the moonlight. The necklace!
She scrambled over and fell to her knees. “Wait, I see him! Here! He’s here!”
The ‘calling’ — whatever it was that made her sure she’d find him, had stopped. She pressed her hands on the surface. Rammed her fist. Then, with shaking hands, tried to make the ice melt and go away with a sparkle in her fingertips. It seemed to only make the ice thicker. Stronger, and the boy seemed to move further away underneath them. Elsa pulled her hands back so quickly that she fell to her back, heels slipping, just as five other people approached her from the sled.
Anna, the Queen’s sister was quick to hold her, while her burly blonde fiancé, Kristoff, tried to keep a large reindeer at bay, mumbling something about a ‘cursed lake’. Then there were the strangers that recently came to Arendelle, right before all of this happened. She had a lot of questions and a lot of concerns, considering how the Dark One had arrived only shortly after them, but they seemed as eager and frantic as she was.
A gangly boy with the much-too-big armor of a Viking had introduced himself as Hiccup, and, surprisingly, Princess Merida, a girl with fiery red hair, who Elsa had only heard about in passing from the Queens’ Council. Queen Elinor of Dunbroch’s elusive daughter. She barely had the time to wonder what either were doing in Arendelle or how they knew about her mysterious white-haired ward. But both Viking and Princess carried pickaxes, taken from who knows where and had already started hacking at the ice.
Another girl, one with long, golden hair braided with foreign spring flowers at her back, went to take Queen Elsa’s hand. She had tagged along with the other two when they first came into the queendom, probably only a little less than 24 hours ago. She had shivered the most, claiming that she was unused to the cold unlike Hiccup and Merida, and had been given a heavy cloak and boots. She’d seemed a bit awkward in the snow and even around the village taking it all in like she was just as used to being shut inside as the queen herself.
The girl’s, Rapunzel’s, hand was sunlight-warm against the queen’s cold as ice.
The Queen never used to shiver due to low temperatures, but she’d been shivering for a while now ever since he disappeared, and both Anna and Rapunzel attempted to keep her still. The gesture was warm. The sunlight-girl’s look of determination contrasted with the queen’s worried expression.
“It has to be you, Queen Elsa,” the girl with golden hair said, the mention of her name startling her as if she’d expected only to be a spectator as the strangers took over.
I remember fondly all those old original Rotbtd edits, where the four were posed like for promo posters. So I wanted to edit smth similiar and simple, with the original classic logo<3
Please continue your fanfic, it made me want to watch OUAT again and trust me if I could give more than one like or more than one kudos I would. I can only send you encouragement and a hug. Thank you for your hard work and keep up the good work!
You are so sweet!
I'm sorry it took me a while to see this. I haven't used Tumblr since 2020, but I literally just went back to updating this fic last April (this year, 2024).
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
I haven't been using or opening my Tumblr since 2020! I know it's been a long time, but last April, literally this 2024, I went back to my Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons OUAT AU fic on Archive of Our Own. I took all the pressure off my shoulders about it. I allowed myself to enjoy the process.
Hello! I missed the Big Four fandom here on Tumblr. I'm wondering if you guys are still around!
I don't know if I'll continue to be active here on Tumblr, but I'm certain I'll be continuing this fic!
Please consider following and giving a kudos on my AO3:
The Big Four: Convergence (A ONCE UPON A TIME AU) by Bookishnerdhero on AO3
THIS IS THE REBOOT VERSION! This FIC is undergoing revisions, but it is the main updated version! Please skip to Chapter 5 to start reading!
Summary:
Jack St. North is just an ordinary Sophomore High student from Dreamer Haven's, Dreamworks Academy...sort of.
He's more of a loner really; orphaned, invisible, living in-between sardonic pranks and the usual teenage angst when you basically have nobody and nothing. Things change when a little boy knocks on his door with a big brown storybook in his hand, telling him that he was actually from another world where fairy tales are real and dreams come true and that he, Jack, was actually one of the legendary Big Four.
Naturally, he doesn't believe it. The boy, Jamie, tells him that he needs to reunite with the Big Four, Rapunzel, Merida, and Hiccup, in order to break the curse that Pitch Black placed upon their real world.
Only with the four united could they stand a chance in solving the curse's threat. And based on Jamie's story Jack is sure he means his nerdy world history classmate and two other girls he'd just met from Disney High.
Hello hello hello!
I'm back at it again with a post. This time I want to officially re-introduce my Big Four OUAT AU Fic to the BigFourblrs out there.
I haven't updated the fic on AO3 since October, but I wanted to share here that I DO have something up my sleeve for it.
As of today's writing, my outline and vague plans have led me to believe that this fic will have 12 'episodes'. But if you know this fic and are up to speed on my recent big changes for it then you'll know that 12 is not exactly the final chapter number.
Episode 1: A Strong Enough Belief has about 9 chapters out now, with one chapter left coming up next. Totaling to 10 chapters for that episode!
I don't know if I'll be doing 10 parts per episode, but I'm already foreseeing that this is going to be a BIG FIC.
WHAT IS The Big Four (Once Upon a Time AU), you ask?
This fic was something I started back in my old Tumblr account, Bookishnerdhero. That old account was a mix of bookish things, fandoms, and writeblr, but I wanted to start fresh with this account dedicated to mostly fics, fanart, and fandom alone.
Now, the BIG FOUR (OUAT AU) is an AU where the characters of the fandom, lovingly and chaotically named, Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons, come together in the style of the 2011 Fantasy Drama TV Series, Once Upon a Time.
The old version took too long for me to write, so I decided to cut each 'episode' into parts. There is an OLD VERSION of the fic, that I just keep for sentimental purposes, and a NEW VERSION that follows all the brand new ideas and changes I've wanted to implement on the fic. I feel like I've grown as a writer since my very long hiatus.
HERE is the Summary:

Welcome to me stepping into a new fandom space with redesigns as usual
Idk if I'm 100% happy with Jack's design, but it's better than the first draft so whatever we'll see if I keep it or never touch it again (the ugly preliminary designs are under the cut)
I've wanted to have a space to share future fan art and updates about my fanfiction. I decided to start fresh and made a new account for just this! (I used to be @bookishnerdhero)
I do fanfiction and fanart as a hobby, so it will take a while before this site looks like an actual blog. It's also been a while since I used Tumblr, and I know a lot has changed with the app/site. But I only intend this blog to be a casual, fun thing. I also really wanted to draw fanart of my fic, but didn't know where to post, hence, this blog.
I am currently reviving and revising my old fic:
The Big Four: Convergence (A Once Upon a Time AU) on AO3
So my future posts will most likely be about that.
Hello!
This is my first post back on Tumblr. Lol!
(I also had to move this blog because I was using it as a 'Primary' and wanted to make it a 'Secondary', since it's my side hobby blog.)
