Me too! It’s the same thing I immediately thought as soon as I saw this! I love how you can easily say that—even if they are the same ceremony/event, two weddings—the situation isn’t the same at all, not only by the Eric’s face and rigid posture (my boy was like a robot, I bet he wasn’t even conscious😭), but also by the sky colours. In the Eric and Vanessa’s not-so-consensual-wedding scene the sky was literally lik fire, while in Ariel and Eric’s wedding the sky was so blue and bright and Triton also created a rainbow at the end, another little hint that it was a happy situation

Well, I'm nlt sure, but Eric is wet and he also seems a little annoyed here, so I think that the problem is the fact that, in this AU, Ariel's attempt to jump the chasm with the carriage went SO badly and they ended in a river😅 but I still can't figure why they got arrested here (because when Ariel make the carriage jumping the chasm they were all alone in a wood, there weren't other people), so maybe I'm wrong, maybe Ariel's crime was really the puppet thing
I think they went to a ye olde 1800s aquarium and Ariel felt sad that the sea creatures are in captivity and Eric wanted to impress her so he attempted to take them and release them back into the ocean 😭😭 Ariel got arrested too because she was seen with Eric and began helping, Eric slipped in the water which drew attention.
I swear this is one of the funniest headcanons I’ve ever read💀😭 besides impressing her, I think Eric wanted to make Ariel happy, he’s not the kind of dude who loves bragging while he’s with girls (I also think he’s not even SO used to interact with girls)… but yeah, he would totally do that for her. The only thing I don’t understand is why he got arrested, but maybe he’s not a Prince in this AU, or maybe they were visiting another kingdom, so he wasn’t the ruler there… I REALLY hate being picky but I got the doubt because during the dinner scene, Eric asked Ariel if she wanted to join him for a tour of his kingdom the next day.
I think it's one of those situations, either AU or a different kingdom. Or a situation where he was mistaken for a peasant, by like guards in training, and he is brought to *the dungeons* of the palace and Grimsby is like "Eric... not again. Guards, this is the prince and our newest guest. Please release them😭" But yes he felt bad for Ariel, and for the sea creatures, so he'd just go ahead and do it ☺️
I swear, it’s the same thing I thought, Because as soon as I reblogged the post, I thought about it a bit and it reminded me of a scene identical to the one you described, one I’d already seen in a movie before (called “Ferdinand, King of Naples”), and I think that, considering that Eric always dresses like a sailor and loves spending time on ships, I think something like that would be very plausible; in fact, it may have already happened several times. Perhaps the guards didn’t notice it right away because they had just been hired, because they were newcomers, and also because Eric, being very humble, judging by what we see in the scene where Grimsby gives him the statue for his birthday, doesn’t like being depicted in ways he doesn’t recognize himself in, or perhaps he just doesn’t like being depicted in sculptures or portraits in general, so it’s also plausible that there aren’t many portraits of him in the castle... And perhaps, for these reasons, he wasn’t recognized immediately (I can’t even imagine the embarrassment of the guards when Grimsby arrived and told them that the prisoner was the prince, especially if those guards were new hires😅).
Anyway, in that fan art Eric seems a little annoyed by the situation, but I think in a situation like that he would ALSO be smirking and giggling sarcastically, like: “Look at this kind of situation… I am a Prince, my OWN guards don’t recognize me and they imprison me in the cells of my OWN castle, LOL”. By the way, this is a REALLY wonderful headcanon, great idea, thank you sm!❤️
I also imagined how this scene could continue:
Grimsby arrived and—shocked and annoyed—let Eric out of the cell…
Grimsby: *raising an eyebrow* *sarcastically* “What the h3ll were you doing there, by the way?”
Eric: *proud face* “Prison quality control. I wanted to personally test the comfort of the cells, to ensure prisoners’ right to be comfortable during their (forced) stay.” *nods to make his statement seem stronger*
Grimsby: *even more shocked* *the AUDACITY*
Ariel: *can barely keep from bursting out laughing*
Grimsby: *looks at Ariel suspiciously, like if to say: “How EVEN were you with him in this whole thing?”
Ariel: *tries to regain some composure*
Grimsby: *goes away, muttering* “These young people nowadays…”
Eric: *rolls his eyes*
Ariel and Eric: *wait until Grimsby is far enough away and then they both burst out laughing, because they couldn’t hold it in any longer*

I’ve just found this pin on Instagram (made by thepinhut) and I think it’s amazing!❤️ I love the little difference here compared to the same scene in the animated movie, because in the animated movie, Eric is already looking at Ursula, ready to imp4le her, with a menacing look, while here he’s not looking straight ahead, but to the side, he still has a very determined look, you can clearly see he’s probably STILL searching for Ursula instead, while thinking: “Where the f*ck is that b*tch who tried to h*rt Ariel… COME ON, YOU COWARD, SHOW YOUR UGLY OCTOPUS-AHH!”
I've just found this really cute fan art of Ariel and Eric on Instagram, and I appreciate so much that they have been aged up a little, because I like the fact that this shows how they are still together even after so many years (and also because I think that Eric is even more handsome with a beard and chest hair hehehe😏). I also really like how Ariel finally learned how to properly comb hair (with a hairbrush and not with a fork), and I absolutely love how Eric is looking at her with a look of pure adoration and devotion❤️🥹
Another small detail that you can’t see in this image (because the artist preferred to divide the drawing into multiple slides, so this detail I’m talking about is in the next slide... I’ve included the link, so you can see the drawing—and support the artist—on Instagram by simply clicking there), is the fact that Scuttle is also there, who, like in the movie, is trying to listen to Eric’s heartbeat from his feet. In this drawing, he’s worried because (unlike in the movie, where he couldn’t hear the heartbeat), in this case, Eric’s heartbeat is actually too fast, and the poor seagull can’t understand why... but in reality, it’s precisely because Eric is very happy. Despite he has his head in Ariel’s lap, who is also calmly combing his hair with a brush (a very relaxing activity), he’s looking at her with a look of pure love, which is why his heart is beating so fast. It’s a really cute detail🥹
I can easily imagine that, a few seconds after this scene takes place, Scuttle actually expresses his concerns, asking why Eric’s heart is beating so fast, and Eric tries to explain why while stuttering and blushing SO MUCH, and Ariel starts laughing because she actually understood everything💀😭
I’ve just watched on YouTube a quite old video (from 11 years ago) of the rehearsals of the song “One Step Closer” from the TLM musical, with Colton Hattabaugh as Eric and Shelby Thomas as Ariel, and I loved SO many things! Colton Hattabaugh's voice was absolutely perfect, so similar to Sean Palmer's one! I really liked the actors' movements and dance steps (especially the times he picked her up, really romantic🥹), and also Ariel's funny moments (like when she bowed and just stood there, and Eric had to "unlock" her movements, LOL💀), Shelby Thomas was SO good at it! But the thing I liked the most was that cute hug at the end, Ariel would totally thank Eric like that because he teached her how to express her feelings through dance❤️😭
