I hope Ilya goes bald and he doesn’t handle it well. I hope it reminds him of his father and it makes him worry about his sex appeal and he cycles through the stages of grief over it never quite managing to jump to acceptance. And Shane sees that Ilya is struggling but never once does he think it’s about his body image because, to him, that’s never who Ilya has been. And it’s not because he can’t pick up on things, it’s because that has truly, never once, been something Ilya has flinched at. And yet, I do think he helps, in his own way (touching Ilya) (loving Ilya) (being Shane)

sometimes Shane does things for Ilya like cutting up fruits or washing his hair or bringing out a sweater when it's cold or making sure he gets all his meds when he's sick and it's no big deal for Shane but he doesn't know that the only other person to ever do these things for Ilya was his mother.
