So much AWARENESS! A song for all Autism Helpersâą and Autism Parentsâą
***possibly NSFW due to swears
***Video is not flashy. There is some quick movement, in the form of a giraffe falling off of shoulder, and snapping.
Video description: Light-skinned woman with red hair, a multicolored flower crown, purple glasses and blue-gray lipstick wearing a white strapless dress (and a freshly done giraffe and cat tattoo) sings two songs, Sweet as Whole and Asshole, with some changes made. Woman-lady does not make nearly enough facial expressions despite trying very hard to do so. There is a pretense of "I am going to sing nice songs" which is revealed to be a lie. Also, woman-lady has a giraffe on her shoulder

"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist."
It is almost April and it is the time of the year when Autistics have to remind the rest of the world that we are human beings, that we have human feelings. We need to do that because, more than in any other month, April is when we are talked about, bashed, blamed and demonized, âŠ
Signal boost: Skylanders is partnering with Autism $peaks this year.
They are making special âPower Blueâ Supercharger figures for âlight it up blue.â These are already being sold in the US and Europe and will be sold in Canada starting next month.
Skylanders is planning to donate a large amount of money to Autism $peaks, not just from these special figures but potentially from all Skylanders sales.
Please participate in boycotting Skylanders and this harmful organization. If you are able to, consider contacting Skylanders and asking them to end their support of A$. Their website is here, and their Facebook page is here. A few people have spoken up already, but the more negative comments they receive, the better the chance they will reconsider.

The Mighty Portrays itself as a resource to help "people facing disease & disability". However, they have repeatedly published essays and articles that promote stigma and the narrative of tragedy surrounding disabled lives. They have continually centered the experience of parents with little regard to the privacy and dignity of disabled children or adults. Recent articles included a "Meltdown Bingo" that mocked and belittled Autistic children experiencing a meltdown. A meltdown is a terrifying experience for the Autistic person, and it is one that is often accompanied by guilt and shame. This article was published with no thought to the humanity or dignity of Autistic people. It was played for laughs and toxic "parent support". If your "support" comes at the expense of the dignity and humanity of your children, it is the opposite of helpful for EVERYONE. While this article was removed, there was no apology to those who were harmed.... continue reading, sign and share the petition https://www.change.org/p/themighty-com-the-mighty-apologize-for-the-harm-you-do-to-the-disability-community?recruiter=1241910&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

BAS Statement on Autism Speaks Board Appointments
Recently, Autism Speaks announced the appointment of three new individuals to their Board of Directors. Â Two of these individuals, Valerie Paradiz and Stephen Shore, are Autistic adults. Â While bringing Autistic people onto the board is a step in the right direction the politics of the organization remain unchanged and therefore our opposition to it will not waver. Until they stop researching cure, and spreading fear and hatred of Autistic people they are still everything that we stand [email protected]
Hey I would like to know what to you think about the new autistic character in the Sesame Street ? I'm not sure what to think about it because I don't if autism speaks is involved and I they totally ignoring autistic adults. Also I can't find any sources of an autistic person being involved in the character development.
Nothing I have read about Sesame Streetâs new autism initiative has mentioned Autism Speaks, so up until now Iâve thought of it as quite positive. However, on looking it up now, I noticed that some articles did mention a partnership with Autism Speaks, but that on their website I couldnât find Autism Speaks in their list of partners. Does anyone know whether theyâve cancelled their partnership?EDIT TO ADD RESPONSES:audiovisuallyexcited replied: From what Iâve heard theyâre now partnered with both ASAN and Autism Speaks which seems a bit inconsistent but I guess itâs a step forward? :Swierdrocks: Theyâre partnered with asan now and have cut ties with a$ per many peopleâs requests
Sesame Street is partnered with both Autism Speaks and ASAN. Despite the pressure from BoycottAutismSpeaks we could not get them to completely drop AS as a partner.Â

Statement on Sesame Workshop's New Autism Initiative
Boycott Autism Speaks are very concerned with the "See Amazing in All Children" autism awareness materials and information recently released from Sesame Workshop. Though we acknowledge that Sesame Workshop did make some effort after pressure from BAS and the Autistic community to include Autistic people in their development, the materials do not reflect the values and mission of Boycott Autism Speaks. We must move away from the narrative that states that autism is something that we do to our families, friends and loved ones. These materials portray Autistic children as props and accessories to the stories of their parents, siblings and friends. From the alarmist â1 in 68â graphics to the focus on parental hardships that are blamed on autism, these materials will only serve to further stigmatize Autistic people. Boycott Autism Speaks recognizes that to truly empower Autistic people, we must be the ones telling our own stories. We strongly encourage Sesame Workshop to give priority to Autistic voices in the development of any further materials in order to reflect the concepts of unconditional acceptance, authentic inclusion and the value of neurodiversity. It is absolutely essential that Autistic voices lead this conversation. As many in the Autistic community have noted already, when you mix messages of acceptance with messages of ableism, the messages of acceptance no longer function. Sesame Workshop, we deserve better and you can do better. Please check out these links for more of the discussion about Autistic representation and Sesame Workshop: http://eisforerin.com/2015/10/23/not-in-love-with-julia/ https://thecaffeinatedautistic.wordpress.com/2015/10/23/you-can-do-better/
