We are interested in learning about the speech, AAC, and assessment experiences of autistic people who use speech and AAC. We are curious if a modified version of the Communicative Participation Item Bank (CPIB) can be a reliable tool for clinicians to utilize in measuring the internal experiences of speaking autistic people. Regarding assessment, we are interested in understanding how their speech efficacy, or the extent to which one can use speech to completely communicate their intended meaning, was measured and considered in the evaluation process and if the evaluation resulted in a recommendation of an AAC tool.

The survey includes a mix of multiple choice, slider, and written response questions and is estimated to take between 10-20 minutes.

No identifying information will be collected in this survey.

How do we protect the privacy of children with disabilities while allowing parents to share their family's experience ?

This is what it would look like if The Mighty published essays about those of us who live with "non-disability". It's ridiculous and offensive, but when we do it to disabled people, it's okay? I don't think so. Here is my "The Mighty" style essay about living with non-disability.:

TheMighty.com: The Mighty: Apologize For The Harm You Do to the Disability Community!

The Mighty Portrays itself as a resource to help "people facing disease & disability". However, they have repeatedly published essays and articles that promote stigma and the narrative of tragedy surrounding disabled lives. They have continually centered the experience of parents with little regard to the privacy and dignity of disabled children or adults. Recent articles included a "Meltdown Bingo" that mocked and belittled Autistic children experiencing a meltdown. A meltdown is a terrifying experience for the Autistic person, and it is one that is often accompanied by guilt and shame. This article was published with no thought to the humanity or dignity of Autistic people. It was played for laughs and toxic "parent support". If your "support" comes at the expense of the dignity and humanity of your children, it is the opposite of helpful for EVERYONE.
