happy new year -------------_--------------------
Sci-fi short stories are so efficient; they take 15 minutes to read and then you think about them for the next 5 years
Hey guys, what if *puts the most horrifying mindblowing concept into your head with about 15 pages*
ray bradburyās dark they were, and golden eyed lives in my brain rent free even 13 years after reading it in seventh grade english
āthe zipper replaces the button and man loses that much time to thinkā -Ray Bradbury

Why is Ray Bradbury ignored on sci-fi booktube? -Liminal Spaces
#ray bradbury #the ageism these days is insane #not all old people are bad peeps
Itās just seems a weird take because, if weāre lucky, weāre also going to get oldā¦?
I feel like itās very much an overlap problem with ableism. Thereās this weird belief that a lot of people have that, if they just try hard enough, they will always be young, theyāll always be able to do anything and everything on their own.
At the same time, thereās this fear of being old or disabled. This absolute terror of needing help or being unable to do things or be ādesirableā to others. This fear of being unwanted.
A lot of people tend to pretend something doesnāt exist if they fear it. āIf I canāt see it, it canāt see meā and āif I just hide under the blankets, it canāt get me.ā
Then you add on the fact that people tend to hate what they fear, which ends up with them mistreating the elderly/disabled for absolutely no reason other than that they fear becoming them one day.

This short story is notable for being one of the first major works to deal with the idea of virtual reality and the dangers of addictive immersive technology.
āHow do you get so empty? he wondered. Who takes it out of you?ā
āRay Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451 (1953)
"We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?"
Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
'Look at me: married at thirty-nine, Will thirty-nine! But I was so busy wrestling myself two falls out of three, I figured I couldn't marry until I had licked myself good and forever. Too late, I found you can't wait to become perfect, you got to go out and fall down and get up with everybody else. So at last I looked up from my great self-wrestling match one night when your mother came to the library for a book, and got me, instead. And I saw then and there you take a man half-bad and a women half-bad and put their two good halves together and you got one human all good to share between. That's you, Will, for my money. And the strange thing is, son, and sad, too, though you're always racing out there on the rim of the lawn, and me on the roof using books for shingles, comparing life to libraries, I soon saw you were wiser, sooner and better, than I will ever be. . . .'
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Night Train
I want to feel all there is to feel, he thought. Let me feel tired, now, let me feel tired. I mustn't forget, I'm alive, I know I'm alive, I mustn't forget it tonight or tomorrow or the day after that.
Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine
