âBragiâŠ?â Loki began, his tone clipped. He did not immediately look at his younger brother, but when he did there was a wealth of fraternal threat in his eyes, âHave you forgotten what I was deemed the god of?â There was a accentuating âhm?â that accompanied the arching of his brow, âIf so, I would take a long, and preferably silent, moment to consider it.â
In point of fact it was hardly likely that Bragi had forgotten, or that anything Loki said would dissuade him, but it was worth a try.
It was close to the truth that Loki often attempted to do things himself. It was safer that way - for his loved ones or for him, he is not certain - and asking for help was⊠not exactly discouraged, or said to be something a king did not do, but something he had rather gotten the impression that he, in particular, was looked down on for doing. He could not place his finger exactly on what made him feel that way, but maybe it was the bitter experience of not being quite as good or accomplished as Thor in Odinâs eyes. Loki rather viewed asking for help as wise (it was what his mother had taught), but when it came to potentially dangerous ventures and information that would make his brother and his dearest friend more of a target, he would gladly take the risk alone.
ââŠ.I will remember that, my dear.â Loki answered Sigyn, equally as hushed, âBut I promise you that on this instance any delay in my calling you was not intentional. Bragi simply⊠got to it first. Much to my chagrin.â He whispered, and glanced toward the skald.
Bragiâs smirk could not have been anymore infuriating then when it was mingled with satisfaction, and Lokiâs green eyes narrowed, his fingers subtly twisted where his hand was resting on the divan, and Bragiâs wine shifted to water. Loki hoped he would not notice immediately.
âAs you command, brother mine,â Bragi drawled, his amusement undiminished. In point of fact Bragi knew perfectly well heâd dug himself in for some mischief from Loki, but he deemed it worth the price to make Loki see sense and not risk himself so much. Well, that and getting such a prime opportunity to annoy Loki.
Sigyn lifted her head from her focus on healing when Loki began whispering to her, and then nodded and closed her eyes to resume her work, sending her magic into his chest to knit the broken bones and sooth away the cuts and bruises.
The skald was briefly tempted to make a comment about how cute the pair when whispering together like school sweethearts, but Bragi was wise enough to know when the potential consequences of making such a comment were too hazardous to his health to be worth their consternation.Â
âI am merely making the point that there are people who care for you and worry all the worse because you take such risks, Loki."
Triumphant, he raised his goblet in a toast to his brother, then took a sip - and promptly pulled a face as he tasted not the delicious wine he had been drinking, but plain water. Obviously Loki was wasting no time in his retaliation.
