I agree, I enjoyed the book more than I did the movie. The movie was still great, but the book was ten times better. The scene where the trees started to fall surprised me. Also the scene with the cannibals chasing the mom and child was surprising. I had to ask myself if that was even in the book! I am glad the semester is almost over as well, I need a break from all this school work! I did enjoy this class though! I think Professor Clark did a great job, even if some of the books weren't all that great. (Joking.. A little lol)

We only have two weeks of school left! I am sure I am not the only one excited about this! I have mixed feelings on the movie adaptation of The Road. How the characters looked in the movie is not how I pictured them while reading. I pictured the mom with brown hair for some reason. Also, I loved the book and I feel like every detail mattered. I know if every single detail was put in the movie would be incredibly long, but at least the train scene should have been included. That being said everything else about the movie I liked it was pretty close to the book.

I am not even sure what to write since we only had one day of class. However, I am excited to watch the movie in class this week!  The Road was such a good book so I am looking forward to seeing how they took the book and interpreted it for the movie.  It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.  I am still trying to finish my paper.  Like Trent said, it has been a busy week.  I have been trying to motivate myself to get it done but it just has not been working out very well!

I am looking forward to the movie as well. I am a big fan of the movies who stick as true to the book as possible. I absolutely hate when movies leave out certain events from the book. I am nervous about the scenes in the movie. I was told the movie is very hard to watch because of the content. Hopefully I can make it through, I am not too good with gory material. I also agree I have not even had time to start my paper because of how busy my week has been. I wish you luck on your paper!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I traveled to Georgia and had thanksgiving with my family there! We were pretty close to Atlanta, where all that rioting was going on. Nothing happened near us though. Anyways, The Road was my favorite book we read in our class. The book got me thinking about what I would do if I were in that situation. I do not think I would do much of anything different. I could not bring myself to kill my child or myself. I would just feel like I was being selfish. I would like to know the boys story after he left with the family.

I enjoyed reading the book too! The boy does need to grow up. It is sad to think that everyone has to lose their parents at some point in time, that’s just life. The boy growing up and becoming independent is what needed to happen. He had to know how to survive on his own if he is going to survive at all. I am very anxious to see the movie and hope it stays as true to the book as possible. I hate when movies take out important pieces of the books and put in things that weren’t there.

The Road is my favorite book we have read in class. I would even go as far as to say it is one of my favorite books ever. I seriously cried my eyeballs out in the last seven pages. I actually had to reread the last two paragraphs. I think that the father was so brave, strong, and loving. I could not imagine being put in that situation. The way the boy maintained his good morals and innocence throughout this book is inspiring. I feel like it shows how there is good in this world no matter the circumstances. I would like to know how the boy ended up in a little more detail though. Great book though!

I agree on the not a fan of reading. If I don’t find the book interesting, I do not want to read it by no means. I don’t know if I would go as far as to say an adventure but edge of your seat kind of stuff, definitely! I also enjoy the no names in the book. Maybe it’s just because I know that they’re the only characters I don’t know why but I like it. It is hard if you aren’t paying close attention as to who is talking. Over all though, I have found this book an easy read and look forward to finishing it.

Well “The Road” has somewhat won me over! I am a huge fan of anything apocalyptic. The fathers drive to stay alive for his son and to keep him calm throughout their situation is amazing to me. The boy’s lack of experience is mind blowing too. Who hasn’t drank a coke? Who would want to share a coke if you have never drank one? The boy’s heart is so pure even if the world he lives in isn’t and I find that inspiring. When the dad has to explain why they couldn’t help the man who was struck by lightning, I choked up a bit. So far this book is redeeming the semester.

This book is just confusing. It makes sense in some parts but others I’m just utterly confused and have no idea what is going on. To be honest i really do not like this book. I can’t wait for us to be done with it. What i really don’t like it the jumping in the timeline. Normally I don’t mind but in this case its just bad. Yet even though i don’t really enjoy the book i can’t wait to find out how it ends.

Thank you! You read my mind! The point of view jumping was terrible! I would start to halfway understand and then a whole different story would begin! The time line was confusing too, I couldn’t keep up with what part of life the characters were in. I did not even realize that Rob drowned at first. The book was most likely meant to confuse the readers. Defiantly came to the conclusion not a fan pf Po-Mo. I am so happy we are done with this book! I have high hopes for the next book. Everyone keeps saying it is good, I sure hope it is!

I voted for the first time ever this past Tuesday! I did vote yes on amendment two solely for the purpose of the people who actually need marijuana should be allowed to get it legally. I agree with Professor Clark when voting people should vote for more rights, not less. On another note, A Visit from the Goon Squad, this book just didn’t do it for me. All the past, present, future stuff was just irritating. I mean if you like being confused by all means this is the book for you! I am hoping the next book is better

I agree this book is hard to get into with all this jumping around with the different stories of different people’s lives. It really makes me not want to even continue reading the book. It helps me a little with them being connected in some way to keep up with the story. I really hope that it turns around and just surprises us all, I doubt it will though. Bennie and Scotty were easier for me to understand as well. Their emotions for each other were pretty clear, the chapters six and seven have given me a little hope that this book can turn around.

Not a big fan of A Visit from the Goon Squad. I do not like having to piece together myself who is talking and their back story. It doesn’t really have a smooth transition either. This book jumps from one person’s point of view in a chapter to another person’s in the next chapter. They all seem to be connected in some type of way and that helps a little. I like the traditional story line though and I am hoping the next book we read changes my mind about the reading list we have had so far in this class.

I really thought Generation X was an interesting story. It isn’t anything like what we have been reading in class. Buck was no Prince Charming. Buck trying to talk the sisters into leaving the asteroid for his personal gain was a really selfish move on his part, because there was only enough oxygen for one person and he was going to use it. There is nothing romantic about that. At least the sister that he did talk into leaving was able to see her world (asteroid) in away that her family or anyone ever had.

It was selfish of Buck to ask the girls to sacrifice their lives for him. I wonder what an alternate ending could have been had none of the sisters agreed to help him leave. I also wonder why the sisters did not stop or the sister that chose to leave. They were just sitting in the swings? If I were in the position of the other two sisters I would have prevented the whole situation. The sister that chose to go was obviously deranged, no one falls in love like that. She sacrificed herself for someone whom she barely knew and he had no care in the world for her life.

Both Imago and Generation X were not my favorite readings we have had. Aliens and Sci-Fi are just not what I would say I am “in to.” I did find it interesting in Imago that he had so many parents and that the human race was destroyed. A lot of people now a days believe that humans will become sterile and not be able to reproduce. I also liked the fact that Generation X was a twisted modern day fairy tale. Yes it was about true love saving the day, but the two did not get a happily ever after like most fairy tales you hear of today.

I thought extremely loud and incredibly close was a good book. It did not intrigue me as much as you. I wish I could have been intrigued as much as you are. I enjoyed the thought of the book more than the actually book. Once I got to reading the book it was pretty easy to read I just kept getting frustrated because I wanted to know what happen instead of the in between stuff. Like when someone is telling you a story with so much detail and you just want them to get to the point! That’s how I felt about this book.

There is not much to say about this week, I like the way this midterm is set up though. Actually seeing some of the material might actually help all the students! Most of my entire group was new people I had not met before. I liked hearing their different ideas and perspectives on the stories and specific questions.  The different prospective helped us answer the questions more accurately. It also just shows how different everyone thinks and how they see things, very interesting. I also enjoyed getting to know the few I had not already knew or met in a previous class.

I also liked how close he and his grandmother were! Oskar reminds me a lot of myself in certain little ways like that. My grandma is my best friend! It helps to have someone close that can also understand your pain. You do not just “get over” losing a parent. It never leaves you and it never gets easier either. Some days are just better than others and you have to remember they would not want you to live your life all sad and angry at the world. I was also upset that the key did not unlock something more extraordinary, but with anything I just don’t think I would be satisfied either.
