Post 14 The one thing that I love about this book and movie was the bond between father and son. You don’t see that much anymore. The man doesn’t give up on himself or his son. Even though the love of his life gave up and left them both he still made the best choice for the boys future(hopefully that family wasn’t insane). Its hard to say what I would do if I was in the fathers shoes. Its hard to even imagine being in an apocalyptic environment. I probably would’ve stayed in the bunker full of food.  I really enjoyed this book. This class was amazing as well.

I couldn't imagine having to face what they faced. The thought of having to decide if it would be better to kill your son now or wait until later is devastating to think about. And I'm like you i would of stayed in the bunker, it i would have been found in there and killed, at least i would have been warm, full, and comfortable. This class has really kick started my love of reading again.

post 14?

The movie was good... although the book is always better than the movie in my opinion. There was some different scenes like the trees falling on them, or the scene in the big house was a little different than the book. but I didn't expect it to be the same. Im glad that this semester is almost over, but ill miss this class. I was expecting to hate this class since it is a humanities 3 class, I figured it would be my hardest, but I've really enjoyed it. I'm glad we have a great teacher who makes the class fun and interesting.

Happy thanksgiving to everyone. I guess this post should be about the ending and summing up “the road”. To me it was a very interesting book and I really enjoyed reading it. I would recommend it for more people to read. It is very suspenseful and exciting as you fly through the pages.

This was a great book and a quick read. But I would have to say that the 2nd book we read was my favorite. I do wish all of the books we read were this easy to go though.

Post 13

A little late on this post, it's been a busy week. Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving and a safe time Black Friday shopping. Not much to talk about since we only had one day of class, and haven't read anything. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to start the movie. I Still haven't finished my paper yet (I'm a procrastinator). Can you believe we only have a few weeks till we're done! I have really enjoyed this class.

The Road’s imagery was hard to get into my head at first. Getting through the beginning was tough, but after a while, I started to get what was going on and what the author wanted to portray. Some scenes are pretty intense, especially the ones where the man and son come in contact with other people. I wanted the father to shoot the “bad men”, but I realized he can’t because they aren’t zombies(Walking Dead!). One part that I liked that Professor Clark pointed out was, ” All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one’s heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes”.  I have a slight idea of what the author is trying to say, but hopefully, I’ll have a better understanding once I get further in the book.

I also thought that the imagery was a little hard to picture. It was snowing but ashes would cover the snow. There was woods but a city as well? I think watching it as a movie will help us all depict what exactly the setting looks like.

As an avid walking dead fan, this imagery was easy for me to picture. I just kept waiting for the father and son to stumble upon a herd of zombies! But as much as I enjoy post-apocalyptic fiction, I couldn't imagine having to live through it. What it would take for someone to resort to cannibalism. It's easy to think, "oh no way, I'd never eat someone..." But we will never know what the characters and going though. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see the movie, so I can picture the scenery a little better.

Post 12

So I was so excited to start reading this book... Till I started reading the book... The book started out really slow and I thought, oh no not another boring book! But I pressed on, and I slowly began to realize that I wasn't having to force myself to read, but that I was actually enjoying the story. I couldn't put it down. I ended up finishing the book a week early. What did you think of the book? We're you surprised and how it ended? I thought the book was going to end with them finally making it to the beach. So I was surprised when they stumbled upon the coast, the the book wasn't anywhere near being over. In the end it was a great read, and can't wait to see the movie. I wonder if the author would write a sequel from the boys perspective after his fathers death; or a perhaps a prequel, showing what led up to the books events.

This book makes my skin crawl and the hair on my arms stand. I’m really trying to regain the courage to continue reading it….. Apocalyptic anything is totally not my cup of tea. I totally wish there was a Visit from the Goon Squad II……

OH NO!!!! I did not like a visit from the goon squad! The book is so much better. (I love Thats the timeline is mostly linear.) Im also a huge walking dead fan so I'm game for anything apocalyptic! I can't wait to see how the book ends and then compare it to the movie.

The road

I really thought I would enjoy this book but it's just so slow, I'm so far behind on the readying assignment because I've been so busy lately, but also because I just can't get into it. Has anyone else had this problem? Around what page does it get really good? I'm just ready to watch the movie in class. (P.S. Can talk believe that the semester is almost over! Wow time flys!)

It seems like as the book goes on, it just confuses me even more. I didn’t even realize that Rob drowned when he jumped in after Drew just for fun until the power point chapter. Also I didn’t even know Sasha was married because at the beginning of the book she was on a date with Alex but yet now…

I do agree that the more I read the book, the more it confused me. I figured in the last two or three chapters, Egan would soon begin to introduce some sort of conclusion for the book. Honestly, the book seems unfinished and that the author could just keep adding on chapters if she wanted too. There also seems to be no main point in writing this book. Yes, music and the characters own personal problems play a major part of the book but what is the purpose of learning about numerous people that are connected in some way. I guess the book seeming unfinished is what contributes to making it postmodern.

This book is very very postmodern! (I didn't realize Rob had drowned either u thought drew did.) I agree with you, this book does seem unfinished. It more like a bunch of strange random short shorts put together to try and sell a book. It's like where missing a bunch of chapter that would fill in the gaps. I guess it's like how the author would, in some chapters, describe one scene in 5 paragraphs and then compress 40 years of information in only one paragraph. I would not recommend this book to anyone, and I really wish we could have read something better that everyone would have enjoyed.

Post ten

So who was the main character? Was it Sasha or Bennie? This book made little sense, defiantly unlike any other book a have ever read. It so strange how the characters POV changes every chapter and how the setting and plot was completely different in every chapter and the book was all over the place. On the other hand I'm so excited about the next book. I've been wanting to read The Road for sometime and I was so excited when I realized we would be reading it in the class.

What can I say about this book?? At first I really did not care for it. I could not tell who was who it jumped around way too much, but as I read I grow to like it. It makes you want to find out how there lives interwind together. It was hard to get through the first few chapter, and to really understand what was happening. Now I am on chapter 9 and I just want to keep on reading to find out how this book is going to end. I look forward to finishing the book and discussing it in class.

This book is confusing for me too, but i really don't have the urge to keep reading it. I'm just not interested in the story. Hopefully it gets better some time soon. I also still don't understand the title, but I somewhere that maybe time is the goon because in the beginning of the book one of the characters says that. It seems all the characters of trying to beat time in one why it another.

Ok so this book "might" have a chance at being on ok read... At fist I just knew it was going to be a boring book but now it's slightly interesting, but I hate how the chapters are set up, how they keep jumping around in time and from character to character. Maybe by the end it will all tie together and make sense.

Imago and Generation X are both very interesting books to say the least. With just reading exerts of both stories it was very hard to get a grasp on either one. The mix of aliens, humans, and astronaut’s needing love did not make for a bad story, but a confusing one yes. In Imago were the aliens keeping the humans for breeding with or were they actually getting sent home? And in Generation X does Serena ever get revived? I’ll be starting A Visit from the Goon Squad today, let’s hope it is not as big as a letdown as IL&IC. #Post8 #10/24/2014

oh wow! That image is neat a first but then now its starting to hurt my eyes! I do wish the author could have given us more info in the stories because it is confusing when you don't know all the details. Im have mixed feelings about this next book, but i hope it turns out good, but ill have to disagree with you on your last point, I didn't find the ending of the last book to be a let down, but thats just my opinion.

Can you believe that the semester is almost over! It seems like it just started! The reading the week was... different (I'm beginning to notice a theme here, haha postmodern is a bit...different.) I hope that "A Visit From The Goon Squad" turns out to be a good read. For some reason i have this feeling that I'm not going to like it. My hunches have turned out to be true for the last two books, so we'll see how it goes this time.

This past week, I must say, was interesting to say the least. I was definitely put out of my “comfort zone” by working with other classmates for our exam question creation. However, in the end I somewhat enjoyed basically making our midterm exam. I know my group created many open-ended subjective...

I know how you feel. It was hard at first to work in a new group. But after a while if was actually kind of fun; hearing different peoples ideas and seeing how they interpret things differently then you do. In the end it was really helpful and made me ready for midterm Monday.

So not really sure what to post. The midterm review this week was so helpful. I had forgotten most of what happened in the things they carried and some of the short stories we had read. Lost count of what week this is...

I loved this book! I loved the 3 different perspective and how the author didn't tell us everything that we needed to know when we would have liked to have known it. I enjoyed the visual effect that the pictures had on the story. Also has anyone seen the movie? I enjoyed it and thought it was really good even though it wasn't exactly like the book.
