yes, mysterious cat.
was doing laundry and thinking man I hate doing laundry.
actually that's not true entirely, laundry is fine. it's doing the bed.
well okay even more specifically- having to remake the bed after.
anyway so this got me thinking lol. who would do the laundry, in 00q. would they have a designated laundry guy. or do they take turns
which leads to. does Bond know how to do laundry?
Argument for: Navy guy. surely he does
Argument against: it'd be very very funny, in useless-sugar-baby-verse, if Q had to teach Bond had to do laundry. and perhaps assigned him chores, lol. rewarded him for successful completion of chores. Like, ooh yes good job that IS the proper way to sort, load, and then fold the laundry! here is a tweat <3
anyway. maybe Bond theoretically does. But had little notion of, like. load size. and yes modern clothes & machines you don't strictly have to sort your whites out etc. But like different fabrics have different care and etc. like surely there's SOMETHING Q would have to teach Bond abt doing laundry.
or maybe Bond is very sly and just follows him around playing it off as his typical clinginess. but actually he is Watching Carefully so he can Gather Data and perhaps Replicate the feat in the future.
anyway. invitation to chew on this with me.
ruminating... this thot is quarter baked at best not sure if I can even describe it properly...
okay so threads of thot. I was thinking of, like. the more "brutal" side of Bond. London Dry by brevifolia's thing of Bond having empty eyes with nothing behind them (as perceived by Q); the uhh one fic where some other random agent I think? is like you're a double-O, aren't you? I can tell. I don't know how I can tell, but I can.. and Bond is like, that's cuz I look like the guys who are usually at the end of your barrel.; then like- actually looking at pics of Daniel Craig and he actually has quite warm and lively eyes. Even when his expression is kinda dead (very common in like Spectre era alas lmao), his eyes are still like. like they're largely not BLANK or COLD, theyre mostly very "sadness you usually only find in Eastern European gay porn" dot meme etc. BUT! I do very like the idea of like a sort of coldness or brutalness you can see in his eyes, it's very, like, that aloof / absent expression he gets when seducing women (infamous soul wandered away from his body quote).
but then the thing cicer brought up again recently and I've seen around - and that I tend to agree with - that Bond is, like. not very prone to shame or embarrassment. (he can BE embarrassed, like if the guy he's fighting gets the best of him. but he tends to respond with: storming the mf embassy which he should Not be doing lmfao,. strapping Bomb to guy... KNIFE...)
and im thinking of like, the brutal aspects of his job, and Q, and ig how he would view Q witnessing him doing some of the more brutal aspects of his job. there's that one fic where Bond is forced to like very brutally and personally hands-on-ed'ly murder a guy and clearly feels some kinda way about him doing that while still on comms. and I don't dislike that kind of setup. But it does have me wondering how we work in slash reconcile a Bond who, like. has no illusions about who he is or what he does and is not prone to, like. hmm.... illusions? some sort of misplaced chivalry? some sense of self-loathing, perhaps? about the ugly side of things (the job, himself even). if this makes sense..
like ig one sort of distilled way I was ruminating on this was, the conflict would not be personal or interpersonal, not those ways at least. what would that look like?
and tbh I DO still think there are avenues of conflict to explore, like, it doesn't just remove the character conflict for Bond to know himself slash be sure of himself slash NOT be "emotionally constipated" etc (cuz again.... my prevailing impression out of QoS is that Bond has made a sort of working peace with Vesper's death and betrayal even, and that everyone else is more upset about it/thinks he is more upset about it than he actually seems).
because one...possibly under-explored? aspect I think. of Craig Bond. is how much he hates the job? and wants to leave it? but then repeatedly, for one reason or another, can't or doesn't?
and I think this is interesting and difficult to reconcile or explore cuz like... if he hates the job. why does he keep doing it lol. and etc and whatnot.
This does mean tho that if we stick to/incorporate this aspect of canon. which again imo, vastly under-explored. then no way Bond would stick around to train new recruits or the next generation of agent or etc. he WOULD fuck off to Jamaica to just kinda float about or etc. in retirement. he MIGHT stick around Six if he gets to just be Q Branch mascot and general nuisance, maybe? if he & Q get together before Bond retires lol. But I donot think he would want anything to do with baby agents. That, if anything, would probably crush him, I think. having anything to do with the next generation of people to get honed into things and churn themselves into dust in between the cogs of the machine. cuz it unfortunately really IS a "you'll understand when you're older" thing just like much of growing up & growing old, and just like with the mundane things.. you can't force the younger generation to understand because they lack the necessary lived experience TO understand, and there's little to no way to FORCE them to Really Get It without the lived experience that you are trying to help them avoid by trying to give them advice they cannot Get without said lived experience behind it, etc.
anyways. this post is very long and already, I know, too long to rly be able to get much engagement. and maybe I'll try to come up with a more condensed version/broken up version in the future to see if that's more "readable" lmao. but yeah.... man if anyone has any thoughts, reactions, comments whatever on this... I rly do want to hear it. cuz I think this is something potentially rly interesting to sink our teeth in to and chew on
me reading back on this lmao like "WHAT was the main points I wanted ppl to get out of this..."
cuz I AM still very interested in this *vague gestures* morass of... stuff. but also I recognize that it may not be the easiest to pick out the salient points from, lmao.
Okay. The threads were. thinking abt the more brutal/cold/scary aspects of Bond, as a killer. and how there are fics that explored that, I like it. but/and how with Craig!Bond - in spite of ppl saying he brought "back" the coldness of book Bond, his eyes are still quite lively and expressive? even when his expression goes blank, I think his eyes mostly look sad. But there IS still an edge of cold blankness to them, that I think is interesting, and
ah okay, I thiiiink one of the threads I didn't actually articulate lmao, is like. balancing the more... light-hearted or even silly but very "human" and alive aspects/portrayals of Bond, with also exploring/showing/depicting the like cold blank chilling Bond.
oh wait, I think the main crux of the first part is ACTUALLY (lmao)-- "how he would view Q witnessing him doing some of the more brutal aspects of his job" / "what would that look like"
and then blah blah his thing on Iii don't really think he'd feel. shame for it, necessarily? but would he feel like he needed to.. keep some of it from Q? maybe in an attempt to "shelter" him a bit - tho that seems a bit ridiculous to me given that Q monitors his comms - or maybe just like. I guess it could be less of "keeping a child innocent" and more, like. "COULD you just tough out the rain without any kind of umbrella or shielding? sure. Technically, sure. Ooooor, I could try to cover you a bit with my great coat just to help take some of the edge off, so you may still be getting wet but perhaps you're not getting soaked" kinda deal.
but yeah I think that's what I was getting at with all of that.
and then this dovetailed into me going "and actually, an aspect of Craig!Bond that I feel like is explored somewhat but perhaps could stand to be explored more, is how he seems to hate his job, and wants to leave it, but then for one reason or another, can't or doesn't?" and etc
but yeah. does this make things any clearer lol. and does anyone. have. thots. on this genre of inquiry, lol. please send responses please interact. i am digging my fingers in this and want some communal sandbox sand time.
I think (cracky situation yes) Bond should take a really big hit to the head. and be like rly concussed and disoriented and etc about it. and become absolutely, un-persuadable-otherwise-edly CONVINCED that Q does not love him anymore (they are not even together).
He is in enemy territory (Medical) so cannot show obvious weakness so he's not *weepy* about it, but he IS very sad and mopey. which probs makes the Medical staff even more alarmed and they insist on doing more tests and keeping him longer for observation.
This, for once, suits Bond just fine cuz *Q* also notoriously does his best to squirrel out of Medical.
but. surprise surprise!! everyone (minus M that first day) make their rounds to visit him/keep him company.. INCLUDING Q. o:
except now Bond is trapped in a room with Tanner and Q and he is manfully trying not to look too sad and broken up and sulky and heartbroken and-
is about as far as I got lmao, idk where this goes from here. But I think Q IS fond of Bond and he's like well trying to figure what tf is up with Bond/how to cheer him up is as good a side project slash hobby as anything. and at some pt he susses it out maybe somehow idk. but there will be a moment when he's like *fondly* you ridiculous man to Bond
what if this leads to like. fake-dating-that-bond-doesn't-know-is-fake bc q is like "well i can't DISTRESS him he's CONCUSSED he's in PAIN of course i will GO ALONG WITH THE RUSE that we are together" and moneypenny is like "q. you absolute fucking disaster. this is going to blow up in your face so bad" and like bond probably IS embarrassed that q lied to him! how dare q take advantage of him like that! he wishes he was still doing it it's disrespectful! things are weird for like a month before someone inevitably yells at the other about how he wishes it could be real!!!!!! maybe it's bond yelling at q. he's like "for god's sake man, if seeing me convinced we were dating wasn't enough for you to know my feelings, you really are blind!!!!"
q is like "i beg your ENTIRE pardon—"
but they do end up getting together
admittedly sometimes I AM kinda sad that I made a personal *wibbles hand* "rule" that biting is Q's thing. cuz I think Bond would looooove biting on Q. NOT like sexy time bites or like biting you biting you bites. But just like. RDJ-biting-Gwyneth-Paltrow's-Sleeve type bites. just. *is laying/reclining against Q on the sofa* *turns around and noms*
i just Know he would looooove that. *sigh*
I think something woodsy and perhaps something smoky is a quite traditional scent profile ppl imagine for Bond, but I. suddenly was thinking. on like, ougghh.... imagine him smelling like gardenia and honeysuckle. Maybe he has some kind of downtime body wash situation that he uses cuz it, idk, reminds him of his mother or sth.
and like Q & Bond hook up or sth during his downtime between missions & Q is expecting that like traditional expensive masculine scents... but then is hit with very lush rich almost gourmand-thick floral, but also with something vibrant and green, almost like fresh greenery like stems and leaves, or like cold outdoor wind somehow.... very contrasts of almost-buttery-thick rich florals on the cold moors kind of smell... i just think thats a very, makes Q want to lick him all over & smell him & gnaw on him kind of smell. yk. LOL
one topic that is always suuuper interesting to me is how much contextual meaning matters or can matter. esp in terms of like, defining what is "dominant" and what is "submissive." take hand-feeding for example. it could be submissive - you are the servant/slave feeding your master, who does not even have to lift a finger - or dominant - you are feeding a beloved pet, who is only permitted to eat what you feed it, when you feed it; it is at your doting but also your mercy. same thing with many other types of actions or gestures, like pampering, etc.
anyway lmao I'm imagining some, like. toxic masculinity agent guy who sees Q giving Bond packed lunches (he has to make sure Bond's food has all of the necessary supplements for his old man joints!) and also massages and is like *hooks a thumb at them* lmao the heck, is the Quartermaster Bond's housewife or something?
but then... he observes more of their interactions... and is like ?? what are you, some kinda purse dog??
and Bond - wearing tinted shades for his old man eyes and a cozy sweater (hand knit by Q) to insulate his old man joints, and getting a massage by Q on his old man shoulder, is like *tilts glasses down* excuse u it's Commander Purse Dog. to YOU
yes this is cracky. yes this is funny. to ME
ruminating... this thot is quarter baked at best not sure if I can even describe it properly...

...gonna say something so controversial yet so brave.
...I think Casino Royale makes. inadvertently. unintentionally. and yet they do. a GREAT point. for sub Bond. (and also incidentally. Very Brainwashable Bond, LMAO). HEAR ME OUT
like okay hahah yeah le chiffre cock & ball torture, "sorry sir, right away sir" blah blah whatever. I'm not talkin about that.
What I AM talking about, is this-
from Casino Royale (book) (Ian Fleming)
Bond closed his eyes and waited for the pain. He knew that the beginning of torture is the worst. There is a parabola of agony. A crescendo leading up to a peak and then the nerves are blunted and react progressively less until unconsciousness and death. All he could do was to pray for the peak, pray that his spirit would hold out so long and then accept the long free-wheel down to the final black-out. He had been told by colleagues who had survived torture by the Germans and the Japanese that towards the end there came a wonderful period of warmth and languor leading into a sort of sexual twilight where pain turned to pleasure and where hatred and fear of the torturers turned to a masochistic infatuation. It was the supreme test of will, he had learnt, to avoid showing this form of punch-drunkenness. Directly it was suspected they would either kill you at once and save themselves further useless effort, or let you recover sufficiently so that your nerves had crept back to the other side of the parabola. Then they would start again.
from "That More Tacit Approval" (AO3) (Diminua)
Some people claim that subs make better agents because they don’t question orders. Q supposes it’s an interesting theory if you ignore pernickety things like statistical fact (averaged out over an annual period there is no material difference in mission success or survival rate along the s/D//m/f axis).
okay actually jk lmao I thought it was That More Tacit Approval that had a thing about what makes subs good agents but it must be the other BDSM-AU fic hang on.
okay. from "Inevitably Archaic" (AO3) (romanticallyinept)
On an intellectual level, Q understands. Human instinct is difficult to counteract, so instead of trying, MI6 simply leaned into it, hard, with unwritten rules that seemed archaic when Q was brought aboard. Two years into his career at MI6, and 6 months into his tenure as Quartermaster, Q still thinks they’re archaic - it just so happens that, occasionally, the old way is the best way. For MI6, the best way goes a little like this: the people who claw their way into the titles of M and Q are always dominants, and the people who earn the double-oh designation along with the infamous license to kill are always submissives. Restricting a position based on alignment is very illegal, and has been for decades, hence archaic, but an organisation like MI6 is almost uniformly unconcerned with legality. If it didn’t work, perhaps it would be an issue. But it works perfectly - hence Q’s stress level regarding the double-ohs. Because they’re his. M had made that perfectly, terrifyingly clear as soon as he’d taken up the mantle Boothroyd had left. M may assign missions and handle debriefs, but the agents themselves are Q’s. He equips them for missions, he sits in their ears while they’re fighting for their lives, he hacks into security systems on the fly to open doors so they can make excruciatingly close escapes. And if he’s not good enough, he listens to them die. He’s only lost one agent since he took on the title of Q, which he knows is impressive given the sort of missions they’re sent on, but even one is too many, an unacceptable loss. They’re his. He’d sat in the agent’s ear for thirty minutes while the man slowly bled out, knowing help was more than an hour away but murmuring quiet assurances to the man all the same, and then he’d listened to him die. Forget the Silva debacle - that’s the experience he never wants to repeat.. So, yes, he understands why double-ohs are submissives and Qs are dominants. He will work all hours, will break any rules, just to bring his agents home. And in return… Well. The agents say they’re loyal to Queen and country, but somewhere in there is Q - the man who will run himself ragged to make sure they have the best possible chances of completing their missions and making it back in one piece. That’s why it works, why things haven’t changed in MI6 for decades. Because Q would rather see himself hurt than one of his agents, and his agents will do anything to make sure their missions don’t come home to Q.
....I don't think that's quite it either. Okay it must just be a general sort of... genre thing, then. cuz I swear there was something somewhere where it was some guy sneering about subs and how you get them on their knees and they'll do anything you order them to/how they're all gagging to be put on their knees etc.
anyway where I'm trying to go with this lmao. Is that. in Casino Royale. Book and movie. Bond gets tortured, yes? and then gets shipped off to recover with Vesper. and then, like, imprints on Vesper. and yes the movie does a better job at this than the book cuz Vesper is more of a character and also a bit of a spitfire which I think she NEEDS to be, anyway remember that iconic scene with Bond and Vesper? The:
Vesper: You've got your armor back on. That's that. Bond: I have no armor left. You've stripped it from me. Whatever is left of me.... Whatever is left of me... ...whatever I am... ...I'm yours.
(and god his fuckin... lip wobble lmao... ough)
the POINT - yes I know I'm taking a long time here lmao, this is the taking-a-long-time-to-make-a-point store okay - the POINT is. Bond has been through a parabola of agony. and reached the crescendo and etc. and come out the other side and imprinted on Vesper. whom is there in the aftermath of said parabola, both physically proximate and also offering in a way a form of aftercare and etc, right, with all of the etc etc and whatever it's maybe implied that she is there for? idk. (they also have him "seeing" her post surgery, and then there's her sitting over him smiling, beautifully lit like a renaissance angel, the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes...)
Which is both very subby sub sub-lookin ass of him. like... you get him on his knees (or I guess in this case.. by the balls..) and then he'd be lapping out of your hand, huh. dang.
and also "god he would be so brainwashable" of him. I'm thinking of Man with the Golden Gun where he got "un"-brainwashed (arguably, re-brainwashed, but the way MI6 wanted) and they did it by brutally zapping his brain and he was very grateful for their efforts for it.
anyway. ipso facto, QED, etc etc
theres a fic where the summary is like, Q notices Bond is developing and emotional attachment to him - which makes sense etc etc (like cuz Q is the voice in his ear, the guy outfitting him, etc etc). He gets curious and wants to run experiments to see how far it goes--
but then iirc the fic doesn't rly do that, or doesn't rly get into that, cuz ig the crux is more abt the "But can Q conduct experiments on Bond & remain indifferent, or will he get entangled himself?" or whatever it was
and. Im always sitting here like ;-; .....but I wanted... Q notices Bond developing an emotional dependency on him and running experiments to see how far that'll go........
