The literal translation of “lex malla, lex nulla” is “if I think the law is unjust, I’m going to tell the Clave to suck my big fat Blackthorn dick.” And I think that’s beautiful 🥰

Erling Haaland is a menace in the same way that I picture Ilya Rozanov being a menace and I will not be elaborating at this time thank you 🙂↕️
My Heated Rivalry head cannon is that after retiring, Shane and Ilya organize a bunch of local races to raise money for charity. Not so secretly they also do it to still compete with each other and Ilya almost always beats Shane.
I think about Plutarch changing “necklace of rope” in The Hanging Tree to “necklace of hope” so often. It’s such a good snapshot into privileged people sanitizing the language of resistance. Changing rope to hope really eliminates some of the intentionally graphic imagery in that song that Lucy Gray wrote.
After years of watching and rewatching the movies, I’m finally reading the Lord of the Rings series. So much of the books have surprised me so far, but my favorite part has been the orcs calling the riders of Rohan “horse boys” 🤣 it is criminal that got cut from the movies
Something has been haunting me for a few weeks. Dogs feet have probably smelled like Fritos long before Fritos were a thing, meaning someone made chips that smell like dog feet 🫢
This might be a niche complaint but as someone who can’t stand the sound of mouth noises (chewing, swallowing, etc) and listens to a ton of audiobooks, my biggest pet peeve is poorly edited audiobooks that leave in the narrator swallowing and sniffing between lines. It makes finishing the book feel like torture 🥴
All I want in life is the ability to listen to an audiobook while reading a book at the same time and still comprehend everything. Is that too much to ask?
Why do people use Latier as Beetee and Ampert’s last name? I don’t remember that name being anywhere in any of the books and to my knowledge it hasn’t been on promotional material like how we learned that Mags’s last name is Flanagan from her victory tour poster. I feel like I missed something
Why do we not talk about Hector of Troy more? I understand that untimely The Iliad is about Achilles and the Greeks, but Hector deserves more attention. His scene with his wife and son is so sweet. He is literally paying the consequences for his brother Paris being a little shit and is just trying his best to defend his city and his family. And don’t even get me started on Helen literally liking Hector more than Paris. His death scene in The Iliad with his parents weeping for him and Andromache realizing something is wrong is so deeply heartbreaking to me. He was so loved.
I fear (I say fear because I worry that I can’t handle more book related heartbreak) that we will get at least one more book from Suzanne Collins in the hunger games universe. While both TBOSAS and SORT changed my view of the series as a whole, I feel like TBOSAS impacted my view of The Hunger Games the most, while SOTR impacted my view of Catching Fire the most. I suspect there will be another book to rock our view of Mockingjay.
I would be VERY curious to know if there was a particularly rebellious hunger games during the year that Burdock died in a mine explosion. Even though Haymitch distanced himself from Burdock and Asterid, you can’t tell me Snow would’ve just forgotten about them. He had to have been keeping their relationship in his back pocket in case Haymitch stepped out of line again. Clearly Haymitch was involved in the rebellion for a while so it seems only natural something would’ve happened at some point to piss Snow off and make him stage a mine explosion. Especially because Snow would’ve known that’s how Haymitch’s own dad died.
Lenore Dove having red tinted hair feels like a rebellion in itself even though it’s not something she controls. In District 12 the people who are in the merchant class are almost exclusively described as having blond hair and blue eyes. Alternatively, people who live in the Seam are described as having dark hair, grey eyes, and olive skin. But she was Covey and therefore didn’t fit into either group. Lenore Dove would’ve stuck out like a sore thumb even apart from how she dressed. She was a symbol that things were not always so segregated in Panem.
Me watching Lucy Gray Baird haunt Snow until his dying breath:
I want to talk about the interesting tidbits that we got about District 4 in SOTR. Mags knowing about the bean and ham hock soup tradition from 12 was very oddly specific and tells me she has connections in 12 (not sure how). But also I think Maysilee’s dialogue with Maritte after killing the game makers is VERY telling. District 4 doesn’t function like the other career districts. There is clearly something deeper happening and I would be interested to get more information on 4 because they toe an interesting line of being a career district but also one of the first to rebel during the events of Catching Fire and Mockingjay. It gives me the impression that they’re always rebelling but they’re also always playing the capital audience.
I’m so happy that Sunrise on the Reaping has prompted more book accurate Haymitch fanart. I love Woody Harrelson, but I am tired of seeing that white man as the only face of Haymitch.
Just thinking about how Haymitch told Katniss she could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve Peeta and how it’s total projection because he sees himself in Katniss and was in love with someone so charming and artistic with strong morals like Peeta and blames himself for her death 🙃
