I am a panromantic demisexual.

I used to identify as straight and went through six labels before I got my ass here.

Back when I was straight a friend came out to me because she liked me and I told her “I don’t feel the same but it’s cool We’re still friends.”

She was floored. Like it really seemed to mess with her that I didn’t hate her. I told her “Literally nothing has changed. You’re still the same person, you’re just not the sexuality I thought you were.”

And you know, I could have fucked that up. I could have told her that she was terrible. I could have told her she was “just pretending to be gay for attention”. I could have told her a LOT of stupid shit. But I didn’t because to me none of that shit was true. She said she was bi? She was bi. Full stop.

I grew up in a conservative household with people that “don’t support my lifestyle” these days. But guess what? If my stupid little conservative teen ass could grasp that idea that “my friend is coming out to me, they are trusting me with this, they are probably going through some major emotional shit with this” and do the right god damn thing then you fucking LGBT teeny boppers can get YOUR heads out of your asses and do the same for queer folks and fringe LGBT folks. 

When one of my friends said she was ace for the first time my first thought was that people like that must be broken. I didn’t say that. I thought it. And at this point I was definitely queer. But you know what I did instead of running my mouth like a damn fool and upsetting her? I trotted MY happy little ass over to the internet and looked up everything I could on it and realized my first impression was shitty. Lo and behold, now, years later, I realized I’m on the ace spectrum with her.

Educate yourselves. Don’t be dicks. Stop acting the way you say all straight people act. Get your shit together. Be NICE to people. Treat someone telling your their sexuality, gender, or romantic identity the same way you’d want someone to treat you. And learn about it.

It’s canon. It has been for almost 130 years.

Hey guys! Do you know why there are exactly two Sherlock’s “I love you” in The Scene ™ ? You think it’s just to make Sherlock say the second “I love you” properly? No. Not only that.

In fact, many people forget [or don’t even know] about the “Sherlock Holmes”, the original play written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and William Gillette. In the very finale of that play there is a scene in which Holmes first tries to convince the main male character that his words and feelings towards her are false. And then, when she says that she perfectly sees his true nature, he confesses that he really loves her. Twice. )))

HOLMES: No.

(ALICE gives a subdued breath of relief)

But it fell in with my plans notwithstanding. Now that you see me in my true light, Miss Faulkner, we have nothing left to say but good night – and good-bye—which you ought to be very glad to do. So guys, whatever the other shipers think about The Scene ™ , that feelings are perfectly true and this is canon.

Someone else said it in another reblog, but Doyle didn’t write any of the play, it was all Gillette.  And the “marry him, murder him” line was supposedly written out of frustration after Gillette kept bugging him about what he was putting in the play.  So, I mean, if you’re counting all pastiche and apocrypha as canon, sure, fine, it’s canon.  But it was never from ACD himself.
