hello hello. what are your favorite verbs to describe the speech of someone who's dazed with fever / a concussion / heatstroke etc. I can only have them mumble/mutter/ slur their words so many times
Whumpee has been injured on a mission. They need their wound to be bandaged up, but they're still in dangerous territory. Whumpee, caretaker, and team member find a safe spot to hide, but cannot be loud or make too much noise.
Team member has to patch up whumpee with no anesthetic or pain killer, and whumpee is conscious the whole time. Caretaker has to not only keep them from moving too much, but also from being too loud so they don't get caught.

Caretaker pulling them close, "Hey, hey, hey, lean into me. Don't thrash!"
"Easy for you-- fuck it hurts-- to say."
"Bite my arm before you say another word-- Whumpee-- I love you, don't make me die for you."
Whumpee struggling to breathe, each gasp ripped out of them, "It's burning-- stop-- just stop please stop--"
Medic is unable to look up as they focus on the twitching tendons and dirt-riled blood. Lips barely moving, they force out, "The bullet...it's still hot."
Caretaker grabbing Whumpee's face, leaning in to press forehead to forehead. Sweat-stained and burning up with a feverish tinge. "Look at me."
Whumpee's eyes are wandering.
"Stay with me. You're real. I'm real. I'm here."
"I'm sorry-- I'm sorry, I can't-- I can't--"
"Pressure now! Hold them tighter!"
"Fuck--"
"Someone gag them, goddamn."
"You have to operate? Right now?"
Caretaker and Medic exchange furtive glances.
Caretaker places a heavy hand on Whumpee's shoulder. They stare them down until Whumpee looks away, lip already trembling. Then come the horrible words: "It's for your own good."
"Hey, look, you're done. It's all over."
Blood and sweat and sharp-scented walnut fill the hidden hollow.
Whumpee can barely sit up, leaning against Caretaker, too exhausted to even open their eyes. Their hair sticks to their forehead in strands. "Hurts...hurts like hell."
Caretaker holds up a bottle of water for Whumpee to drink from. "Shh," they whisper, "Hell means you're alive."
if anyone feels bad that their fic might contain medical inaccuracies, be comforted to know that whatever creative liberties you take with your medical scenes can never be worse than the one I just read. where one character tries to stop the bleeding on their friend's head wound by putting a tourniquet around their neck
• falling asleep fully clothed, possibly with jacket and shoes still on, legs/feet hanging off the foot of the bed or sprawled half-on half-off a couch
• the “oh shit, i’m gonna faint/nevermind i’m good” face (and aborted grab for nearest solid object or person)
• a character losing their footing for a moment on rough terrain. someone reaching out to grab them so they don’t fall and they both hold on for a hot second
• closing their eyes and leaning into a gentle touch

"Time to go home," someone says, lightly rapping on Milo's desk, and Milo blinks and comes back to themself. Right. Yes. Home. Right. They have one of those. A house, anyway.
They stand up. Listen to the rushing of blood in their ears, wait for the spots in their vision to clear.
They don't clear.
Then, very abruptly, Milo feels like they're falling. For a very, very long time. And their body is banging against their chair or their desk or the floor, they're not sure, it's just fall and impact, over and over—
And then they're on the ground. It's dark and peaceful for all of a second, and then the noise comes rushing back.
"Oh my god, are you okay? Are they okay?"
"Hey– uh– fuck, I know their name– Millie? Millie, you good?"
"I know CPR!"
"Christ, Jessica, we all know you know CPR, stop mentioning it all the time—"
"'M fine," Milo mumbles, slowly pushing themself back up to their feet. The dizziness returns, but it's the normal background level. "I'm. Fine."
There's a crowd huddled around them, blurry faces, hands reaching out but stopping just short of actually touching them. Milo feels trapped.
"'Scuse me," they mutter, and start trying to push their way towards an exit. They're already swaying on their feet, and they can tell it's only a matter of time until they collapse again. They'd really prefer to do it without anyone else around this time.
when a character just drops during a high-tension moment and the team scrambles to haul them up off the ground and keep running (what else would they do? leave them?!)

A: The short answer is no. The long answer is that you cannot have the role of whumper in your prompt fill (aka: no whumper-on-whumpee); however, if the character you want to be a whumpee or a caretaker happens to be a whumper, then as long as they are not fulfilling the role of whumper, it's fine. Also, if there is a whumper, it must be totally impersonal and faceless. Here are some examples for clarification:
A character's drink is spiked at a party.
OKAY: The whumper who spiked the drink is never mentioned and is completely faceless, and the story is directly about whumpee recovering.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: The whumper who spiked the drink kidnaps the whumpee.
A character is left alone in a storm.
OKAY: The character is stranded or lost.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: Whumper tied them to a post and left them in the storm.
A character is mugged on the street.
OKAY: The whumper is a stranger, faceless, and the focus is on Whumpee.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: The whumper is a stalker and there to kidnap Whumpee.
All in all, if your goal is to fulfill the event, then try to avoid a whumper. If you're using the prompts elsewhere, then ignore this; but in the spirit of the event, no whumper roles please.
