that helicopter scene from civil war with my heart will go on as music
so i saw something like this almost two years ago but i couldnāt find it again when i wanted to show it to a friend so i made it myself.
im very grateful for the lessons in photography i was taught in stop motion class because just now they made it possible to photograph the stars with my phone in spite of the camera usually not detecting the light of stars because theyre so dim,,,, enjoy these shiny motherfuckers
ok so if everythings normal, your phone camera should have a manual mode (sometimes called pro mode). in it, change the settings of the shutter lag to 20 seconds, then put the phone down on some stable, plane surface and press the photo button (usually when using your camera, the volume buttons can be used as photo button) and let the phone still for the whole 20 seconds.Ā
(basically the problem with most cameras is that they dont have a very good light sensitivity in the dark, however that doesnt mean they cant detect it at all. the longer the shutter is open, the more light your camera takes in and the more burnt/light your pic will be, so in (literally) dark situations, make the shutter lag longer to get all that light you need! also i said 20 seconds but really you can make it shorter or longer depending on what kinda stuff you want for your stars)
Yes this!
Additionally, adjust your ISO to the highest number (mimics the film used for very low light and low speed images)
And set your shutter speed to the longest time possible (on my phone itās 10 seconds).
Leave your focus settings on Auto, and if your phone camera has a timer option, turn that on (five seconds is generally enough).
Plan your shot first, then find a place to set your phone down so you can get the image you want. The less light pollution, the better; youāll pick up FAR more stars in your picture.
Once you know what you want to shoot, tap your screen to āfocusā it, then hit the button to take the picture, set your phone down, and back away from the ātripodā. Donāt touch your phone for a good 15 seconds, just to be sure.
You will not be disappointed in the results, let me assure you.
Not even a little bit.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IāVE EVER LEARNED
Washoe was a chimp who was taught sign language.
One of Washoeās caretakers was pregnant and missed work for many weeks after she miscarried. Roger Fouts recounts the following situation:
āPeople who should be there for her and arenāt are often given the cold shoulderāher way of informing them that sheās miffed at them. Washoe greeted Kat [the caretaker] in just this way when she finally returned to work with the chimps. Kat made her apologies to Washoe, then decided to tell her the truth, signing āMY BABY DIED.ā Washoe stared at her, then looked down. She finally peered into Katās eyes again and carefully signed āCRYā, touching her cheek and drawing her finger down the path a tear would make on a human (Chimpanzees donāt shed tears). Kat later remarked that one sign told her more about Washoe and her mental capabilities than all her longer, grammatically perfect sentences.ā [23]
Washoe herself lost two children; one baby died shortly after birth of a heart defect, the other baby, Sequoyah, died of a staph infection at two months of age.
more about Washoe:
after the death of her children, researchers were determined to have Washoe raise a baby and brought in a ten month chimpanzee named Loulis. one of the caretakers went to Washoeās enclosure and signed āi have a baby for you.ā Washoe became incredibly excited, yelling and swaying from side to side, signing ābabyā over and over again. then she signed āmy baby.ā
the caretaker came back with Loulis, and Washoeās excitement disappeared entirely. she refused to pick Loulis up, instead signing ābabyā apathetically; it was clear that the baby she thought she was getting was going to be Sequoyah. eventually Washoe did approach Loulis, and by the next day the two had bonded and from then on she was utterly devoted to him.
*information shamelessly paraphrased from When Elephants Weep by Jeffrey Masson.
Even more interestingly, after Washoe and Loulis bonded, she started teaching him American Sign Language the same way that human parents teach their children language. It only took Loulis eight days to learn his first sign from Washoe, and aside from the seven that his human handlers learned around him, he learned to speak in ASL just as fluently as Washoe and was able to communicate with humans in the same way she could.
now if yāall donāt think this is the tightest shit you can get outta my face
I made a color tutorial! i think the main thing is still to experiment a lot and to not be afraid of pushing it, but i hope this is helpful! i also hope my writings legibleĀ
This is a great tutorial! Thanks for sharing it! šš
Men like to believe theyd be great in apocalypse scenarios but they dont even know how to sew
Some male friends of mine were once talking about how useful theyād be in an apocalypse, and I pointed out that as a weaver and sewer and maker of stuff, Iād be pretty damn useful and they tried to tell me they could just loot clothes from WalMart and theyād be fine. As if WalMart has endless supplies without weekly deliveries.
So just last night a friend of mine was talking about who heād round up in the event of a zombie apocalypse and how Iām his go-to farmer on account of I know how to keep an entire homestead up and running and weāre talking about what kind of resources Iād need to keep a colony of about 50-ish people alive and i bring up what all goes into processing wool for clothing and such and he just kind of stops me likeĀ āwait, wait, we donāt need to do all of that because we can scavenge for clothes we donāt need to be able to make themā and iām just like,Ā ādude, that works in the short-term maybe but if this community is going to be sustainable youāve gotta have people whose job it is to make clothes and blankets and shitā
also cloth rots pretty quickly when left exposed to the elements and after the first few years or so anything we manage to scavenge isnāt going to be wearable anymore and anywho weāve got to teach the kids everything or theyāre not gonna know what to do some decades down the line when everythingās too rusted or rotted out to be of any practical use anymore, etc etc, and heās reckoning that things like woodworking and smithing and ranching are more important than say, cleaning or cooking or dairying and meanwhile iām just smh may all the gods have mercy on this poor fool
He also balked when i brought up how to run a laundry and what all was needed to make everyday shit like soap and toothpaste - like dude, you think this is going to be all about hunting and scavenging and being neato manly-man drifters like in the walking dead let me teach you a thing about keeping a village alive and healthy for more than a week man most of it is shit you keep thinking is non-essential on account of it beingĀ āwomenās workā orĀ āsimple choresā thatāre actually pretty labor-intensive and take time, training, knowledge, and practice to do successfully, let alone well, and are 100% absolutely necessary work in order for you to have any reasonably good quality of life after the world ends
Photographer Christy Lee Rogers produces luminous scenes of swirling figures swathed in colorful fabrics. She creates a painterly quality in her large-scale images not by using wet pigments, but rather by completely submerging her subjects in illuminated water and photographing them at night.
This is fucking outrageous. Sheās insane. Like nuts. Fucking genius. Also, this bitch is from Hawaii, which sort of explains her water photo obsession, I guess?

new idea: hell chess
all the basic rules are the same like playstyle wise
trash talking is encouraged
you get as much time as you need but if you look away from the board your turn is over
the referee is yelling everything like a sports announcer and you cannot complain
you can take one of your pieces from the board and throw it at your opponents head but you sacrifice that piece
you have to name the king and queen something
fun additives to make the game unique:
a. close your eyes and reach into a bag of about 48 chess pieces to pull out your sixteen pieces. whatever you get is what you play and you must follow the rules of those chess pieces. if you get four queens good luck. if you get no queens good luck
b. the referee can decide to throw in as many checkers pieces as a time as they please, as long as equal pieces are distributed to both players. the players are now not only playing chess but also checkers on the same board.
