A fan event for all creatives.

ABOUT

Let's create a Buddie Mixtape! Participants submit songs to the event and then select a song from the mixtape to inspire their work. This is for all creatives - writers, artists, giffers, etc.

This event will open on September 1 2025 for song submissions. Song submissions will close on September 27 2025.

Creative time will begin once the song list is posted in mid-October 2025, and posting will begin on December 1 2025.

It started as a drunken idea, pretend to be in love for the holidays so mom can't ask about the break up. But Eddie's choosing joy now, and Buck? Well, he's starting to notice that maybe he's not alone in this.

Inspired by "Mi Vida En Tus Ojos" by The Castles.

The phone vibrates on the counter incessantly. Buck wants nothing more than to ignore it. Let them give up and just try Maddie. It’s like they know… they know when to call him so that every word hits harder and sticks to him. He looks down at the phone, the vibration moving it slightly towards him. Three missed calls and over a dozen messages. He scrolls down and hovers over Maddie’s contact, hesitating. He stands and looks around the loft, Tommy’s words still fresh in his mind. Believe me I didn’t see it coming either. He stands, the chair scrapping on the floor as he moves toward his room. He pulls out a sweater and looks around, there’s nothing in here that belongs to Tommy. Not a single shirt, no stray socks, nothing to suggest the man had ever spent the night. He feels something caught in his throat, a quiet anger. “He didn’t even try…” Before he knows it, there is a case of his and Eddie’s preferred beer in his hand while his other knocks. Music is playing from inside the house when Eddie opens the door, without a word, Buck brings out a beer, hands it to Eddie, and steps inside. Neither of them say a word until the six pack is empty, a light buzz taking over the room. “You gonna tell me what happened?” Eddie turns his body to face Buck. “Only if you explain,” Buck takes in Eddie’s outfit for the first time since getting here. The popped collar, flushed cheeks, the clean shaven…“you shaved off the stash?” Eddie smiles and shrugs. “Just wasn’t me anymore.” “And the —” “The outfit?” Buck covers his mouth as he hiccups. Eddie sits up, smoothing the fabric of his shirt and attempting to fix the collar. Buck pulls Eddie’s hand away, popping the collar back up for him. His fingers linger there, warm against the nape of Eddie’s neck. “Looks better the way you had it.” Eddie stares at him as Buck drags his own hands back. Eddie blinks and lets out a breath. “I was dancing.” Buck’s face lights up, suddenly he’s sitting up, his phone falling onto the floor in front of them. “Really?” “The Risky Business dance.” “The what?” “Risky Business? Tom Cruise? Buck, come on. I’ve definitely made you watch this movie before.” “The one were he slides on the floor right?” “Yeah.” Eddie flushes as Buck’s smile grows wider. Buck can’t remember the last time Eddie’s looked this relaxed, this happy. I wish I could keep that smile on his face. “I did the whole thing, I think I’m sweating… Buck?” Buck snaps out of his daze. “Hm?” Buck’s phone starts to vibrate again. Eddie looks down at it and then at Buck. “Avoiding the parents?” Buck groans and picks up the phone, locking it and putting it between them on the couch. “She has impeccable timing.” “Why?” “Calls started a few hours ago, I have god knows how many messages. I’m sure they just want to figure out what to do for the holidays but I don’t wanna listen to her tell me she was right. I don’t wanna hear her or my dad complain about why I don’t have a family yet or how I fucked up yet another relationship.”

WOO!! Say hello to my entry for @buddie-mixtape-2025!

I've had this idea of Buck making Eddie a playlist bouncing around in my head for ages now, and this event was the perfect foundation to bring the idea into the world.

You can find the full mixtape on spotify and apple music. The playlist I call "E" in this fic is just The Buddie Mixtape 😉

You can also find the OG 🍑👨🏻‍🚒Diaz🕺🏻🔥 playlist on apple music as well! I don't have spotify, so I don't have a version for there, but if anyone wants to put one together you are more than welcome to!

Buck hands Eddie his phone back, an empty playlist pulled up on the screen. All it has so far is a title and a picture. It’s a selfie that Buck had taken of them some time last week. He’s all bright-eyed and smiley while Eddie glares at the camera from behind him, covered in flour and slime. Eddie wrinkles his nose at the picture, remembering the series of mind numbingly stupid events that had led to all that. He huffs, finally looking away from the picture to the title of the playlist.  🍑👨🏻‍🚒Diaz🕺🏻🔥 “‘Diaz’? Really?” Eddie asks, mostly joking. “You can change the name if you don’t like it!” Buck laughs, half focused on scrolling though his song list to find things to add. Eddie just lets out a long sigh that makes Buck giggle to himself.  Well, Eddie thought the sigh was what Buck was giggling about, but when he looks back down at his phone he finds out the real reason why.  There are three songs on the playlist now, and Eddie is both excited and appalled by them as he reads the three track titles: Whatta Man by Salt-N-Peppa & En Vogue, When Did You Get Hot by Sabrina Carpenter, and Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins. “Seriously, Buck?” Flat. Unamused. He’s trying very hard to hide a smile. “Seriously, Eddie,” Buck teases right back, glancing up to shoot Eddie a smile full of mischief. “The playlist isn’t just for songs you don’t know. It’ll be songs you like, songs I think you’ll like, and songs that make me think of you. That way you’ll actually listen to it. Just hit shuffle and let the music do its thing.”

“You look stressed, mijo,” Pepa says, watching him watch Christopher. He's reading some book for English class, a classic Eddie had … skipped, when he was in school.

He bites his lip, glancing at his son one more time before stepping further away, out of earshot. “It's nothing.”

She gives him her no-nonsense expression, a raised eyebrow and pursed lips. She knows it makes him break.

With a sigh, Eddie rubs his face. “I don't know how to talk about it, tía.”

“Try saying a few words, maybe the rest will follow,” she answers, hiding her own amusement well. She leans against the kitchen counter and studies him. “You can talk to me. I am not some old fashioned vieja.”

“I know,” he says quickly, “it's not that I don't think you'd understand or that I can't talk to you about it. It's just… a very new realization that I can't put into words myself. I don't even understand it yet. It's confusing and…” he sighs again, hiding his face.

Sighing, Eddie rubbed a hand across his brow, hiding his eyes. "If there's something you wanna say to me, Buck," he murmured. "Then please say it. If you swallow it now and someone else swings a gun at us, you may not get another chance." Two times Buck and Eddie face down guns and how Buck deals with it.

Their boxes haven't even been unpacked and Eddie finds out that Buck is looking for a new place to live. He doesn't understand how Buck could have thought Eddie wanted him to leave but he won't be making that mistake again.

Eddie places a cardboard box on top of a stack of two. He smiles at Chris, who sits a few feet away. “That is the last box.” He needs to return the U-Haul truck, but there’s at least one more day on the rental agreement and they could probably use it to move some of the stuff into storage once Buck gets home from his appointment. “Hey, you wanna help me decide on lunch before we start sorting out what stay and what goes?’ “Lewis is having a... party, and he wanted to know if I could come.” Eddie stops and looks at Chris, a smile forming on his lips. “Okay. What time am I dropping you off?” “Um, in 30 minutes maybe? Let me ask.” Eddie moves a few things from the box in front of him in silence, kitchen towels which can go in the linen closet and a few sets of plates. Buck’s are newer and a little nicer so he’ll ask him to see if he just wants to donate everything they don’t use. He walks over to set the box on the dinner table and finds a small pamphlet, Realty by Judy Brooks. He opens it and sees Buck’s writing over the section on financing. He turns it around and sees today’s date is scrawled on the bottom on the pamphlet… was Buck really thinking about moving out? They talked about this. Eddie and Chris were coming back home, that was it, no one needed to move. Eddie pulls out his phone and dials. “Hey. I can’t really talk right now —” “Was your appointment today to look at apartments?” “A house actually. Why?” “Come home, we need to talk.” “Eddie.” “Buck. I'm not doing this over the phone, just leave that appointment, come home. If I’m not here when you pull up, I’m dropping Chris off with Lewis.” He hears Buck’s muffled apology to who Eddie’s going to assume is Judy and the sound of a car door being open and shut. “I don’t know what you want to talk about,” Buck mumbles as the car is started, “but I’m on my way.” Eddie hums, ripping the pamphlet in his hand. “Good. I’ll see you in a bit.”

Posting for the The Buddie Mixtape begins tomorrow! Posting will be open for 2 weeks, with late posting open until 31.12.2025.

For writers, the AO3 collection can be found at The Buddie Mixtape 2025. (If there's an issue with it, someone PLEASE let me know, it's my first collection!)

Rules apply to all submissions and I will be reviewing content before adding it to the collection or reblogging/ sharing on Tumblr. I will attempt to monitor submissions as they come in and a master post will go up when posting closes, and again after late posting closes.

first, I wanted to thank you for organizing this event! this is super awesome and I am so excited to participate 🥰

second, I wanted to share that I put together an apple music version of the playlist! I always feel like I'm the only person that doesn't use spotify, but I still wanted to share it just in case anyone else could use it 🤗

I will be reviewing the song submissions over the next two weeks to ensure they meet submission guidelines. I am aiming to post the completed mixtape on the weekend of October 11-12.

After that, we create!
