VOLUME 2 SPOILERS

There's two key moments in Will's coming out scene where they show Mike reacting.

They make sure to show Mike reacting to him saying he doesn't like girls. Not a group shot. It's focused on Mike, even before it cuts to Jonathan or anyone else.

And they show Mike nodding when Will says he's not afraid anymore. It's similar to when he nodded to what Will was saying when they were sitting on the car in season 4.

I find this significant, even if I'm upset they're dragging Mike's side of it out into the finale. And he still seems very ambiguous in his relationship with El, especially compared to the other couples.

Come on, guys. Do you really think they're ending Will's personal arc like that?

Now, it does bother me that Will referred to Mike as his Tammy, but that's an assumption he's making. It also bothers me that he referred to it as a crush, when nothing about his feelings add up to that. But it would all make sense if it led to something else in the finale.

Will assumes he's been rejected. He thinks it's the way it has to be. Do you really think they'll just end it like that? Some sort of implied confession and assumed rejection?

If it ends up like that, with some stupid epilogue boyfriend and all, I'll be the first in line for torches and pitchforks, but it doesn't make sense to me. We still have over two hours of Stranger Things left. If they were going to end it like that, they'd have done it next week, not now.

They better not end it like this because what about the painting? The avalanche? These set ups better not be a backdrop for queer-kid-discovering-rejection cause that is this decade’s BIGGEST queerbait. Funny how they care about period-accuracy in a show about worlds colliding

Here are some things that don’t make sense in this volume if byler is not endgame:

Mike saying “Friends don’t lie” to El, because we know that boyfriends do

The shots that focus mostly on Mike during the coming out scene

Mike shifting on his seat more then others during the coming out scene

Will’s conversation with Robin about not having the courage to talk to Vickie back then,but then he also doesn’t have the courage to talk to Mike?

Not showing what Vecna made him see

How the hell is he his Tammy if his love for him made him unlock his powers

Not addressing the painting at all

Still no kiss from milkvan

Mike and El still talking about future as a group

Will asking Robin about when did she start dating Vickie,because in that scene he’s HOPEFUL.

Indeed. A lot makes no sense if Will just gets over Mike here and it's the end of it.

Why was Mike so awkward with El at the end of season 3?

Why was Mike so awkward with Will at the beginning of season 4?

Why does Mike treat Will so much better whenever El isn't around?

Why has Mike and El's relationship seemed so ambiguous this season if it was supposedly fixed by the painting lie?

Seriously, why has the painting lie not been brought up?

Why make Will's feelings be about Mike at all if it's just a crush?

Why have him ask for tips from Robin if he's just going to try once and then give up?

Why have his coming out be something he was fucking coerced to do in order for it not to be weaponized against him?

Why have Mike singled out more than once reacting to his coming out speech, including when he says he wants to show Vecna he's not afraid anymore (in a season where Mike introduced Holly and the audience to Mike the Brave)?

Why drag Will's feelings out for five seasons if only to have him do a gay acceptance speed run where he finds a gay mentor, gets advice, tries to flirt, fails, gets more advice, learns to love himself, let's go of his crush, and comes out all in the span of, what, 2-3 days?

I'm not going to lie and say I'm just as hopeful as I was before volume 2, but a hell of a lot will make more sense if this isn't actually the end of Byler.

I feel like Duffers can still find workarounds for these questions to fit their narrative which, based on this interview, is apparently 'character growth'.

But the parallels (Mike–Vickie), the subtext that even the GA has caught onto atp, and the set design, extras, and color-coding, especially in season 4, feels like too much effort for a silly ship. That kind of detail doesn’t just happen accidentally. It also must’ve added to the production cost. None of that makes sense if it’s all meaningless.

And why would they make Lucas say "there are no coincidences" bs? I just don’t understand why they would bait us this way when Byler is the loudest group of fans (again, referring to what they said in an interview). Like... they definitely saw our posts.

Indeed, paralleling Mike to Vickie, if he's meant to be Tammy, makes zero sense. If it was meant to simply highlight that Will was interesting in Mike, then don't parallel Mike to the one Robin actually gets with. All the little things really add up, and, at this point, if Byler does go down, then the Duffers are guilty of intentionally leading us on. They've acknowledged that we were meant to see all the little things and not disregard them.
