I'm angry that I didn't grow up surrounded by traditions. Yes, I know that many things count as traditions, but I mean traditional clothing, food, song & dance, religion/spirituality.

Things like this call to me. I am so in love with the energy and joy and purpose put into honoring and continuing traditions that were passed down for generations.

My parents have very little, if any, connection to their ancestral cultures and it's even worse for me as I'm biracial and adopted. My Jewish mother didn't expose me to her culture/identity beyond Passover and Hanukkah celebrations and my other mother (Irish/British) has zero desire to engage with hers because she didn't grow up eith it, either. I wish to connect to something that draws me back to the ancestors and to the earth, something I feel is lacking in my life as an American.

Sometimes I'm told that I should just "make my own", but that's missing the point. I want to have grown up with it. I want it to be so normalized in my circles to sing, dance, pray, speak in a way that invokes something bigger. I want to reconnect but I'm scared because I'm biracial and because I didn't grow up around it, so it feels closed to me.

I don't know what to do. I am trying to make my own, but it all just feels like theft/appropriation, ao I always give up.
