Ummm hivewings first because theyre my favorite . I never thought that them evolving solely from clearsight made much sense so I decided that their evolution into a tribe was animus assisted. Clearsight would've had a piece of darkstalkers scroll (for?? Some reason but if we dont think too hard about that then we live happily and peacefully) in her book that was used to aid in creating hivewings, along with granting queen's the hivemind ability. I LOVE the hivemind concept but I think the plant is stupid so its animus magic now. Im not sure if they still have the scroll?? I'd imagine not, they mightve lost it or something
Hivewings have a strict matriarchal royalty system! There is only the queen and her sisters! I suppose there could be dukes or something if the sisters choose to marry but I don't think that'd really be classified as "royalty" in their society. There is technically a "king" but his only job is to produce eggs with the queen and die or something, he doesn't have any power. Whenever the queen decides to start the timer to the end of her reign, she will take said king and produce a batch of 9 eggs (one for each hive) (i think thats how many there are i cant remember and im too lazy to check) and select one of them to be the next queen. The chosen egg goes through some kind of royal jelly kind of process I dont quite entirely know what happens and as the queen will inherit the hivemind. As soon as the heirs come of age the old roster of royalty will be booted out and replaced with the new one. I imagine there is a point where the queen has to produce heirs but she can choose at any time before that. The queens are significantly bigger than the regular degular hivewings also. I also think sometimes being queen makes you a little weird . I think sometimes they get the thought in the back of their minds to eat the kings but we dont worry about that too much
Ok regular bees . Males are Significantly smaller than females and maybe tend to have shorter lifespans but probably not by much. They have black eyes and teeth, and weird skinny tongues that are also black usually. Fuzzy, but not really? Its not really soft fuzz its more prickly. Usually they have more scales than fuzz. have Hole Ears like Birds and Reptiles. I personally draw them with more beetle-like nasal horns just to draw a connection between them and beetlewings and how their evolution was kinda rushed so they still have pretty prominent features. They also typically have more nightwing traits (at least according to my own nightwing headcanons) like dark underbellies and more freckled scales about the place.
I have less stuff for silkwings but enough to talk about i think. They also have black eyes and teeth! Their tongues are weird too. Silkwings have 3 hooked claws on each foot and spurs on their back legs! Hivewings also have those I forgot to mention it. They do have nasal horns, but they're filed down or cut off (as well as their claws post-metamorphosis) so they don't use them to attack random hivewings. Troublemakers often have this done to their teeth as well.
I've deducted that being assigned a partner is like a permanent roommate. You are expected to have offspring with whoever you're partnered with but I don't think that'd be something that'd get you arrested if you decided not to in any regular case. Ive also deducted that partners that are chosen to be part of the flamesilk program will always be same-sex partners. These guys in particular do not have any choice whatsoever whether they have offspring or not, as they'll be briefly paired with a flamesilk and then put back with their partners. If the partners are both male, the eggs will be given to them to take care of once theyre laid or however the silkwing egg system works.
I thiiiiiinnnk thats it .I dont have anything for leafwings as of right now as I like these two more but I will eventually! I will get back to you on that
After a spur of inactivity I return with a new brainworm thats actually a very old and ancient brainworm resurfacing after like 9 years
I've started developing a wof arc 3 rewrite because its my favorite arc and its doodoo ass on its own so im fixing it and forcing my ocs into interactions with canon characters

Ok time to yap about #myjess because ive been thinking about them really hard and they make me SAD
I always go back to my spiderman dimension looking at it with joy and whimsy until I look a little closer and remember The Horrors I put there . Jess is such a tragic character to me and I need to talk about it because I don't enough. There is so much happening to them at all times
As a bit (looking back this is NOT a bit sorry guys) of backstory Jesse is a child of divorce . their parents split up when Jess was 12 and they, their older brother ian and younger sister keiran were raised alone by their mother. Jess never really had a great relationship with their mother, she never really fully understood jess and they felt like there was a wall between them. Their mother is also homophobic/transphobic and wasn't too keen at the idea her daughter might not actually be her daughter. She was never abusive about it or anything of the like, though it was clear she didn't approve and that really put a wedge in their relationship. It was more of a "yeah ok whatever you say" and then continuing to misgender them. Jess has NOT told her that they are ALSO a lesbian they have kept that information locked away from her. Because of this jess developed a MUCH stronger relationship with their siblings, especially ian. Those two were absolutely inseparable, though when Ian got a job as a cop, they obviously had to spend less time together. Their siblings are/were much more accepting of them .
This eventually lead up to when jess got bit at 20 . They were wandering an abandoned alchemax facility with what they assumed was an old lab when they got bit by the spider. They were NOT supposed to be there, and were only there because they were growing suspicious of some activity that was happening there. They brushed off the spider bite, but were caught off guard and chased out by some mysterious figure (this was carmen aka the prowler but they weren't aware of that yet). They tell ian about this and he says they've been investigating that place for a while and nothings come up to his knowledge, but he'll let someone know. They're a little annoyed about that but they let it slide because they know its not his fault
Jess then goes through the standard spiderman stuff . discovering their new powers and wondering what the hell is going on. They kind of end up feeling liberated in a way?? They get kind of excited about it and think to themselves that they could actually deal with the shady alchemax stuff on their own with this kind of power. Jess is a big tech guy so they quickly whip up a shitty little cat costume and end up making "webshooters" which are just little grappling hooks basically that come out of their wrists. They still have those its just a lot more refined than when they were 20 LOL
They end up intervening with a couple petty crimes and working their way up to saving people and stuff like that (during this time they do start thinking about the moral weight of rescuing people and like. Who they can and cant save but up to this point theyre not thinking too hard about it). They get a couple mentions in the news and such and have to keep their mouth shut about it otherwise ian would absolutely GET them. They do run into ian a couple times as spiderman and have to awkwardly brush him off while they make a hasty break for it. Ian gets a little suspicious with this whole superhero thing and how jess acts at home but brushes it off.
Eventually they run into the mysterious figure that chased them out of the old alchemax building again, except this time with some bird and a FUCKED up green lady. They're saying something about trying to catch a runaway experiment and how this is the last straw with mr fisk and if they fuck this up then the green lady is cooked for good. Jess had known alchemax had always been a little shady, but this was taking the cake. They needed to tell ian. The issue was they needed to get out of there without being noticed . Which did not work and they end up getting chased out again. Luckily (or unluckily) the pursuit is cut off by the runaway experiment, which sends the whole street into chaos. Jess ends up locking in and trying to save as many people as possible until the police show up. The police DO show up and ian is there!! Woo yay!!!
UNFORTUNATELY though everything turns to absolute shit very quickly and the AWFUL building stability of the area combined with the big fucked up beast + green lady and co., a building collapses onto the street. There are multiple people under it, and while jess swoops in to rescue as many people as possible from being crushed, so does ian. They both get the people out, but ian doesnt get out of the way in time. Jess can only watch as the figure of their brother is engulfed by the falling building.
As the dust and rubble settles and chaos continues in the background, all jess can do is stand there in shock. He made it out, didn't he? They saw him get out, surely they did, right? They slowly stumble over to the rubble, their walk turns to a run and they start tearing away at chunks of metal and concrete. They dig him out and pull him out of the debris, praying, begging him to be fine. By some miracle, he was still alive. He took one look at this spiderman, in his last moments realizing just how familiar to him they actually are. He reassures jess that everything is going to be fine, and that they're doing good. Jess has to watch in horror as their brother dies in their arms. They couldn't believe it. In fact, they sat there in disbelief for what felt like forever, trying to convince themselves that nothing happened. Upon being approached by a bunch of officers, jess panicked and ran.
Jess leaves all the chaos behind and heads straight home, they barrel in through the window covered in blood and bruises. No one is home, they head to their room and cry. The first one to find them is actually their younger sister. Jess gets real tense because theyre still in the whole spider getup but keiran is like "bro are you ok" and jess .doesnt actually say that much because theyre not about to traumadump on a 14 year old but they make it very clear they are Not Ok. Keiran is dimeknowledgable enough to know Not to tell their mother about this though does suggest it. Jess obviously tells her not to and she does not
Jess and keiran kinda hang out for the rest of the night to calm down and jess is OVERWHELMED by guilt they are absolutely sitting in it. Not just because they (in their own eyes) killed their brother, but because they just left the scene and left everyone to die. The authorities end up wrapping up the whole situation but not without several casualties, ian included.
The next day they all officially find out ian is dead. Jess takes a LONG break from being spiderman, and ends up getting super close to keiran. They both have to deal with keeping the spiderman secret so they also bonded over that. Jess also got really worried and protective of Keiran.
Eventually after a grieving period jess ends up going "ok. you need to lock the FUCK in and push down all your evil negative thoughts because this sort of thing WILL happen again and more people will die if you are not there to save them." And they end up forcing themselves to take up the role again
When they move out into a new apartment they do lock in and start frantically upgrading their gear and stuff and get back out on the field. They do NOT allow themselves time to fully process this they are back on the job for A WHOOOLE YEAR until they meet their new roommate cameron and then they CONTINUE. FOR ANOTHER YEAR AND THEYRE STILL GOING
um backstory over what I ACTUALLY WANTED TP TALK ABOUT was JUST how much this guy has on their plate
Jess has to juggle a part time job on TOP of online classes for college on TOP of taking care of two cats on TOP of IMMEASURABLE grief and guilt over the passing of their brother and innocent civilians on TOP of being worried sick constantly for the safety of their younger sister on TOP of being hunted down by several supervillains and potentially the cops ON TOP OF BEING SPIDERMAN

Additionally at some point in the story they do get captured by alchemax and the Last thing they see before they get knocked out is the prowler running towards keiran. They think she killed her for like 95% of their time in alchemax. For SEVERAL weeks they were ALSO living with the grief of being unable to save their sibling AGAIN. Luckily carmen let her get away but that SUCKS bro

I think the top two would conveniently both be spiderverse ocs. Most feral would be Octavius and I would pick Jess as the least feral but I think I would be lying so their roommate Cameron will be put in the top spot instead.
I think if Octavius wasn't an Evil Scientist then she and Cameron might actually get along quite well . Octavius when shes not being evil is just a geek who likes fish and bugs and I think Cameron would fw that . Seeing that she is an evil scientist and is actively hunting down his roommate, however, leads me to believe he would not be a big fan of Octavius
Octavius would probably like Cameron either way .shes a big fan of just Normal Ass People. The most average joe ever thats her guy she fucks with that
