Why do they dress like that?
Those condemned by the Spanish Inquisition, founded by the Catholic Monarchs in the 15th century to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in their territories, were required to wear a capirote or coroza and a small, coarse cloth tunic called a "sambenito" to identify them and embarrass them during the autos-da-fé. The Inquisition gave them the opportunity to abjure their sins and proclaim their adherence to the Catholic faith. Those who did so, the "penitents," were granted the grace of being strangled before being burned. Those condemned to death who did not repent of their sins were cremated alive.
The penitential brotherhoods adopted this capirote, which, due to its shape, also symbolized the attempt to get closer to God, having seen him in those condemned penitents.
By the 17th century, most Spanish brotherhoods were already using this cone, giving a different look to the penitents, who by then were already beginning to be called Nazarenes.
Each brotherhood adopted a color.
Many chose purple, which was the penitential color; but some chose red, for its sacramental symbolism; others green, for the cult of the True Cross; and still others kept the white or adopted black, which became fashionable in the late 18th century.

I'm making one post about the matter. We were basically creatively mugged and rather than explaining the entire shebang, both sides of it, are outlined in the post below.
I believe in artistic integrity. If you're inspired by other people's art, own it. Do not copy designs, concepts, ideas, AUs or original. Support your fellow artists .Its not copyright culture to be respectful— to have integrity as a creator. One thing I know I have enjoyed in this fandom is all the art, writing and more that people have offered. It's been fantastic and I cant wait for the third avatar movie to bring even more of it.
There will always be some overlap and coincidence. This aint that. This was deliberate and the followup response from the individuals in question being fingered for doing what they did has been slander, wild accusations of various natures and classic DARVO.

I will say plainly that absolutely no one from our end has sent any hatemail or threats and we also don't want anyone doing that on our behalf. We literally said what we needed to out in the open, shook our heads and got back to our jobs, commissions, planning and collaborating.

I got accused of stealing the design form Ava from other artists, coz she has a white suit on and red curls. I proofed afterwards with a statement that she exsisted LONG before I joined the Avatar fandorm. But they don't stop talking openly about my name in bad manners, dragging my name to the mud. So here is my open statement I posted on bluesky already:
Just want to say: I see you, and I see your bullying behavior towards me. How you speak about me being evil while you call me a copycat and an entitled European. You step on me even though I just PROVED that my OC is not stolen. You never stop, even a person is already on the ground. You are evil.
I'm not going to stop drawing a character in a white Lab coat just because these people don't like it. I can only advise you: if you see people publicly trashing other people, keep your distance from them. Don't support bullying.
I didn't do anything wrong by having my character wear a white suit in a sci-fi franchise. It's a common trope in sci-fi, just like Ghost in the Cell and Alita: Battle Angel—just examples. Pinterest is full of such examples.
So why shouldn't I have a character with a white suit? It's obvious in a sci-fi movie. Why can't my character have red curls to look like me? Is that forbidden now, too? Am I no longer allowed to have red curls?
Ava is a cloned human with a cybernetic spine. She doesn't even have a kuru. She's a test subject and won't have much to do with the suit once she's out of the lab. One of the core aspects of Avatar is the aspect of artificial bodies, so its also not really something only one group of people can claim, as their "IP".
I hate to openly discuss this and address it. But I won't let the perpetrators continue to bully me. They'll just continue to show their true color by continuing to publicly drag my name through the mud.
I suggest we just leave each other alone from now on. I'm working on my sick note, and she's working on hers. You two should just start behaving like adults again, not like 10-year-old elementary school bullies.

I don't know what else to say, except that I want you to stop, because I'm not going to stop drawing Ava. Just leave me alone to enjoy myself. I've been warned by so many people independently of these people, and I always form my own opinion.
But they've clearly shown me that it's true: they systematically exclude people, publicly drag their names through the mud, and bully them. This has to stop. I don't want anything more.
And because my name was also publicly dropped, I'm now also publicly speaking out names: It's about the bullies: Celbizarro, kingsevil, hypodriive, mapiezaddy, sabasquatch I could drop more names, but I'll leave it at this point.
These people are together on an Avatar AU Discord and are united against one person. It's an echo chamber of bullies, and I want people to understand that. I'm not going anywhere. I'm peaceful and just drawing a red-haired woman in a white suit. Inspired by many sci-fi universes out there.
People need to understand that similar concepts that aren't even that original, like a simple white suit in a sci-fi universe, red curls, or a clone in an Avatar universe, don't necessarily mean that anything was stolen. No attempt was ever made to clarify this with me privately or to ask about it.
Why do people embrace my idea of painting cloned creatures and humans? Quite simply, because it seems to have been forbidden by a certain group, and you can't forbid something so simple. It's meant to prove a point.
side note: I didn't encourage anyone to be inspired by my AU. These are just people who support my idea, and I'm not saying it's unique, but I'm not going around accusing everyone of stealing it either.

I joyined the Avatar fandom 10 month ago on tumblr and bluesky btw (my bluesky acc is older than that, but I was not active or part if the fandom.)
The thing is, I just want my peace and I want you guys see this before you hear their bully words from somewhere. I want you to know my side. I never wanted to do harm or have a fight. I am a chronic ill person and this blog is my safe space.

I blocked all these people above and just want them to let me alone. They don't need to like me, but they should stop dragging names from others through dirt. Thats the worst behavior and they call ME evil and I am just trying to defend myself and try to have fun. Nothing more than that.

I want to speak up about something important, not just for the person suffering in the center of this, but for all of us who love creating and engaging with art and writing. It’s deeply troubling to see an artist harassed simply for using long-established sci-fi design tropes, like a white suit or a cybernetic spine, especially since she was just having a good time in her own page without bothering anyone. These concepts are not proprietary elements. They’re part of a wide, rich creative language shared across decades of storytelling, from Ghost in the Shell to Alita, Mass Effect, The Matrix, and countless others. Suggesting someone "stole" an idea based on this kind of common imagery is not only unfair, it’s actively harmful to the spirit of artistic creation.
Let’s be clear, tropes like white futuristic suits, cybernetics, or cloning are not original concepts (much less the texture or color of a character's hair), they are building blocks. Policing who can use them and accusing others of theft over vague similarities only serves to create fear, exclusion, and hostility. This kind of gatekeeping has real consequences. It's exhausting and emotionally devastating for creators, especially for people who already have to deal with real life struggles. Turning this into a battleground over who’s "allowed" to have fun with an idea or a character concept is cruel. This artist provided receipts, showed that her character predates her joining the fandom, and yet the harassment continues. That’s not about plagiarism, it’s about control, and it needs to stop.
These spaces should be a place for creative freedom, connection, and play. When we start acting like gatekeepers of tropes or aesthetics, we lose sight of what makes these communities special. It's okay to share similar ideas. It’s okay to be inspired. It’s not okay to weaponize vague resemblance into public shaming campaigns.
As someone who’s been in this fandom for far longer, I’d like to share my thoughts.
I’ve witnessed every wave of drama, every original concept, and every kind of interaction this fandom has to offer—which is why I believe I’ve earned the right to speak up about this situation.
There’s a huge difference between being inspired by another artist you admire… or in this case, one you clearly resent.
But straight-up stealing from someone, and then playing dumb about it? That’s an entirely different story.
I understand @chelbizzaro’s frustration. She began working on Simulacra’s AU back in late 2022/early 2023. While I’m not directly involved in that project, I’ve been quietly observing its growth—the interactions, the concepts, the development.
I remember when @knarme-art and @space-blue were part of that AU. Their involvement was very public.
These are some of the posts that were made of Space-blue, it seems that Knarme erased any trace of their participation of the AU, but I do remember how they were active on it.
Eventually, they had a falling out with Chel—for reasons that remain unclear.
But as the saying goes: “people are saying…”—and what people are saying is that these individuals have a tendency to harass smaller accounts and stir up drama. I don’t know how true that is—but honestly? I wouldn’t be surprised.
It’s not far-fetched to think that these two took everything they’d knew of Simulacra, and decided to create their own "version" adding @signfromeywa to this "OH new and completely original AU" because of her clout/numbers

Let’s be real—it’s not hard to tweak a design, change a color, swap a mood, remix a vibe.
It's something that happened, happens and it will keep happening in popular media...
But they didn’t even bother hiding this plagiarism.
Because, it feels...
As if someone...
Is trying to convey something.
Which tells me: this wasn’t an accident.
This wasn’t “omg guys I’m just revamping my OC 🥺”
This was calculated, this was completely intentional.
And all of us who have been here long and are not biased by any side can clearly see that.
Wasn't Miles shipped with another OC? A Metkayina OC? @signfromeywa ? Why the sudden change of heart? In less than a month.
Sure, sure, the outfits, the exoskeleton, it all is a coincidence... the ship? Also a coincidence. That specific character of the franchise, the poses, the moods and vibes, continues to be all a coincidence.
"Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action."
You could’ve changed anything. Even something tiny. A streak of color, a different silhouette. But instead, it was copy-paste. Why? Because you wanted it to be obvious. You wanted to make a statement:
“I can do whatever I want with zero consequences. I can stomp on whoever I want, and my great amount of followers and mutuals with clout will defend me anyway.”
And you had the perfect character that would act like a scapegoat when you were called out. As always, because you're the victim here. Not the people you're stalking and stealing from.
So here’s my conclusion:
For the ones defending this behavior: If you choose to defend the indefensible, that’s on your conscience.
But let’s call it what it is: grown adults, pushing 30, behaving like high school bullies over fictional characters. It’s sad. It’s petty. And it’s beneath you—or at least it should be. Only someone with a very miserable, pitiful life would invest this much energy and time in trying to drag others down to their level.
From where I’m standing, it looks like @knarme-stray and @space-blue are simply using @signfromeywa as their pawn by victimizing herself and villainizing people that are rightfully upset because their creations are getting stolen. With what purpose? Make them look bad? Ruin their reputation? How low.
When you give the wrong people power and attention, they will always have a herd that applaud, defend and justify their behavior—even when it’s clearly wrong to everyone else. And that’s the dangerous part. Not just the theft, but the people enabling it with silence, cowardice, or clout-chasing loyalty.
But hey, at the end of the day… that’s what colonizers do, isn’t it?
They take from others. They rename. And they claim it as their own. It’s an irrational behavior, or maybe it’s rational for people that don’t have anything they can call their own.
Something that the Avatar franchise criticizes, Ironically.

It started on the first of spring,
The gifts.
She was suddenly getting gifts everyday, and while she enjoyed them, not one single one had a calling card from who was giving her all these gifts.
The first day had been disastrous.
Melo was in such a hurry to leave and make it to the markets when she ran out of her Den house she tripped and stumbled down the hill with a startled noise. Landing Harshly on her rump as she coughed up petals to see a crumbled and ruined bouquet of flowers.
She had felt so horrible when she realized she ruined what she could have imagined to be such a nice gift of flowers.
Since then she has been more alert on checking her front door for gifts, and whoever was giving her these things had moved them to the side, now no longer leaving them in her walking path.
She receives
Sweet rose perfumes,
New heeled boots.
Earrings,
A nail polish set,
sketch books had surprised her,
things someone who had to know her got.
It made her nose twitch as she grabbed today's gift, a luxurious basket of chocolates and sweets. There was even a bottle of champagne that seemed to throw her off as she searched it for a card and to her surprise there was one.
Please come to the wild meadows this evening today.

She felt her tail twitch and her nose moving as she felt a small smile forming on her face as she carried the basket into her den house setting it on her coffee table rereading the card over and over with a happy laugh.
She doesn't know when she last had someone go this far to woo her for the big day of hearts, and she felt giddy that someone was and had plans for her.
It would be far better than her spending it alone or going out for the night with friends.
She hoped the person who did so much effort was as charming looking as they were thoughtful.
She spent the day in the markets, looking for a nice yet classy dress to match the new heels she was gifted but had not had a chance to wear yet.
She went with a light pastel pink dress pairing it with the new red earrings she received as one of the many gifts and with a red waist belt with a heart buckle.
When she returned home she immediately took to taking a shower and started to get ready for the surprising evening.
He was panicking, Zipping and zooming through the meadow pestering his friends.
“Tails did you-”
“Yes Sonic.” The fox would huff, rolling his eyes, as Sonic would nuggie into his head fur before zipping off to bother Knuckles who was in the proceeds of pounding out a fire pit..
“It has to be a-”
“Heart, yes I got it the first six times.”
“Gotcha, Just making sure I know!” Sonic sputtered as he moved to Amy. We were busy setting up the picnic area as she slid to a stop to open his mouth. Amy shot him a glare.
“Sonic, if you say one thing to micromanage me, I will put you six feet into the ground and steal Melo for a girls night.”
The thought of it made him feel nervous as he let out a laugh taking a set away from the pink hedgehog.
“No no I wasn't I wasn't. It looks great.” He quickly replied, watching Amy as she sighed and moved to stand up brushing her hands as she turned to look at him, her hands on her hips.
“You should go figure out what you're going to say to her instead of bothering us to help you!” She scolded him but his eyes widened as he realized how he didnt want to just wing his confession before nodding.
“Yes you're right And…I'll be back.” He muttered before zooming off to have a place to think, anxiety creeping up to him making his Quills flare up and feet tap against the ground as he tried to figure out what to even say.
Asking out a girl shouldn't be this hard.
Yet the churning of his stomach and the pounding of his heart made him feel like his life was in danger.
How he confessed to her was important.
It had to be perfect.
It had to be passionate and personal.
Which is why it led him to Shadows home and nearly breaking into it regardless if it would cause him and Shadow to fight.
and it did.
“What the hell do you want?” Shadow had snarled, making Sonic smirk as he avoided a blow to the head.
it could have easily taken it clean off.
“You know Spanish, Teach me how to say-”
“Bold of you to assume I teach you a thing.”
Sonic knew he was gonna resist it was why he grinned, a cockily smile that he had avoided a fist coming towards .
“Remember that time when you-”
“What do you want to learn, dimwit?”
Evening came so fast, And he was lucky he was one of the fastest people around as he quickly ran showered and got back to the meadows in time for Amy to tie a bowtie around his neck, and Knuckles begrudgingly slamming a bouquet of roses into his chest.
“If you fail Hedgehog I will knock your head loose for making me do all this for nothing.” Knuckles glowered as he left the meadows.
“Uh yea…Right…” Sonic muttered, the churning of his stomach growing and his quills flexing more,
Rejection.
He hadn't thought about that necessarily.
And It was as if Amy sensed his thoughts as she held his arm staring at him until he looked over at her.
“Just be yourself, This is Melo, she wouldn't want you any other way.” Amy assured with a smile which made him sigh and nod a smile forming on his lips.
“Thanks Ams.” He spoke as he watched her leave the meadow, a shaky sigh came from him as he sat near the picnic area taking in all the hard work his friends did to do all of this for him. The gratefulness he felt was high as he allowed himself to Relax.
Either way, the dinner would be good.
Melo felt anxious as she nervously though excitedly headed to the wildflower meadows.
The sun was starting to set, painting the skies in hues of pinks, reds and purples.
What a beautiful setting for such a day.
She could smell the sweet flowers and fresh grass before she saw them and in the distance of the meadow she could see a clearing in the flowers that make her chest flutter as she started down a path cleared through the flowers, fairy lights on the side lighting up the pathway until she could excitedly get to the middle of the clearing.
Her eyes widening and heart melting at the sight of a picnic set up, a fire going brightly in a heart shaped fire pit filled with red and pink stones.
Bundles of wild flowers in vases at the four corners of the picnic blanket and food set out with two flutes of pink sparkling wine. Chocolate strawberries, heart Grapes and cheese set up, small tea sandwiches and cookies.
Fairy lights woven through the clearing near the flowers.
It was absolutely breathtaking.
The only thing she didn't see was the person she was supposed to meet.

A soft noise behind her had her turn around to be suprised by the heroic speedrunner himself.
“Sonic?” Melo asked surprise in her tone and warmth spreading from her chest, Seeing her crush which she always thought was one sided and silly in front of her nervously holding a bouquet of roses and a crooked bowtie as he looked like he was about to vanish in a blink of an eye looking at her was not on her list of what ifs.
"Melo desee….Desede que te conocí…” Sweat seemed to drip down his furred face as a look of panic swept through his green eyes.
Her ears twitched as she subconsciously leaned forward, her nose twitching as she gave him her full attention, slight amusement forming her eyes as she watched as he very quietly muttered over the pronunciations.
"Realme. .Realmente te admiro y……..and…”
He began to shift on his feet as he tried hard to remember all what he made shadow teached him looking up at her and then quickly back down to the roses in his hands that were shaking.
Everytime he looked up at her, he forgot what he was going to say.

“I…….fuck…hold on let me…” He muttered and it caused her to giggle as she moved to him making him look at her nervously, a wreck of a smile forming on his face as she moved her hand to his arms
She looked like heaven with the sky behind her.
“I like you too Sonic.” She spoke softly to him , making him look as if was ready to melt.
“Yea??” He said as he looked at her with melting eyes making her smile and nod.
“Those for me?” She teased him as she looked at the nearly snapped roses, seeming to put the focus back into him as he handed them to her a goofy look on his face.
“Yea….I'll have to get you new ones..”
“Maybe after dinner?”
“Yea.”
The evening went wonderfully. Both sat at each other's sides laughing and going over old tales of their times working with each other, Carefully popping strawberries into others mouths and sipping on the sparkling wine.
“What were you trying to say?” Melo asked him after the nerves were gone from him and he was bright with his smiles and laughter. She watched as he flushed.
“Ever since I met you and got to know you I found myself admiring you and wanting to spend time with you. I wanted to ask if you would honor me to be your boyfriend.”
And it was like the sun had risen again as he got to watch the smile that grew on her face to her eyes as they shined in the fires light.
“You may be honored.”
He felt a rush through him and he moved towards her in a pace, a soft peek of the lips before jerking back, the flush panic he had as he went to open his mouth to apologize, silenced as hers found his own.
He melted into her, his hands finding hers and for once it was like he finally slowed down.
