in my experience the more time you spend on a work of art and the deeper you dig into its every detail the more you end up appreciating it and the better it gets to you. this is why i don't (and probably will never) use streaming services. when every song is competing to try to hook your attention as quickly as possible knowing that failure is only one single button press away and when you can easily just skip past everything that doesn't hook you immediately it robs you of the ability to sit with something that doesn't quite hook you at first and let it do what it has to do until you understand and you get a better understanding of the individual song/album, music as a whole, and yourself. it's just been a way more emotionally fulfilling way to experience music for me. maybe music is at its best by default, but maybe that default is not the very first listen that you skip 5 seconds in because it didn't immediately start with a catchy chorus
