@burnedtoobright
going over to my minimalist girlfriend’s house and she apologizes profusely for the mess and there’s just a single perfect, fresh pea on the floor of her living room

jesus christ. I Am Under Fucking Attack
World Heritage Post
i deserve a medal for this post. not because i was particularly funny but because i survived an onslaught of nearly one hundred gimmick blogs in the wake of this post popping off, and the fact that i didn’t try to track any of them down and snuff them out with my bare hands is a testament to my immeasurable strength and should be rewarded. at one point i had “the official letter h” add on to this post. you wanna know that blog’s gimmick? the really funny and original and worthwhile gimmick the official letter h blog had? yep you guessed it they just gave me the god damned letter H and then fucked off. only jesus knows the suffering i endured over that harsh winter, and he wept for me
Not every story is about seeing yourself in it. Sometimes it’s about learning to see other people too.
@tearyeyedcat this was beautifully written, thank you for adding it!
Another excuse for me to post Head Writer of ATLA Aaron Ehasz’s great characters board:
CHARACTERS SHOULD BE: FALSE GODS
I'm sorry.???

stuff happening on r/discoelysium
Still holding on to light.
As with every oil lamp I make, I do a series of burns with different wicks to make sure that they produce a reasonably long, steady burn. Because of the way this lamp is constructed (with a small, difficult to access reservoir) there's a steel pin that keeps the wick from accidentally sliding into the lamp, and oil is added with a syringe under the hood. Worth it for this flame though! It'll burn at this level for about an hour--shorter than many of my lamps, but that's the tradeoff for a pose like this.
I think about this moment a lot
okay if you’re like “what is TAZ” this is UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this is good
Something that I get chills about is the fact that the oldest story told made by the oldest civilization opens with "In those days, in those distant days, in those ancient nights."
This confirms that there is a civilization older than the Sumerians that we have yet to find
Some people get existential dread from this
Me? I think it's fucking awesome it shows just how much of this world we have yet to discover and that is just fascinating
@makaeru peer review cos this made me check when the Sumerians happened and I forget how recent history is for every other continent. 7000 - 8000 years ago just isn't that long when you're in Australia, and the amount of detailed history we have access to here is wonderful and should be recognised more internationally
Source (non Aboriginal)
And a quote I picked out from a longer interview with an Aboriginal local elder about the area where he touched on the history
Source (the rest of the interview is really interesting and all transcribed, have a look if you're curious)
This is part of my Ancient Civilizations class that I teach, which does a whole week about Australia and the Torres Strait Islands because I was sick of never seeing them represented in USAmerican history contexts. With the help of @micewithknives and @acearchaeologist I've learned so many incredible things about Australia's past and it's been incredibly rewarding to share them with students.
My favorite fact about Aboriginal oral history is the fact that we pretty recently discovered that the Aboriginal myth of the 7 Sisters, an origin story for the Pleiades star cluster, accurately reflects a point TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO when two stars in the constellation got close enough together to no longer be distinguishable by the naked eye.
The story? 6 sisters running from something that took their 7th sister.
as a gilgar gunditj woman, i was not expecting to see my culture on my dash.
thank you for spreading our words and treating our culture with respect.
Enchanted Forest Crystal Sale
All the crystals are now posted, and you can find them all here!
This sale was such a joy to put together, and I really hope you all loved what I picked out this time 💜
On this day, 16 June 1976, school students in Soweto, South Africa, who were boycotting class to protest against the use of Afrikaans, took to the streets. After police opened fire on the crowd, rioting quickly spread across the country, and the resulting uprising helped spur on the anti-apartheid struggle. Two years prior, the government had made Afrikaans mandatory in schools alongside English, but, while it was widely spoken by white settlers, especially of Dutch heritage, almost no Black South Africans knew the language. Organising against its imposition began almost immediately and developed in the run-up to the Soweto riots. 10 days of subsequent protests left at least 174 Black Africans and two whites dead, most killed by security forces. Some sources estimate up to 700 deaths, in addition to at least 1,000 people wounded and over 1,000 others arrested. This is one of hundreds of stories featured in our book, Working Class History: Everyday Acts of Resistance & Rebellion, available with global shipping: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/working-class-history-everyday-acts-resistance-rebellion-book

today's reason I fucking love the open source community: Ageless Linux, a brand new Debian-based operating system specifically designed to break the law by giving children access to computers that explicitly refuse to track their age.
reblog this post to help a child break the law
sorry for how I acted when there were multiple noises happening at the same time
