I know I keep reblogging posts about this, but Nepal is in serious need of help.

3,700 people are already confirmed dead and they are still in search and rescue phase.  They are still unable to reach many remote areas and don’t even know the status of whole villages.

Tens of climbers and sherpas are still stranded on Makalu, Dhaulagiri, and Everest.  Frequent aftershocks make descending too risky and heli evacuation is needed.  22 people are dead and there are still more than 200 people missing in Everest base camp where the largest avalanche hit.

They are still experiencing large aftershocks which are expected to continue for the next month. There was a M-6.7 aftershock today.  People in Kathmandu have said aftershocks are occurring every 5 minutes, many of them in mid-M-4 range.  Many people are scared to go in what buildings remain and are living in tents.

This is the start of the monsoon season, which has difficulties of its own.  Among other things, monsoon rains cause landsliding and slopes are now particularly unstable.  Existing landslides may dam water which then releases catastrophically.  Landslide dams need to be torn down in advance to prevent this but that requires resources they do not currently have.

Water and food supplies are very low.  They are worried in Kathmandu that supplies will run out by end of week.  Many areas do not have access to water and some have resorted to drinking pool water.  Disease outbreak is a very real concern.  Foreigners are unable to get out of the country to alleviate the need for supplies.

Nepal is on the UN list of poorest countries in the world. Short term recovery will require a lot of aid, but long term will also.  Tourism is a large source of the country’s income; 3 of the country’s 4 world heritage sites have been destroyed and it looks like this year’s outdoor expeditions will be largely shut down.  Many believe fewer people will visit for outdoor pursuits in the coming years.

Disturbing video shows police laughing and fist-bumping after beating a suspect

Video has emerged appearing to show Inkster, Michigan, police officers laughing and mocking the victim of a beating they had administered to an unarmed black man. The video captures officers in the police station as they exchanged fist bumps and laughs while the man they arrested sat a few feet away, bloodied and beaten. Thankfully, the cops may have to face the music.

My parents live in this town and the city legally can’t tear the tree down to build or anything because the tree has its own legal rights and they can’t do anything about it.

I love this story because this guy in the early 1800’s had so many great childhood memories of this tree and wanted to make sure it was protected no matter what. So he deeded the ownership of the tree to itself and everyone just went with it.

Then in 1942 this intense windstorm came and knocked the tree over. And people were bummed. But someone had saved an acorn from the original tree, so they planted that and now Son of the Tree That Owns Itself is over 50 feet tall.

And since this new tree is technically the offspring of the original tree it’s considered to have legally inherited the plot of land it’s inhabiting.

Two generations of trees owning land is amazing and if you don’t think this is the coolest thing get right out of my face.

There’s another alternative and his name is Bernie Sanders.

Sanders is a self proclaimed socialist who is one of the two independent senators in the nation.

He’d be the first jewish president.

His platform includes

Raising minimum wage Equal pay for women Reversing climate change Helping workers Taking on Wall Street corruption Making College affordable for all Healthcare for all

He has been fighting for lgbtqiap+ rights since the 90’s He was against the invasion of Iraq in 2002 He’s been a big supporter of campaign finance reform He’s committed to improving veterans healthcare and lives after coming home He’s written a bill to help HIV+ patients afford healthcare He’s voted to punish crimes in alternative rehabilitative ways He’s been an advocate for bettering public school education. He’s pro-gun control

He’s just a good guy who will put the American people above profits. The issue is he’s not even close to as wealthy as Hillary so he hasn’t got a chance unless the people support him.

Bernie Sanders is an Indipendent but he is running as a Democrat, which is great news!! If he were running against Hillary in the general election, he would have split the left-wing vote and ensured a win for the Republicans. This way we can get Hillary out of the running in the primaries!!

This reminds me of how a friend of mine was abused by the mother of his child. She was mentally unstable and used to berate him constantly and would smack him in the head all the time. It really pissed me off. Then one night she threw hot coffee in his face and tried to stab him with a screwdriver. The cops hauled him off to jail because she made up a sob story that painted herself as the victim.  Once he left her, he stayed with me and it was a nightmare. She stalked him and me. She would drive by my house obsessively at all hours of the day and night (her muffler made a weird sound so I know it was her). She started showing up at my job, showing up at the places I frequented around town, and filling up my voicemail with dead air. The cops were no help. One day she got bold enough to talk her way into my home by conning my elderly grandmother, whom I was taking care of, while I was out. She went in my room and went through my stuff (creepy), then found him napping on the couch and attacked him. My grandmother witnessed the whole thing. He grabbed her by the arms, forced her out the front door, and locked it. The cops were called again. They said they’d go and ‘talk’ to her.

The next day we were watching a movie and there was a knock at the door. The police had come to arrest him. She filed a complaint against him and shown off some bruises on her arms from the altercation that she swore were completely unprovoked. My grandmother saw the whole thing since she was in the living room too and testified on his behalf. He still ended up serving jail time. No one takes male domestic violence victims seriously. They only see males as perpetrators.
